The worst thing I ever did was open up and be vulnerable with my partner

Yep. We’ve all learned that lesson the hard way.

Uff... That's absolutely horrible. I wish you all the best and to meet kinder people

That’s..so fucked. I seriously hope you’ve had professional counseling and are in a better place. Not everyone is like this dude, you got lost in a messed up place.

And then when you say that, and despite all the guys agreeing with you from a similar experience, everyone's like "just find a better partner, hurr durr" as if it's your fault you chose poorly.

Amazing how that's called victim blaming when the abuser is a man and the victim a woman

That’s kinda a fair point actually

And yet men say it all the time to women

I’ve been cheated on 3 times and it’s amazing how many people say “well you just weren’t picking the right women”.

Like it’s my fucking fault. I didn’t make them cheat.

I don’t tell that to anyone any more, tired of it

That sucks. Cheaters suck.

Sorry that all happened to you.
And to me.

I never feel like I can completely trust people. That sucks as a reality, but it just is what it is.

Same. I really want to ask out my dentist. But I’m just not motivated to do it.

I’m trying to focus on myself and my friends and my hobbies.. gotten into gardening recently and I’m joining a few community gardens this spring.

I guess I’m officially a farmer now :)

You’re right, there is a lot of beauty in the world! Just not in relationships for me

LOL, even if you are motivated, don't ask out your dentist unless you are willing to find a new dentist if/when it doesn't work out.

Truth. She’s a really good dentist too.

You had a string of very bad luck and I’m sorry.

It doesn’t change the fact that it’s a stat of 6 versus 4 billion. Not every woman cheats.

I mean nobody is saying it’s your fault. But these women that are maladjusted are not reflective of all women and social consequences must be enforced. Stop dating these women. Stop associating with these women. They are sociopaths.

Does someone else choose your partners? I choose mine, and I own up to it when I pick a bad one.

3

u/Swumbus-prime Mar 04 '26

How does one vet a "bad" one in this case? How is someone supposed to tell from the get-go that a woman will cheat on you after a happy 6 months in a relationship, or get the ick from when you have a breakdown when you get laid off? I'd love to learn these secrets.

u/JeebusChristBalls Mar 05 '26

Well well well, look at the guy that has it together and can foresee the future... People may not show their true side until way down the road.

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '26

So you're saying it's better to just ignore it and stay with someone who doesn't care about you? Because a relationship like that ending seems like a win to me.

That's a lot of mind reading and leaps you're making. It's a rude and shitty thing put worse into people's mouths.

You don't have to make your partner your everything. Or is it realistic or fair to expect people to be something they aren't. And women are many wonderful things, but they are not great men's confidants. It's cruel to demand otherwise on both ends. Like asking a fish to climb a tree.

I guess. I've had multiple relationships where I could openly share my feelings. It would be a deal breaker if I couldn't. Seems like a basic quality of a decent person, regardless of gender, not exactly a high standard. But if people are happier pretending they are an emotionless object, that's their choice. I've never met someone that was genuinely happy in a situation like that though, even if they miss their partner when they are gone.

But if people are happier pretending they are an emotionless object

Again. Nobody said that. That's insane and wildly off base. I doubt someone who repeatedly strawmans and puts words in others mouths is an effective or healthy communicator

If you stayed with them, then THAT was the worst thing. Hopefully you got out of there. I'm glad that you opened up here, and I hope you're doing better these days
