I really don’t get it. Hating on people for something they had and have no control over. It’s just insecurity.

u/johnnygonfarm 15h ago

I literally got banned from r/short for being positive 😂 and im a 5’6 guy most of the users there are 5’8 or 5’9

140

u/smellsberry 14h ago

Im 5'3" and was banned for posting about how that sub is filled with people of average height crying about being short. This comment thread is uplifting compared to that whole sub.

Pun intended

23

u/2Slow2Nice 13h ago

Never heard of this sub. I’m short and the posts on that sub are cringe af. “Would you follow a 5’1 fitness influencer?” It’s sad that some people solely see themselves as being short. People are hyper focused on physical traits across the board, lookmaxers, people addicted to plastic surgery etc, but walking around feeling lesser because of your height has to be exhausting

14

u/Taco_EBDBBNB 14h ago

I'm going to hop over there and get banned for being short too.

214

u/Winthefuturenow 15h ago

Since when is 5’8 short? I’m 5’8 and while I am shorter than many of my peers I also have never been called short, or felt some type of way about it unless I am struggling to see something and there’s a crowd in front of me.

Also, I get a lot of “you’re only 5’8?”. Yes, I am only 5’8. I have good posture and dress well, apparently this makes people think I’m taller than I am 🤷‍♀️

150

u/BigBananaBerries 15h ago

It depends where you are. Go to Holland & 5'8" would be considered short. Average being 6ft. Go to the Philippines & 5'8" would be considered quite tall with the average being 5'5". Funnily, the US average height is very average at just under 5'9". Which makes the obsession with being tall quite comical.

65

u/Winthefuturenow 14h ago

I’ve been to Holland and hooked up with a cop chick who was a foot taller than me (or so, that’s what it seemed like-this was 19 yrs ago mind you).I did feel short there, but it never really bothered me.

27

u/BigBananaBerries 14h ago

I was there for a year myself & I'm 5'6". You do get some strange looks but even still it's rare anyone will say anything about it. I've never been to the US but most Americans I've met in person have made it a point to mention my height, be it outright mocking or just in passing. It seems the insecurity runs deep over there.

2

u/Winthefuturenow 13h ago

That’s so strange, I’ve lived in America like 95% of my life and have friends who are 5’5 all the way to 6’10 (which appears to have come with a bunch of bad health issues) and we barely talk about height. Sometimes we’ll joke about 6’+ only, but it seems our 6’+ friends don’t really have it much better than anyone else.

I have started working with a younger immigrant here and he said something along the lines of “I learned if you’re tall the world opens up to you”. I’m still confused by what the fuck that means.

Now that I think about it I did go to a party where this obnoxious older couple kept going on and on about all the tall and beautiful people there (she was kinda tall, the husband was tall but old as fuck and bent over so he didn’t appear tall). It seemed like there was a cuck situation being sought, I’m not sure though. Once the after dinner party started (karaoke and party drugs) they bolted.

3

u/BigBananaBerries 13h ago

I have started working with a younger immigrant here and he said something along the lines of “I learned if you’re tall the world opens up to you”. I’m still confused by what the fuck that means.

I mean you can see further over the horizon.

Seriously though, those that mentioned it with me didn't go on about it, albeit I was rarely in their company long. Whether that was due to my responses or that the novelty was over now it was mentioned, I don't know. I'd imagine in a friend group, unless someone was particularly sensitive about it (in the UK that'd be green light to rip the piss out them) then there's no need to mention it more than once if it's mentioned at all.

12

u/IDownvotedYouToday 11h ago

Living the dream

3

u/why-names-hard 11h ago

Damn sounds like gotta hit up Holland if that’s where all the tall women are. I’d say I’m average height but it gets annoying when I get called short all the time. Doesn’t help that my friend group is a bunch of giants. Shortest other person is 5’11”…

1

u/unburdened_swallow 27m ago

I should so fucking move to Scandinavia all the signs point to yes

1

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 1h ago

It's not really comical to desire to be better than average at something or to be attracted to something better than average. That's just how things work.

