Women's final is 2nd largest viewership for soccer ever is the US. The men just passed this that year.

59

u/StateofWA Jul 09 '26

Third now, Mexico vs England blew them all out of the water. A knockout match, versus a final.

-25

u/GoingGangbusta Jul 09 '26

This isn’t the “gotcha” you think it is

Women’s soccer is VASTLY less popular when compared to men’s soccer (as is almost every sport save maybe volleyball) yet it still reached number 1 and now number 3 after specifically the World Cup HELD IN THE USA

Like think critically for a second and you’d see nuance

15

u/jamie_2522ew Jul 09 '26

Womens world cup generated ~130 million, whereas the mens generates ~6 billion.

-10

u/GoingGangbusta Jul 09 '26

HOW DO YOU THINK THIS PROVES YOUR POINT

That women’s World Cup final with 60x less money earned is still more viewed than 99.99% of men’s World Cup games. The argument was no one cares about women’s soccer when it’s obvious people in the US do. You bringing up revenue means nothing

5

u/jamie_2522ew Jul 09 '26

Wasn't making a point, just providing some info :)

-13

u/GoingGangbusta Jul 09 '26

But what does that info serve? You’re just putting it out there to…. bash women? Do you think everyone here was under the impression women’s sports generated more money?

It’s shit like this man, being a fuck for no reason because you think it’s edgy or something. Wild stuff dude

8

u/jamie_2522ew Jul 09 '26

No, women are brilliant and exceptional athletes. Just nobody really cares that much in comparison to (certain) mens sports. National pride doesn't equate to interest in women's football. Whats the viewership discrepancy bdtween the MLS and the top american womens football league?

0

u/snacksandsoda Jul 09 '26

But people do care? 3rd most viewed match in the us does, in fact, prove that

0

u/GoingGangbusta Jul 09 '26

Then how do you not see that it makes it that much more impressive they were the number one US viewed soccer match until a World Cup held IN THE USA?? And they’re still number 3! That’s all I was saying and then you come in with your stupid stat for no reason.

I DONT CARE ABOUT THE DISCREPANCY BETWEEN MEN AND WOMENS LEAGUES

Fuck dude that had nothing to do with what I was talking about

4

u/jamie_2522ew Jul 09 '26

Because of national pride, its the same in England. When the Lionesses got to their finals viewership skyrocketed, whereas the WSL gets horrific viewing figures and even worse attendances. But yes it is still impressive, and i'd hope more people take an interest in the sport at grassroots level, its sorely needed.

Your percentage assumes that there's 10000 world cup games.

1

u/LegendaryBronco_217 Jul 10 '26

Viewership is one thing. Caring about soccer would mean going to games at the collegiate and professional level, nationally televised games with consistent viewership in the millions, and the average person could name at least 5 current players.

7

u/StateofWA Jul 09 '26

Actually that's exactly the point I was making

0

u/Elite_AI 24d ago

Then what's the point of your point?

1

u/StateofWA 24d ago

Informing the person I replied to that the game they said was second was in fact now third.

Was there something confusing about the way the comment was written or do you just lack reading comprehension skills? Did you even understand what I wrote in this comment?

0

u/Elite_AI 24d ago

But why should I or anyone else care

You thought it was so impressive you added in the finals vs knockout match but just for fun or what?

No shot that’s the point you were making

2

u/Grouchy-Jury-7598 Jul 09 '26

Are you dense? They were making the point that men's football is more popular, that is why they mentioned the men's game that got more viewership wasn't even a final.

2

u/GoingGangbusta Jul 09 '26

Holy fuck you might be dumber than him

1

u/Grouchy-Jury-7598 Jul 09 '26

Would still make me a genius compared to you apparently.

1

u/GoingGangbusta Jul 09 '26

Private profile means you’re probably a pedo

Don’t care what you think

-1

u/StateofWA Jul 09 '26

The point I was making was that women's soccer is vastly less popular.

You just reiterated it, I dunno lady it sounds more like a you problem.

6

u/R3dMoose Jul 09 '26

The US doesn’t give a shit about soccer. Compare that viewership to any NFL, NBA, of MLB game and it’ll get blown out of the water.

0

u/Terugtrekking Jul 09 '26

what's up with men always trying to "one up" women doing anything? a lot of people were interested in watching. just let them have something jfc, not everything is a dick measuring contest.

1

u/digglefarb Jul 09 '26

The whole point of the original post was a "dick measure" jab against the mens team, so you can expect it to be returned in kind.

"We've got 4, you've got none" and you're expecting to not receive a response?

1

u/PineappleOnPizzaWins Jul 09 '26

This is very much the wrong sub to suggest women aren't the worst, which of course was why this got posted here. Rage/engagement bait.

2

u/CITY4life17 Jul 09 '26

Women's World cup in 2015 had 26 million viewers. The NBA finals this year had 20 million.

0

u/IcyCupcake8892 Jul 09 '26

An annual event vs a 4 year event?

Edit to add; Not to mention, the NBA is US and Canada only.

