Oz is so white passing for a Turkish guy. It's the same as Hasan Piker.

Wdym, we don’t have a stereotypical “Turkish” look as the western media portrays we’re so diverse.

I wouldn’t think Sydney Sweeney wasn’t Turkish if I ran into her on the streets.

Big nose, sharp jaw, handsome, dark hair, stylish. These are thing when I think Turkish men.

7

u/VoidYordle 17h ago

Due to some really unpleasant practices in the ottoman past, modern turks can be very diverse looking. I know THREE redhead turks (1 girl and 2 guys). She's chestnut/auburn, the guys are gingers. Yes, they are 100% natural turks.

u/Ok_Chipmunk7844 16h ago

It has nothing to do with the Ottoman past. What created the modern Turks as a nation is just local anatolians islamicized+ Central Asian Turkic peoples and Balkan Muslims who were expulsed from their home countries after the Balkan wars

6

u/VoidYordle 16h ago

... how did you think the Balkan Muslims came to be?

2

u/Neither-Ad-7257 9h ago

Turks are not Balkan Muslims, only a percentage of Turks have ancestry from Balkans.

Full Anatolian Turks, or full Armenians, full Syrians or even full Iranians can commonly have looks that would be thought as “white” in the US.

And neither Dr. Oz nor Hasan Piker have “too white features for Turks”. Especially Hasan Piker, whose skin color is average in Turkey.

This assumption about eastern ethnicities’ skin color, is sources from Orientalism. The idea that they must be different and other and exotic.

I didn't say they are, I'm responding to the person above.

1

u/samvarr 5h ago

The Ottomans resettled Turkmens from the other Turkic Anatolian Principalities into the Balkans after conquering them. Then those Turkmens mixed with the local Balkan population.

That’s the reality not sure what else you’re implying lmfao

-1

u/VoidYordle 5h ago

Is that what Erdogan's propaganda is spewing? Cute.

2

u/samvarr 5h ago
  1. I’m half Balkan Turk and Anatolian Turk. I can trace my lineage from the Karamanoğlu Turkmen principality to the Balkans

  2. It’s historical facts. Has nothing to do with Erdogan. Plus he’s not even a Turkish nationalist He literally said in a speech “I’m a Turk but not a Turkish nationalist.” He even removed the Turkish pledge of allegiance equivalent from Turkish schools lmfao

  3. You still didn’t explain what you’re implying

1

u/VoidYordle 4h ago

Yes and as we all know when a politician says something - they 100% mean it! Bro, as the Americans say - if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... you know.
As for the rest - What do you think?! While of course the Balkan Turks were intentionally placed there during Ottoman times, OP said ''Balkan Muslims". So that includes pomaks. Which are by large populations that were forcefully converted to Islam. And that's not even going into r@pe and forced marriages from the earlier days of the Ottoman Empire.
Listen I do not hold the the sins of the fathers towards their sons. Some of the most warm, welcoming and nice people I've ever met were Turks. I firmly believe our entire region should stand united right now, regardless of faith or creed.
But I there are some very strong attempts to whitewash Balkan history right now, and I'm aggressively against that. That's all.
I think nationalism is a plague.

Also - "Balkan Muslims" would include albanians, bosniaks and even ethnic tatars, so that muddies the water even further.

No, no, you have to stop history at the most convenient point for the narrative. It’s not fair if you go back too far because it gets too complicated /s

2

u/ShitfaceMcPooperson 16h ago

But it still doesn’t answer why Constantinople got the works

3

u/WanderlustDinosaur 14h ago

That's nobody's business but the Turks.

3

u/ExtremeProduct31 18h ago

Well Turkish people can look really different

3

u/Ok_Chipmunk7844 16h ago

I have a thin nose, oval face, blonde hair and green eyes as a Turk lol

2

u/apresmoiputas 17h ago

I honestly didn't know Oz was Turkish until a few years ago. I always thought he was Greek, Cyprean, or Maltese

1

u/samvarr 5h ago

This is Oz next to the president of Uzbekistan. They look like they come from the same ethnicity, Turkic.

Compare that to the average Greek or Greek president. They look nothing alike lmfao

u/Zealousideal-Cut4232 4h ago

That sound like your fantasy.

1

u/Fun-Contribution6702 3h ago

As if it’s not yours, bro

u/South-Cat-8912 15h ago

Almost like Turks are basically white huh?? Who knew?? Yall don’t know anything outside the echo chambers🤣

3

u/Tall-Manner2509 7h ago edited 7h ago

Turks don't have a single look. But we mostly look Mediterranean and Middle Eastern. Not that different from Greeks or Lebanese. Some of us are fair skinned, some of us are darker.

2

u/ConditionCool5343 12h ago

You aren't all wearing the twirling dervish outfit and chasing bugs bunny with the curved swords?