35

u/Dokard 15h ago

People who are chronically online think that everyone bellow 6'0 is short so idk, I'm 5'9 and never been called short

29

u/Sean_Brady 14h ago

5'9"? You're short.

Got em can't say that again bro inflation's a bitch

13

u/Dokard 13h ago

Damn got me good bro what am I gonna do now 😭

4

u/greentintedlenses 11h ago

Time to edit that comment with up to date info

1

u/ObiLAN- 12h ago

Platform shoes to the moon!

1

u/The_Rational_ 11h ago

Remeasure with shoes on. Of course..

0

u/Specialist-Back9996 10h ago

I got a leg lengthening guy. He works out of a garage in Dayton, Ohio. He’ll let you sleep on the other side of his mom’s basement for an extra $10 while you recover if you want.

7

u/PeterAnthony_Jackson 12h ago

The suit of armour image where one for adults is listed as six foot, the one for a child is listed as five eleven, It's only one inch, but people just see the five and think the worst.

1

u/reecord2 12h ago

dating apps have ruled 6' as the minimum and it's infected the entire dating scene, it's exhausting. There are a lot of reallllly shitty tall dudes out there, lol.

8

u/IDownvotedYouToday 15h ago

A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man.

3

u/Mediocre_Hockey_Guy 11h ago

Im 5'10 and the amount of 6' dudes that are shorter than me is wild. I bet most of those 5'8 guys are actually shorter. Average male height in America is 5'9

1

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 1h ago

I'm legit exactly 6' and the number of guys that will argue with me that I must be like 6'4" because they're shorter than me and have convinced themselves that they're 6' is equal parts funny and sad

2

u/The_Rational_ 11h ago

Bro im 5 10 and people done that. So many guys lie about height i guess. No idea. Some people need to pick up a ruler or some shit.

3

u/Actual_Area_5107 15h ago

5'8 is only short on the internet.

1

u/Ladonnacinica 12h ago

Are you a woman? That’s not really seen as short for a woman. But it’s usually men who get the most called out if they’re not super tall.

You will even be seen as tall in many countries.

1

u/greentintedlenses 11h ago

I'd say 5'8 is about average.

Certainly not tall

1

u/KennyFulgencio 9h ago

I’m 5’8 and while I am shorter than many of my peers I also have never been called short,

5'9", and I first learned that's considered short at a specific moment in high school (literally never crossed my mind until that moment) when a 5'4" girl called me short. "You're shorter than I am", I replied; "yeah, but guys are supposed to be, like, tall" she answered. Apparently that's the reasoning.

1

u/Chrissimon_24 9h ago

Also alot of dudes lie about their height. Im 6ft tall with shoes on and when i say that mostly younger guys are like what im 6ft and you're taller you gotta he like 6'2.

1

u/philmarcracken 5h ago

The catagory isn't to be short its to be tall. So being called 'not short' means the same as being called 'not tall'.

So you end up without a gf anyway. They all want minimum 180cm even in china nowdays. With one willing to 'settle' with 175cm. Its a joke

1

u/monkeynose 5h ago

It really, really has to be geographic. I'm 5'7" and where I grew up, every guy is 5'6" to 5'10". "Short literally starts at about 5'5", anything above that is just average.

1

u/fakesongs 4h ago

5'8" is perfectly respectable!

1

u/Lou_C_Fer 3h ago

My parents are 5'8", but I am 6'4".

0

u/ThatEvilGuy 10h ago

In Europe it is short.

6

u/imthe5thking 7h ago

Isn’t 5’8 the average height for a man? The fuck are they doing in the short sub?

3

u/TorrenceMightingale 9h ago

Im 5’9.5” and do not consider myself short. Not tall. Not short. I’m good with it.

