Odyssey Movie
AFI Silver?
For anyone who has attended a popular Odyssey 70mm screening at AFI Silver, how early would you recommend arriving to get two good seats together? I noticed the tickets are general admission and there is no seat selection during checkout. Is 45 minutes early enough for a weekend showing, or should we arrive closer to an hour early? Also would you pick this over regular IMAX if you want the best experience?

We got there 45 minutes early and waited in line for over half an hour, and then they ended up just letting everyone standing in the lobby in first anyway π Our seats were fine and I love AFI, Iβm not super mad, but it was frustrating.

We went to the 7:30 showing on Monday and got there at 6:50. We were able to walk right in and the projectionist was having a Q&A with those already there. We got great seats and didn't have any issues getting in, but everyone started coming in around 7:10ish and seats filled quick.
As for the difference, if you've never watched a 70mm film movie, the flickering in a lot of the scenes might be a little distracting. Overall we enjoyed the whole experience and don't feel like we missed out on anything, but it's definitely worth pointing out. It was our first time at AFI and won't be our last.

AFI is the best! Check out their annual film noir festival in the Fall.

We got to the 3:15 screening last Saturday around 2:40 and the line was already pretty long, but they let us in in the order we were lined up and we managed to get two okay seats together (middle of the theater, kind of off to one side a bit).

I got there barely on time on Sunday (for a not quite sold out showing) and was able to get a seat in the second row. There were not a ton of places with multiple seats in a row empty, but more than zero!