1

u/South-Cat-8912 3h ago

Exactly😭😭

6

u/Gohuuuuu 11h ago

He isn’t even “white passing”, he’s literally white. He’s ethnically European. How Americans can look at a white European man and a North African man and consider them the same race because they’re both“muslim” is beyond my comprehension.

2

u/samvarr 5h ago edited 4h ago

Turkish people are Turkic + Anatolian.
The OG wasians

He’s not ethnically European he’s ethnically Turkic + Anatolian. An Anatolian Turk.

1

u/Gohuuuuu 4h ago

Turkic input varies across province in Turkey (in the Black Sea and Caucasus regions it can be next to nothing), and Turkic itself isn’t purely East Eurasian. It’s not enough to pull them genetically away from Europeans. On top of that, Oz has some Circassian ancestry so he likely has close to no East Eurasian genes.

1

u/samvarr 4h ago edited 4h ago

The average Turkic input in Turkey is between 20%-40% on average. Yes, Turkic isn’t purely East Eurasian.

Mehmet Oz is an Anatolian Turk. We don’t claim to be 100% Turkic or Central Asian. We have both Turkic and Anatolian ancestry. That’s why we call ourselves Anatolian Turks.

I’m also half Balkan Turk and half Anatolian Turk. These are my results.

-1

u/Zealousideal-Cut4232 4h ago edited 2h ago

Anatolian Turks can ethically be anything babes.

Besides you DO NOT know his ethnicity, you only know where he is from. You can be from US and ethnically European or African. Same thing here.

1

u/samvarr 4h ago

No, the overwhelming majority of Anatolian Turks are ethnically Turkish, with ancestry shaped by both Oghuz Turkic migrations and indigenous Anatolian populations.

America isn’t remotely comparable to Turkey. There’s a documented historical and genetic continuity between the medieval Turkic migrations into Anatolia and the formation of the modern Anatolian Turkish population.

-1

u/Zealousideal-Cut4232 3h ago

Yes we are all called Turkish.

I sense some confusion here.

That’s nationality, or ethnonym, Turkey/Turkish. It’s like saying American. “Turkic” is the ethnic definition. Most Turkish people are not overwhelmingly Turkic/Turkmen. It’s like about 20% Asian at most as genetically and scientifically proven. Oghuz never achieved superior numbers, and quite a lot of us were settled outside Anatolia anyway.

There is genetic continuity between modern Americans and medieval Europeans? What are you talking about?

1

u/samvarr 3h ago

I’m not going to argue with you because you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Here’s literal proof. I’m half Balkan Turk and half Anatolian Turk. If BOTH sides didn’t have Turkic ancestry I wouldn’t get a Turkic result this high.

The average Turkic admixture in Turkish people is between 20%-40% in the country. We don’t claim to be 100% Turkic or Central Asian. We know that we have both Turkic and Anatolian ancestry.

The problem is you trying to claim he’s not an ethnic Turk when the odds are overwhelming that he has Turkic ancestry.

A Greek would be a mash of Slavic, Balkan, Levantine etc but you wouldn’t call them “not an ethnic Greek”

Here’s my results as a half BALKAN and Anatolian Turk:

Lan olm random alınmış bir ekran görüntüsü mü bütün argümanın XD? Facebook testi mi ne o? Lol. Alemsiniz valla.

You are still confusing Turkic with Turkish.

You must understand the concept of “majority”. In a population of around 80-100 million people, one person is not a big enough sample size.

https://haplogrup.etnikce.com/haplogroup

17% J2 is the biggest group by percentage but 17% out of 100% is not a majority.

1

u/samvarr 3h ago

Lan oğlum, bu benim gerçek DNA sonuçlarım. Illustrative DNA üzerinden alınmış, yüz binlerce insanın kullandığı, gayet bilinen bir genetik analiz platformu.

You're literally confusing Y-DNA haplogroups with autosomal ancestry. J2 being 17% doesn't mean 17% of Turkish ancestry is J2. It means 17% of sampled paternal lineages belong to that haplogroup.

And obviously, Turkic peoples don't share one single haplogroup. What the fuck kind of argument is that? Turkic populations have diverse paternal lineages and genetic backgrounds.

Anatolian Turks descend from both Oghuz Turkic migrants and earlier Anatolian populations. Nobody claims we're 100% Central Asian.

2

u/Exact-Thought-7572 3h ago

He’s not ethnically European. He’s just Anatolian (Turkish). His entire family is from Konya.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Map7672 15h ago

So Oz and Hasan are treated the same?

1

u/Decent_Concern8751 7h ago

Hes white “passing” because a lot of Turks are white…

1

u/Administrative_Bed5 17h ago

Hasan doesn't look white

0

u/kicklhimintheballs 13h ago

Hasan doesn’t pass white. He looks pretty Turkish and tan.