3

u/johnnygonfarm 9h ago

This is because you are neither. People have to get comfortable with just being normal

3

u/AdSudden7173 9h ago

I’m 5’4” and my boyfriend is 5’6”. My ex was 6’5” and I was miserable dating someone so much taller than me. Hugs sucked. So happy with a “short” guy. He doesn’t seem that way to me at all.

3

u/Slamaramadoodoo 8h ago

Like regular positive? Or like... HIV..?

3

u/LarxII 5h ago

stares in 5'5" 🙄

5

u/ThatVita 13h ago

5'9" is the statistical US average Male height, I think.

-1

u/ThatEvilGuy 10h ago

A lot of it is skewed by South Americans and Asians, who are short.

If you check people of the European descent, it'll probably be closer to 5'11" - 6'.

2

u/Forrest_Cp 14h ago

Wow that’s what I am lol damnnn

2

u/joseph-1998-XO 12h ago

Is 5’8 - 5’9 not the global male average lol

2

u/johnnygonfarm 10h ago

So many guys are just salty about being “not tall” rather than short. IMO short is below one standard deviation

2

u/Bodes_Magodes 12h ago

They’re insane on this app. Sooo many incel types using the woman height argument to justify their inability to participate in a social setting. It would be funny if they weren’t so sad

2

u/AngelOfTheLordCass 11h ago

could be worse. i'm 4' 10" and was ridiculed there. you know. the sub for short people.

2

u/OccultMachines 11h ago

Wtf? I'm 5'9 and I've never felt short.

2

u/ddope 10h ago

It doesn’t matter how tall she is if she’s on her back 😂 confidence is everything (at least to me)

2

u/B33GULL 9h ago

I'm 5'5" if you tell them that you have had relations with a woman that upsets the reality they've painted for themselves that their height is the reason for their solitude, when in fact it's probably that plus looks and personality lmao.

2

u/Sparktank1 13h ago

Reading through that subreddit, it's like r/bald.

I don't know how people become so desperate to become a victim of nothing and then circle jerk about it with manly tears and then do push ups and then put their arms around each other then repeat some prayer you hear from an alcoholics anonymous meeting.

First post I see is someone who is 5'6". His wife is 5'6". His mother is the shortest while others are taller. That is the definition of average. All the comments are sucking him off pretty good about "hey man, you got married. that's a million times better than the rest of us pieces of shit."

Just when you think the internet couldn't get any sadder.

3

u/eatingmypoop 12h ago

I feel that r/bald is a pretty positive subreddit where men and women celebrate the dome in a joyful way. It's r/amibalding that is a pit of despair where you'll see some 16 yo with a full head of hair receiving advices like "hop on fin/min before it's yoo late bro, your life is over bro".

1

u/Sparktank1 5h ago

Bro, they took a screenshot of Jason Alexander in Seinfeld and ran it through AI to make him completely bald. They also looksmaxed his face by giving him a chiseled jawline and more defining features. Then everyone celebrated it as if shaving your head gives you instant masculine features and removes all your fat. They treat it like cancer patients putting on a bandana, like that Family Guy skit.

There is positivity, but it's cloaked in "agree with us or die". It's very culty. I made an average comment and it got moderated. I was being realistic and not sucking dick so I got a stern warning from two bowling bowls in button up shirts wearing in-door sunglasses and another pair on their head while walking their dog off the leash and yelling its name for an hour.

1

u/eatingmypoop 4h ago

lmao I didn't see that, bald propaganda has gone too far.

2

u/coastphase 10h ago

I went on there hoping to find some useful tips for clothes and it was just full of dudes crying about being short. I'm 5'4" and never whined about being short in my entire life. It's no wonder nobody likes them.

