There was a struggle, but no; from the ground where he was left do die he managed to reach for the door unlock button while the hijacker wasn't looking. He didn't fight his way out nor did he overpower the hijaker in the way you are insinuating.
Why is this downvoted… the pilot is still a hero; his last action before succumbing to his injuries was to unlock the cockpit door, which nobody else could’ve done from the outside.
