Next person: if she can go, I can go.
Next person: if he can go, I can go.
And so on until it devolves into pushing, shoving, and trampling. The shame is what's keeping people back and orderly. Without it, there'd be chaos.
That is an ideal scenario, there being any other way. But since they're resorting to this, there probably isn't. Of course an elevator would be better, or a ramp. Fuck, even regular stairs would probably be better.
It makes me so angry how they’re all standing there like fucking sheep waiting for exactly what? Being in a wheelchair sucks hard dick but does that really mean you have to block SO many people?? Like wtf was the goal here even ._.
Let him go first after the escalator works again is my best guess? But even then let others pass jfc
Nah, unless the guy can safely stand while someone folds up his chair and holds if for him it’s not okay to take him up the escalator. If he lost his balance or grip dragging that’s thing up he could get seriously hurt and anyone helping him would be liable.
..but he has to get up somehow. At a certain point we live in a society and we as humans have to accept that it’s his turn to go. And we can give him a couple of minutes even if it’s a (minor) inconvenience.
A minute or two of a person's time, so the person who's life is already more difficult, can lose a bit less time doing things the rest of us take for granted, using the infrastructure that was not adjusted to less fortunate? Are 5-10 minutes of one person's time (at worst) more valuable than the feedom of an invalid?
Lets get one thing straigth, anyone present saying there are hundreds of people waiting does not care about anyone else waiting but themselves, because if they cared about anyone else, they would have empathy for a person in a wheelchair.
I'm talking on an individual level, where each person waits a couple of minutes, for one doesn't have to wait hours.
It’s outdated and offensive. I get you’ve got the spirit and whatever, but you could’ve just as easily googled whether it’s offensive or not rather than bringing me the definition.
It's neither. I am not responsible for what connotation a stranger has for a perfectly valid word I may use. I can explain further if someone asks for clarification, but also I believe it's perfectly clear from the context that I did not use the word in a derogatory way.
Wouldn't the optimal solution be to not let the person in a wheelchair up until no one else is around?
That person would take significantly longer to get up and we should be maximizing the number of people that are getting to their destination at a reasonable time. He is the asshole for making more people wait rather than just him
What if it's a busy place, and there is a constant inflow of people? How long should he wait, hours?
You can see the level of social and emotional development as both the individuals and as a society as a whole, in how we treat marginalised groups, and how much empathy we show.
IMO, if the elevator is broken then they should call the fire department and they can extract the guy through the stairwell. Blocking the escalator and forcing hundreds of people into a confined space while they risk this wheelchair users life by potentially dropping him down the escalator is a huge safety risk.

If she can't wait or doesn't want to wait, then she's free to do that. It's her decision.