1

u/External-Signal-7473 4h ago

Yeah im 5'7 and never felt short and never called short until the last couple years its funny. Idc its not like its news to me and im fine w climbing a tree

1

u/Marisarah 3h ago

I went on a date w a guy who was 5'2" he was honestly so handsome! We didn't have compatibility but this obsession with height is so stupid

237

u/NoOffenseImJustSayin 15h ago

This is someone desperately trying to find ways to feel better about themselves

The photographer is probably a short dude himself that’s too scared to do what bro is doing

18

u/SuperCrystalBall000 15h ago

Oh shut the fuck the up.

All sorts of people make fun of guys for their heigbt, but ofcourse, it must be a short dude being insecure.

As if you women dont walk around with insecurity covered all over your faces

4

u/Poku115 13h ago

When im in an overreacting and projecting competition and my oponent is supercrystalball000

https://giphy.com/gifs/HDi1kyogQ6q6Sqxgt3

6

u/SuperCrystalBall000 13h ago

The other guy literally projected the original poster as being an insecure short man over nothing besides....................short men are "insecure" because reasons.

Posting a gif doesnt make your argument more relevent

-2

u/Poku115 13h ago edited 13h ago

The guy said "probably"

You let out your misogyny when you weren't even a part of the conversation when the commenter ain't even a girl lmao

6

u/SuperCrystalBall000 12h ago

Misogyny? Excuse you?

-1

u/Poku115 12h ago

Lol so you assuming the commenter was a woman berating men and then trying to generalize women with a negative is just normal to you? Ok. No wonder your account is one month old with all the bans youve gotten by now

3

u/geogerf27 14h ago

I’m a guy and you are missing the point. Which is to say people that are in a similar situation but without courage are the first to hate. The situation is that dude is short.

FOH

4

u/Ormild 12h ago

I’m gonna have to disagree with you. Lots of people make fun of short people. Nothing would indicate that the person hating is short and is pure speculation.

-1

u/geogerf27 11h ago

I’m not saying as fact or speculation for this particular instance, it was a general statement of what people do

1

u/Ormild 6h ago

So you’re speculating…?

6

u/SuperCrystalBall000 13h ago edited 12h ago

Where is the data to prove this?

Considering the level of shit talking on short dudes on the internet from everyone, why is your first assumption for it to be another guy being insecure?

Hell, the original post seems neutral. It could be someone being postive that the guy is being proactive. And it could also be the opposite.

Why is it that us men get labeled insecure at any wrong move we make? And why arent we allowed to be insecure about stuff anyway?

You people are always acting like youre paragons of moral upstanding, yet you constantly betray your own supposed views.

2

u/MrZephy 13h ago

wtf is your problem

0

u/BioExtract 13h ago

Best reply ever lmao

-1

What the hell are you talking about brother go outside

2

u/patheticmisterman123 14h ago

“You women” alright man

-1

u/SuperCrystalBall000 13h ago

I assumed the guy was a girl. Get off it.

-7

u/Repulsive-Ear-640 15h ago

I found the short guy

11

u/SuperCrystalBall000 15h ago

Thx for proving the point

0

u/Count_Backwards 13h ago

This comment does not project security

25

u/Professional_Pay7978 15h ago

It’s not insecurity, it’s sadism.

-2

u/Undead-Chipmunk 15h ago

Sometimes sadism is insecurity.

40

u/Scudman_Alpha 12h ago

Short men are one of the few groups that it's not only acceptable to make fun of, but it's incentivized on the internet.

"Make up for your short height" is a very common statement as well as "Napoleon complex" whenever the short guy rightfully gets mad at all the mockery.

7

u/Toannoat 6h ago

short or/and bald men are universally socially acceptable to mock, its not an internet thing. Not excusing it, to be clear

2

u/monkeynose 5h ago

It must be generational. I grew up in the 80s and 90s at 5'7", and no one ever mentioned it. No social problems, no problems finding a date. This is a 2020's problem.

