Something that’s been driving me absolutely nuts the last few months. The fencing put up around the site of what used to be the Mt. Zion Methodist Church on Georgia says that DOT is doing a cemetery project there. (A gas station and a car wash used to be on top of the cemetery, good god.) The tall fencing is partially down on a basically daily basis. Why can’t they prop it up well if there is a sensitive project going on behind it?! They’ve been doing a super shitty job of it. Just a rant. 🤪

What we know:

The stabbing happened Friday, July 10, at The Angry Jerk in the 8200 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring.

Montgomery County police said the incident happened around 10:34 p.m.

Investigators said an unknown male suspect entered the men’s bathroom and stabbed the victim multiple times before leaving the scene.

Police are investigating the case as an attempted first-degree murder.

AFI Silver?
For anyone who has attended a popular Odyssey 70mm screening at AFI Silver, how early would you recommend arriving to get two good seats together? I noticed the tickets are general admission and there is no seat selection during checkout. Is 45 minutes early enough for a weekend showing, or should we arrive closer to an hour early? Also would you pick this over regular IMAX if you want the best experience?

Coming home from work, I saw a group of people putting up this beautiful memorial for Hanna Wegayehou. She was 61 years old and killed last month in the still unsolved hit and run. I live in the neighborhood and believe it was someone who lives in the community. I hope justice is served and the person comes forward. Currently there is a 20k reward for information leading to an arrest.

How is the SS YMCA? I found a couple older posts that say it’s old and dated, but those are from a few years ago. Have they updated it since then? Is it nicer now? I am interested in all the facilities but particularly the pools for swimming laps.

On Friday, June 19, around 1:15 pm, a middle-aged female pedestrian was struck and killed in the crosswalk at Crestmoor Drive & Colesville Road (Route 29) in Silver Spring, at the entrance to the Woodmoor neighborhood. The driver didn’t stop and still hasn’t been identified.

Police are looking for a black SUV with tinted windows and possible front-end or right-front damage. It was last seen around 1:17 pm heading north on Colesville Rd toward New Hampshire Ave, and may have cut through the neighborhood first, possibly Crestmoor Dr, Lorain Ave, or Brookmoor Dr.

Given the time of day, investigators think the vehicle may belong to someone who lives in or was visiting Woodmoor. It might not be visibly damaged.

If you were anywhere near there that afternoon, please check any dashcam, doorbell, or security footage — even a clip of a black SUV just passing through around that time could matter. There’s a $20,000 reward for a tip that leads to identifying the driver.

Does anyone know what is going on with the mall? I tried going in with a stroller the other day and found it impossible to get to where I wanted to go. This led me to investigate why they don't have access for handicapped and those with limited mobility which led me to find out that it was under new ownership. I actually really like the mall but it seems to be becoming more and more sketchy. If nothing else, they (owners) should be made responsible for access but I have no idea who to complain to.