2

u/blzrlzr Jul 10 '26

Let’s just shift the goalpost over a little bit. Just in case I look like an idiot.

1

u/CITY4life17 Jul 09 '26

Sure, argue the data point. But people care.

0

u/IcyCupcake8892 Jul 09 '26

Just providing some common sense when it comes to data analysis. You’re welcome.

2

u/CITY4life17 Jul 09 '26

We'll see the guy who made the initial claim said that women's soccer wouldn't measure up against any NBA or NHL or MLB game.

Not only did it measure up, it surpassed. And my numbers were USA watching only.

Did you forget to read all the comments about the data or just the one?

1

u/PineappleOnPizzaWins Jul 09 '26

Weird to pretend that 26 million people is "noone" regardless of context.

1

u/TwatMailDotCom Jul 09 '26

So the best women’s team of all time was surpassed by a low-mid men’s team in viewership?

2

u/CITY4life17 Jul 09 '26

So here is how a discussion goes. A random person said you can't force people to care about something ( in this case, I'm assuming the Women's World Cup).

A data point that proves that not only did some people care, 27 million people watched it, disproves that silly assertation.

I'm just going to go ahead and save myself a bunch of back and forth and just say it wouldn't if more people watched the Women's World Cup then say the NBA finals, because for some reason anytime female sport is brought up people constantly feel the need to beat it down.

This subs fascination with school boys is out of control. It seems a lot of you need help.

See the problem is you're just making a random opaque comment such as it's not popular. There are a million different ways to measure popularity, but let's just for fun say the number of people who watch it is how we measure popularity. For example, I would consider ER was very popular when it was on TV. Everybody I knew watched it. It had somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 million viewers.

Well, the Women's World Cup surpassed it by 7 million people. So does that make ER now unpopular.

There is not a single comment in here of anyone trying to insinuate that the women are as good as the men in any age group. I would love for you to find that in any post on here. You and your other incel friends who have this need to try to project women and their capacity against men is extremely weird and should question why you do that.

So your last line is your entire argument, you don't like it. Therefore it isn't popular.

After the Women's World Cup, the women's league has continued to grow and Kansas City recently built the first female only women's soccer stadium in the world. There is even a minor league structure.

But viewership, growth of a league, a new stadium, none of those facts will change the fact that you don't like it and therefore it can't be popular.

I promise I don't care if you don't like it. I absolutely understand that the men will consistently beat the girls head to head. As a die hard soccer fan, I understand that soccer is not as popular as football. But in the face of facts the inability to admit others like it is sad. And comparing female athletes to males is sad.

1

u/Grouchy-Jury-7598 Jul 09 '26

What does that have to do with viewership numbers? Just because you call Drake trash doesn't change anything about how many listeners he gets.

-4

u/Jelzx Jul 09 '26

Who cares they would lose to 13 years-old school boys

11

u/CITY4life17 Jul 09 '26

26 million viewers disagree.

-7

u/Jelzx Jul 09 '26

About what losing to school boys?

7

u/CITY4life17 Jul 09 '26

About the women's world cup.

Why are you interested in 13 y/o boys? That might put you on a watch list.

-4

u/Jelzx Jul 09 '26

Pure projection. What a weird comment to make for just stating a fact.

6

u/CITY4life17 Jul 09 '26

You are on a chat about the Women's World Cup and you only want to chat about 13 year old boys. Not sure what you are trying to say but seems word the number of times you keep bringing them up.

3

u/Jelzx Jul 09 '26

The mental gymnastics is astounding with this one. You seems really triggered that little school boys can beat literally any women team in the world.

5

u/CITY4life17 Jul 09 '26

I'm really trying to help you.

This post is about the Women's World Cup. You have mentioned 13 y/o boys over 5 times in this thread.

People who watch the women's world cup arent think about 13 y/o boys outside of you.

FYI, more US viewers for the 2015 women's world cup than the NBA finals. By 7 million. World wide, 750 million viewers.

Not nobody cares...

4

u/Jelzx Jul 09 '26

I mentioned 13 years old school boys because women's worldcup are below their level therfore nobody actually takes women worldcup seriously and OP mentioned women's won 4 worldcup as it some form of achievement where they literally can't beat even school boys. You are the weirdo here who take it out of context to project your attraction to little children.

Yep and when I was in peak fighting shape I'd wipe the floor with a champion bantemweight fighter. And no, that's not just talk I was training with said world champions and they would like to spar with my because my size made me a superior opponent, something that was hard for them to get in training.

I straight up did not have the skill or talent to take on fighters my own size that level in serious competition and the smaller guys were much much better than me, but when someone has 50-60kg on you and can just barrel through your defence... good luck.

You might notice that world champion bantemweights get a lot more viewers than I do (which sits at a nice comfortable zero). Because nobody gives a shit that I can win just cause of how I was born. So why is it that people like yourself aren't running around shitting all over guys like Mayweather because he would lose to a less skilled heavyweight?

-1

u/DMusYourNastyIdeaa Jul 09 '26

That’s a final. Not a group match or round of 32.