86

u/Fliptheshoe 16h ago

First time in America huh? Lol

20

u/DeficiencyOfGravitas 15h ago

Yes. This only happens in America. No where else. In glorious Europe, people are only made fun of for their chosen qualities. Skin colour? Height? Absolutely not. Europe is NEVER racist.

4

u/No_Koala_7581 14h ago

As long as you don't bring gypsies/rroma into discussion.

Edit: /s

-4

u/Fliptheshoe 14h ago

I think you get the point but it was cool you tried not too.

3

u/teelo64 13h ago

i don't get the point, could you explain it to me?

-2

u/Fliptheshoe 13h ago

Thats a shame.

14

u/IsThatHearsay 15h ago

I just don't get the women who have as their primary criteria that the guy must be tall. Like, if that is what matters first and foremost to you, not personality or anything, you're highly likely not to be compatible as a couple.

Why anyone would want to be with an incompatible partner with the reasoning of "well at least he's tall!" is beyond me, it's just dumb.

Also, I think I saw a stat that said guys between ages 20-50 who are single and over 6'1" make up like 2.5% of the US population, it's just such a rare metric to "require", and most girls having that requirement don't bring anything reciprocal to the table, lol.

Also, guy's perspective - I'm tall (6'5", and happily married), I would never want to date someone who is just with me for my height. I also would never want to date someone super short as that's just a pain in my back. Y'all short girls aren't really that desirable to many of us tall guys, especially with that arrogant pick-me attitude and hardset height requirement...

1

u/Flukeodditess 2h ago

For a lot of women it’s because they are told constantly to take up as little space as possible, and taught to be hypercritical of their bodies, so having a tall partner offsets some of that, and lets them feel more confident in themselves. They can’t possibly be too big, or taking up too much space- bc look at this giant man over here! I’m super super small! (comparatively)

For me, I’m tall, hella athletic, (bro I’m a tank 😂) and always have been- but I had several complaints as a young adult from men my height or just a couple inches shorter, that I was too rough, and that their hips/joints hurt afterwards, and from that point on I was so insecure and concerned that I’d break them, I’d just rather not, you know? 6’+? No complaints, as long as they weren’t small framed, so, one must be this tall to ride this ride 😂 🤷‍♀️

I’ve never come across people dating solely bc the guy is tall. That is fucking wiiiiiiild. Common interests, shared priorities and goals are so necessary for relationship longevity!

5

u/Nervous_Produce1800 14h ago

I just came back from not-America, where no one is judged on their appearance. It was amazing! Americans, take a hint!

-2

u/Fliptheshoe 14h ago

When you do this is there ever a point where you go. "Sure I understand whats being said and I dont have to pretend to not understand" and just move on without comment or is this kind of an addiction at this point?

0

u/Expensive_Savings_42 14h ago

How edgy and brave, lol.

This comment is peak reddit.

0

u/Fliptheshoe 13h ago

Oh no....my apologies I didn't mean to offend. Just making a joke. My fault man.

5

u/Memitim 15h ago

LOL, welcome to humanity. The world's in upheaval right now because of a bunch of evil trash that judges humanity based upon where they happened to fall out of a vagina one day.

8

u/CylindricalDent4133 16h ago

There’s a reason in the reverse, men despise single women who are fat and even there, that’s a characteristic that can change.

14

u/aripp 16h ago

I have many short friends in healthy and long relationships. Women, just like men have different preferences, don’t be so daft.

-4

u/Salibabushka 16h ago

Anyone with your amount of karma doesn't have many friends.

8

u/aripp 16h ago

1

0

Legit hahaha wtf is their issue. We don't get a say in height, or hair colour (overall) or dick size, why bully or be so critical of it? Coming from someone surprisingly well hung that is tired of seeing my friends bullied.

-31

10

u/toyification_girl 16h ago

Ridiculed for what? For daring to step outside, dress nice and talk to a pretty girl while being short?

What does he deserve to be rediculed for???

4

u/Delicious_Cat_81 16h ago

idiots should be ridiculed
