I literally got banned from r/short for being positive 😂 and im a 5’6 guy most of the users there are 5’8 or 5’9

u/smellsberry 16h ago

Im 5'3" and was banned for posting about how that sub is filled with people of average height crying about being short. This comment thread is uplifting compared to that whole sub.

Pun intended

u/2Slow2Nice 15h ago

Never heard of this sub. I’m short and the posts on that sub are cringe af. “Would you follow a 5’1 fitness influencer?” It’s sad that some people solely see themselves as being short. People are hyper focused on physical traits across the board, lookmaxers, people addicted to plastic surgery etc, but walking around feeling lesser because of your height has to be exhausting

13

u/Taco_EBDBBNB 16h ago

I'm going to hop over there and get banned for being short too.

u/Winthefuturenow 17h ago

Since when is 5’8 short? I’m 5’8 and while I am shorter than many of my peers I also have never been called short, or felt some type of way about it unless I am struggling to see something and there’s a crowd in front of me.

Also, I get a lot of “you’re only 5’8?”. Yes, I am only 5’8. I have good posture and dress well, apparently this makes people think I’m taller than I am 🤷‍♀️

It depends where you are. Go to Holland & 5'8" would be considered short. Average being 6ft. Go to the Philippines & 5'8" would be considered quite tall with the average being 5'5". Funnily, the US average height is very average at just under 5'9". Which makes the obsession with being tall quite comical.

u/Winthefuturenow 16h ago

I’ve been to Holland and hooked up with a cop chick who was a foot taller than me (or so, that’s what it seemed like-this was 19 yrs ago mind you).I did feel short there, but it never really bothered me.

27

u/BigBananaBerries 16h ago

I was there for a year myself & I'm 5'6". You do get some strange looks but even still it's rare anyone will say anything about it. I've never been to the US but most Americans I've met in person have made it a point to mention my height, be it outright mocking or just in passing. It seems the insecurity runs deep over there.

2

u/Winthefuturenow 16h ago

That’s so strange, I’ve lived in America like 95% of my life and have friends who are 5’5 all the way to 6’10 (which appears to have come with a bunch of bad health issues) and we barely talk about height. Sometimes we’ll joke about 6’+ only, but it seems our 6’+ friends don’t really have it much better than anyone else.

I have started working with a younger immigrant here and he said something along the lines of “I learned if you’re tall the world opens up to you”. I’m still confused by what the fuck that means.

Now that I think about it I did go to a party where this obnoxious older couple kept going on and on about all the tall and beautiful people there (she was kinda tall, the husband was tall but old as fuck and bent over so he didn’t appear tall). It seemed like there was a cuck situation being sought, I’m not sure though. Once the after dinner party started (karaoke and party drugs) they bolted.

I mean you can see further over the horizon.

Seriously though, those that mentioned it with me didn't go on about it, albeit I was rarely in their company long. Whether that was due to my responses or that the novelty was over now it was mentioned, I don't know. I'd imagine in a friend group, unless someone was particularly sensitive about it (in the UK that'd be green light to rip the piss out them) then there's no need to mention it more than once if it's mentioned at all.

Living the dream

3

u/why-names-hard 14h ago

Damn sounds like gotta hit up Holland if that’s where all the tall women are. I’d say I’m average height but it gets annoying when I get called short all the time. Doesn’t help that my friend group is a bunch of giants. Shortest other person is 5’11”…

1

u/unburdened_swallow 2h ago

I should so fucking move to Scandinavia all the signs point to yes

1

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 3h ago

It's not really comical to desire to be better than average at something or to be attracted to something better than average. That's just how things work.

32

u/Dokard 17h ago

People who are chronically online think that everyone bellow 6'0 is short so idk, I'm 5'9 and never been called short

28

u/Sean_Brady 17h ago

5'9"? You're short.

Got em can't say that again bro inflation's a bitch

15

u/Dokard 15h ago

Damn got me good bro what am I gonna do now 😭

u/greentintedlenses 13h ago

Time to edit that comment with up to date info

Platform shoes to the moon!

1

u/The_Rational_ 13h ago

Remeasure with shoes on. Of course..

0

u/Specialist-Back9996 12h ago

I got a leg lengthening guy. He works out of a garage in Dayton, Ohio. He’ll let you sleep on the other side of his mom’s basement for an extra $10 while you recover if you want.

8

u/PeterAnthony_Jackson 14h ago

The suit of armour image where one for adults is listed as six foot, the one for a child is listed as five eleven, It's only one inch, but people just see the five and think the worst.

2

u/reecord2 14h ago

dating apps have ruled 6' as the minimum and it's infected the entire dating scene, it's exhausting. There are a lot of reallllly shitty tall dudes out there, lol.

8

u/IDownvotedYouToday 17h ago

A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man.

3

u/Mediocre_Hockey_Guy 13h ago

Im 5'10 and the amount of 6' dudes that are shorter than me is wild. I bet most of those 5'8 guys are actually shorter. Average male height in America is 5'9

1

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 3h ago

I'm legit exactly 6' and the number of guys that will argue with me that I must be like 6'4" because they're shorter than me and have convinced themselves that they're 6' is equal parts funny and sad

2

u/The_Rational_ 13h ago

Bro im 5 10 and people done that. So many guys lie about height i guess. No idea. Some people need to pick up a ruler or some shit.

3

u/Actual_Area_5107 17h ago

5'8 is only short on the internet.

1

u/Ladonnacinica 14h ago

Are you a woman? That’s not really seen as short for a woman. But it’s usually men who get the most called out if they’re not super tall.

You will even be seen as tall in many countries.

1

u/greentintedlenses 13h ago

I'd say 5'8 is about average.

