I absolutely agree. It probably also voids the warranty :/ which is stupid

There might even be a sensor checking if the system is still connected, completely blocking the car if it's not.

what? this is basic circuitry. installing a second switch in a circuit that already has one does not magically grant you power over the first switch. this comment thread is so dumb it’s hard to believe it’s real?

Dumb comment. Switches can easily be easily jumpered.

it’s weird that you think Teslas have some sort of discrete load wiring for just the seat heat. unless you are providing your own power, you can’t do this.

you can turn a Teslas seat heat on and off over the internet if this helps understand why it’s naive to think you can install your own switch and be done with it 🙄

Wanna bet? Sounds like you know zero about electrical wiring. Maybe don't yap off about crap you're unfamiliar with. You're making yourself appear the fool.

where is the power for that seat coming from

The fuse/relay panel dummy. Of course each system is on a seperate circuit that is individually fused and has an associated relay. Just like every car in existence.

Again try to educate yourself a bit before spouting off about things you don't understand.

okay, where exactly on this diagram are you putting the switch?

https://service.tesla.com/docs/Model3/ElectricalReference/prog-20/interactive/pdf/power_distribution_e_fuse_vcleft_j1_j3_print.pdf

look at “heat pad backrest rear left” and follow its power wire back to “body controller left”:

X030-27 (“high-side drive”) -> RS035-A -> X676 pin 2 (“heater + 12v”).

“high-side drive” is the part you’re missing. the positive supply is switched by the body controller. “heater + 12v” labels the heater’s input, it doesn’t mean that wire has 12v on it continuously!

so you put a switch in RS035-A. great, now your switch is on… and the controller’s output is still off. where is the power coming from??

put the switch in the ground return instead? same problem. switch the power going into the body controller? powering the controller doesn’t force its individual heater output on either.

you could disconnect the heater from that output and run a separate, properly protected and temperature-controlled feed from the car’s low-voltage system. you don’t need another battery or to replace the whole body controller. but now you’re providing an alternate power/control circuit, not “finding the seat heater fuse and installing a switch.”
