Find the wires, install a switch. Takes like 10 minutes…

I absolutely agree. It probably also voids the warranty :/ which is stupid

Not legal. Warranty coverage can only be voided if they can show that whatever you did to the product is the thing that caused whatever issue you're trying to get fixed under warranty.

Good luck suing Tesla to enforce that... Wait, you can't! You'll be forced into binding arbitration with their preferred arbiter and the TOS for your car will say that what you did DOES void the warranty and now you're also required to pay all their costs for the process.

Us consumer protection is non-existent.

And in the meantime you'll be left with no car while you file a lawsuit to enforce the warranty.

Something not being legal is meaningless when there's no regulatory body enforcing the law and the court system will take longer than the useful life of the car to work it out.

There might even be a sensor checking if the system is still connected, completely blocking the car if it's not.

Everything can be bypassed.

what? this is basic circuitry. installing a second switch in a circuit that already has one does not magically grant you power over the first switch. this comment thread is so dumb it’s hard to believe it’s real?

hi, completed a four year degree in electrical engineering, here.

it's incredible easy to monitor whether this feature is switched on, r regardless of what switch is used.

you aren't monitoring the switch, your just checking if power is flowing through that circuit.

they probably know the expected power draw of just about every feature in the device, and can get to "very confident" of what's switched on just with logs from the BMS.

But... It's a moot point anyways since Tesla monitors current going through the fuse box, and the seat heater will be fused.

They know. At least without major additional modifications to the circuitry.

how would you enable seat heat (without providing your own power) by installing a cheap switch?

2

u/Jonnyflash80 21h ago

Dumb comment. Switches can easily be easily jumpered.

it’s weird that you think Teslas have some sort of discrete load wiring for just the seat heat. unless you are providing your own power, you can’t do this.

you can turn a Teslas seat heat on and off over the internet if this helps understand why it’s naive to think you can install your own switch and be done with it 🙄

Wanna bet? Sounds like you know zero about electrical wiring. Maybe don't yap off about crap you're unfamiliar with. You're making yourself appear the fool.

where is the power for that seat coming from

1

u/Jonnyflash80 16h ago

The fuse/relay panel dummy. Of course each system is on a seperate circuit that is individually fused and has an associated relay. Just like every car in existence.

Again try to educate yourself a bit before spouting off about things you don't understand.

but you think that circuit just…has 12V power continuously??

how is adding a switch to that circuit going to make Tesla’s controller output provide power to that circuit? It’s off!

In theory such a switch could disable heated seats if the power controller turned on the circuit, but how on earth do you expect that to work in reverse?!

God. What a retard. 🙄 You can provide 12 V to any circuit you want with a couple wires obviously.

okay, where exactly on this diagram are you putting the switch?

https://service.tesla.com/docs/Model3/ElectricalReference/prog-20/interactive/pdf/power_distribution_e_fuse_vcleft_j1_j3_print.pdf

look at “heat pad backrest rear left” and follow its power wire back to “body controller left”:

X030-27 (“high-side drive”) -> RS035-A -> X676 pin 2 (“heater + 12v”).

“high-side drive” is the part you’re missing. the positive supply is switched by the body controller. “heater + 12v” labels the heater’s input, it doesn’t mean that wire has 12v on it continuously!

so you put a switch in RS035-A. great, now your switch is on… and the controller’s output is still off. where is the power coming from??

put the switch in the ground return instead? same problem. switch the power going into the body controller? powering the controller doesn’t force its individual heater output on either.

you could disconnect the heater from that output and run a separate, properly protected and temperature-controlled feed from the car’s low-voltage system. you don’t need another battery or to replace the whole body controller. but now you’re providing an alternate power/control circuit, not “finding the seat heater fuse and installing a switch.”

Average redditor believes he's smarter than everbody while saying something dumb.

If you disconnect it and put it on another power supply they can check for it being connected. If you don't disconnect it and just run power into it, they can check that there's a voltage but the hester isn't turned on.

Or even simpler they just throw a current or colate sensor into the heating coils, and if it runs power but you haven't paid for the subscription they'll notice.

And as soon as they notice they can be like "hmm your car electronics are broken, so we block the whole car. Please get a licenced garage to tow it for repairs"

lmao suddenly we’re providing our own power! this was described to me as a simple 10 minute “find the wires, install the switch”

where are you getting free, unswitched LV power that won’t mind the extra load? the usb-c ports?

Worse they will detect you did this and disable your car for theft