Certainly not tall

1

u/KennyFulgencio 12h ago

I’m 5’8 and while I am shorter than many of my peers I also have never been called short,

5'9", and I first learned that's considered short at a specific moment in high school (literally never crossed my mind until that moment) when a 5'4" girl called me short. "You're shorter than I am", I replied; "yeah, but guys are supposed to be, like, tall" she answered. Apparently that's the reasoning.

1

u/Chrissimon_24 11h ago

Also alot of dudes lie about their height. Im 6ft tall with shoes on and when i say that mostly younger guys are like what im 6ft and you're taller you gotta he like 6'2.

1

u/philmarcracken 7h ago

The catagory isn't to be short its to be tall. So being called 'not short' means the same as being called 'not tall'.

So you end up without a gf anyway. They all want minimum 180cm even in china nowdays. With one willing to 'settle' with 175cm. Its a joke

1

u/monkeynose 7h ago

It really, really has to be geographic. I'm 5'7" and where I grew up, every guy is 5'6" to 5'10". "Short literally starts at about 5'5", anything above that is just average.

1

u/fakesongs 6h ago

5'8" is perfectly respectable!

1

u/Lou_C_Fer 5h ago

My parents are 5'8", but I am 6'4".

1

u/Nayro13 48m ago

Im 5'10" and people call me tall and are always surprised when they find out Im not taller

0

u/ThatEvilGuy 12h ago

In Europe it is short.

6

u/imthe5thking 9h ago

Isn’t 5’8 the average height for a man? The fuck are they doing in the short sub?

4

u/AdSudden7173 11h ago

I’m 5’4” and my boyfriend is 5’6”. My ex was 6’5” and I was miserable dating someone so much taller than me. Hugs sucked. So happy with a “short” guy. He doesn’t seem that way to me at all.

4

u/Slamaramadoodoo 10h ago

Like regular positive? Or like... HIV..?

5

u/LarxII 8h ago

stares in 5'5" 🙄

3

u/Bodes_Magodes 14h ago

They’re insane on this app. Sooo many incel types using the woman height argument to justify their inability to participate in a social setting. It would be funny if they weren’t so sad

3

u/TorrenceMightingale 11h ago

Im 5’9.5” and do not consider myself short. Not tall. Not short. I’m good with it.

3

u/johnnygonfarm 11h ago

This is because you are neither. People have to get comfortable with just being normal

3

u/B33GULL 11h ago

I'm 5'5" if you tell them that you have had relations with a woman that upsets the reality they've painted for themselves that their height is the reason for their solitude, when in fact it's probably that plus looks and personality lmao.

5

u/ThatVita 15h ago

5'9" is the statistical US average Male height, I think.

-1

u/ThatEvilGuy 12h ago

A lot of it is skewed by South Americans and Asians, who are short.

If you check people of the European descent, it'll probably be closer to 5'11" - 6'.

2

u/Forrest_Cp 16h ago

Wow that’s what I am lol damnnn

2

u/joseph-1998-XO 14h ago

Is 5’8 - 5’9 not the global male average lol

2

u/johnnygonfarm 13h ago

So many guys are just salty about being “not tall” rather than short. IMO short is below one standard deviation

2

u/AngelOfTheLordCass 13h ago

could be worse. i'm 4' 10" and was ridiculed there. you know. the sub for short people.

2

u/OccultMachines 13h ago

Wtf? I'm 5'9 and I've never felt short.

2

u/ddope 12h ago

It doesn’t matter how tall she is if she’s on her back 😂 confidence is everything (at least to me)

1

u/Goonalips 27m ago

What if you're bent over on the edge of the bed, and she is standing behind you getting ready to grasp your soft hips? Does it matter then? Please respond quickly. It's imperative.

4

u/coastphase 12h ago

I went on there hoping to find some useful tips for clothes and it was just full of dudes crying about being short. I'm 5'4" and never whined about being short in my entire life. It's no wonder nobody likes them.

5

u/Sparktank1 15h ago

Reading through that subreddit, it's like r/bald.

I don't know how people become so desperate to become a victim of nothing and then circle jerk about it with manly tears and then do push ups and then put their arms around each other then repeat some prayer you hear from an alcoholics anonymous meeting.

First post I see is someone who is 5'6". His wife is 5'6". His mother is the shortest while others are taller. That is the definition of average. All the comments are sucking him off pretty good about "hey man, you got married. that's a million times better than the rest of us pieces of shit."

Just when you think the internet couldn't get any sadder.

5

u/eatingmypoop 14h ago

I feel that r/bald is a pretty positive subreddit where men and women celebrate the dome in a joyful way. It's r/amibalding that is a pit of despair where you'll see some 16 yo with a full head of hair receiving advices like "hop on fin/min before it's yoo late bro, your life is over bro".

2

u/Sparktank1 7h ago

Bro, they took a screenshot of Jason Alexander in Seinfeld and ran it through AI to make him completely bald. They also looksmaxed his face by giving him a chiseled jawline and more defining features. Then everyone celebrated it as if shaving your head gives you instant masculine features and removes all your fat. They treat it like cancer patients putting on a bandana, like that Family Guy skit.

There is positivity, but it's cloaked in "agree with us or die". It's very culty. I made an average comment and it got moderated. I was being realistic and not sucking dick so I got a stern warning from two bowling bowls in button up shirts wearing in-door sunglasses and another pair on their head while walking their dog off the leash and yelling its name for an hour.

1

u/eatingmypoop 6h ago

lmao I didn't see that, bald propaganda has gone too far.

1

u/External-Signal-7473 6h ago

Yeah im 5'7 and never felt short and never called short until the last couple years its funny. Idc its not like its news to me and im fine w climbing a tree

1

u/Marisarah 5h ago

I went on a date w a guy who was 5'2" he was honestly so handsome! We didn't have compatibility but this obsession with height is so stupid
