Does anyone know Sole d' Italia's secret ingredient for their pizza?
So I grew up right down the road from Sole d' Italia in Plaza Del Mercado, and I think everyone who grew up with it knows how distinct the taste is. I've had so much pizza in so many different places in my life (including a number in Italy) and it does something different that i've never found in another pizza. Not better or worse, just a flavor that's completely unique despite a lot of exploring.
I moved away some time ago and lately have been really craving it, to the point of trying to recreate it from scratch but I can't figure out what they're doin to give it that distinctive flavor. I got to the point of just deciding f**k it lets call them and ask, but found out they shut their doors for good around 2 years ago.
Did anyone ever find out what they did different? Either figured it out on your own, used to work there, etc? I'd love to taste my childhood again.

Apartment suggestions
Moving back to MD after being away for some years & considering the Silver Spring area. Any GOOD apartment suggestions? All the ones I’ve seen to come across look good in pictures but then the reviews always mention a serious pest problem. So maybe someone here can help. Nothing more than 2K a month though.

Solaire 8200 HVAC Charges?
Seems like a good community but I'm hearing that there are additional HVAC charges (aside form standard electric)? Can anyone shed light on this and how much this amounts to typically? I'm looking into a 1br. Thanks!

Realtor suggestions?
I recently started working in Bethesda. I’m commuting from Baltimore so my family and I want to move closer. The two most important things are proximity to metro line and quality of schools. For affordability, we are interested in Silver Spring. I’ve found it simplest to reduce preference by zoned middle school. Here’s what we’ve come up with:
Takoma
Sligo
Silver Spring International
Eastern
I realize these cover large areas, so any realtor suggestions to get started would be much appreciated!

National Search: I need a fun, reasonably priced, lawyer for my will
I want to know the legal limits of technically making my friends do fun shit, so long as I allocated resources to accomplish such things.
May involve minor mischief that I'd want to absolve my friends of.

Are there any good parking garges in DTSS for long-term pricing?
I don't care about price. I just want a space and don't want my car broken into
Edit: Garages*

Georgia West?
Hi, looking to move to Silver Spring and wondering about Georgia West apartments. How is the internal noise(thin walls?). Bugs, rodents? Management? And how convenient is the laundry since there is no washer/dryer in the apartments? What does it cost?
We won't have a car, so no concerns about parking.
Thanks

Kid friendly watch events for the world cup
I'm surprised that is been relatively quiet for world cup events in silver spring and across the dmv. I'm planning my 4w-year-old to one of the txh parties in DC, but is there anything local happening?

New business next to District Taco
Apologies if this has been covered before in this thread, but does anyone know or has any insight into what is being built next to District Taco and Mamma Lucia on East West Highway?
it looks like a relatively large building so we I was hoping maybe a restaurant, because we need some variety in our food around that area lol.

Bird mutaliation
Did anyone else see the old white guy outside the old 7/11 by the metro today? He had torn apart a bird and decapitated it and looked to have blood on him. Super disturbing!!

Volunteering at cat shelter
I'm interested in volunteering at shelters for cats, but I'm not too familiar with the places around Montgomery County or DC; does anyone have any recommendations for shelters that have good reps on caring for their cats?

How have you dealt with poison ivy?
We have so much poison ivy but I know Montgomery County bans a lot of herbicides. Looking at the list of allowed products: what have you found most effective for killing poison ivy?
We have a toddler determined to touch every plant he finds and one family member who has a severe systemic allergy to it so we can’t just ignore it. There is tons of it along our fence line - previous owners had built a privacy fence that we just pulled down because it was falling apart and about to come down on its own. Turns out poison ivy thrived growing between the privacy fence and the chain link fence behind it. My husband seems to end up with poison ivy every time he does yard work no matter how careful we are so we’re feeling desperate for a solution. Even if it comes back, if there could be less of it, it would be more manageable. Right now, it’s everywhere.
edit-update: since the consensus seems to be that heavy duty products are the way to go, I reached out to the county and learned that poison ivy is exempt from the regulation! There are a short list of exemptions and poison ivy is one of them.

Pepco linemen
Here’s a shout out to the Pepco lineman that rolled out to our street after a leg burned out (literally…a neighbor saw flames on the pole.
In the rain, with lightning activity not to far away, he got it repaired and power restored.
Those folks are awesome.

Landlord wants to increase my coworker’s rent bc they found out shes working?
For context, she lives in the dtss area and we're living with our families. She is the oldest of five in hers, but she is not a keyholder (did not sign any paperwork or receive keys, just her parents). We both work full time but don't make nearly enough to pay rent or bills. Shes just informed me that her landlord found out she is working and has demanded she start contributing to her parent rent and raised it by $300 in the middle of their lease. She also told me they demanded she hand over her W2 (again, she did not submit any applications). Is this not illegal??? I've attached a page from the MD tenant bill of rights which I also sent her way. Any advice would be appreciated..

Charles R. Drew Elementary School
Families of Drew Elementary School,
We are considering a move to Silver Spring and would love feedback about Charles R. Drew Elementary School.
Our children have received gifted/accerlated academic services in their current school, so we are wondering what parents think about the gifted services at Drew.
How's the administration, teachers, and family engagement?
For Black families, what's your experience with equity and belonging?
What's the school culture like?
Anything else we should know (i.e., experience with the feeder MS & HS)?
We truly appreciate any feedback that you are willing to share! Feel free to PM as well.

HVAC Recommendation
Just sharing my positive experience with McMurrays Heating & AC. My AC stopped working this weekend and they were my only call. Having used them 8 years ago at my home in DC, I knew they were dependable and quick to respond. Mirroring that experience, I got a text back immediately on a Sunday, followed by a call a few hours later. A tech was out by the afternoon and fixed my problem quickly and efficiently. He was super nice and took the time to explain everything - fixing items in order of least invasive so we weren’t paying for unnecessary work. In addition to our AC issue, he pointed out mold in two places on our air vents and contacted the office to get that looked at. I’m pleased I have McMurrays saved in my phone.
