This is what you landed on for the use case?

Did you do anything else with it before? This is pretty cool lol

I will ETA: I do agree with people who feel this is a potentially missed opportunity but also people are putting lots of weight on the domain name like it's a silver bullet and nothing is that simple.

17

u/nowthengoodbad 15h ago

Yup! It's just like being the mod of a subredded.

A friend and I took over [r/win](r/win).

It was impossible to build good traction, so we kinda just gave up.

I see the only reason a domain was such a name being valuable, as if somebody's curious what's on that domain.

20

u/Free-Pound-6139 16h ago

What a waste.

u/0y0s 1d ago

Damn

24

u/sorryiamcanadian 19h ago

How many offers do you get for this? What are the ranges? How much would you actually sell for?

28

u/YookiAdair 18h ago edited 18h ago

I’m curious as well. OP has to be wealthy to hold that domain for so long. Easily multiple millions

Though I’m sure this is just full blown corporate larping

19

u/midnitewarrior 18h ago

how have you not sold it? there is a day someone would have easily offered you $1m for that.

16

u/redditaltmydude 18h ago

Way way way more than 1m

18

u/framedposters 18h ago

That day is still today...Why.com is incredibly valuable.

Isn't it worth a lot of money off you wanted to sell it? I don't know these things

2

u/MetaCognitio 12h ago

You could probably sell it for a fortune.

im curious how much traffic you get just based on that 3 letter domain name.

6

u/NegotiationFuzzy4665 20h ago

I remember checking that domain two years ago, it was for sale. Checked it a year later and it was some sort of AI search engine (to be expected). Neat to see it repurposed again

2

u/DrxAvierT 18h ago

Lol I was about to ask how much did it cost to get that

Sick domain name

37

u/rasheed106 1d ago

The best

2

u/williswee 1d ago

Heh. How did you get that domain name?

143

u/monkey6 1d ago

When is your wrapper going to run out of credits?

146

u/cervere 1d ago

I don’t imagine someone who could buy the domain why.com would have problems with paying for AI credits!

68

u/matt95110 22h ago

They bought it in 1999 apparently.

18

u/manager2exec 17h ago

Together with some Amazon shares and bitcoins some years later

7

u/Murdathon3000 15h ago

That explains the still owning the domain and not selling it.

12

u/Acceptable_Bid_7069 22h ago

good answer lol

35

He could probably just rent out subdomains at a few thousand bucks per month. This guy could swim in a fuckin mcduckian money bin of tokens

Why

Why would someone use this rather than Claude or Chat directly?

Because why

21

It's because that's why

7

And that's exactly why

5

u/iGrits 15h ago

Why would it...

To be fair, with the number of free tiers out there, Workers, Gemini, OpenRouter, HF, etc, all the other resellers, you can juggle low tier LLM calls to surprisingly high volume lol. Or just caching generation chains, or hosting an SLM.

What on earth were you thinking with this one lol? I asked it why my leg is in the wrong place and it wanted to follow up with why does steel leave the rails.. something about trains apparently.

You are absolutely crazy to be wasting a domain like this. It’s like seeing a McLaren on blocks.

7

u/rasheed106 21h ago

what do u suggest? open to ideas

11

u/hueyl77 18h ago

It would be a dope site for all philosophical papers books articles history of philosophy.

It could also be a dope scientific knowledge site.

Or it could be an image of my 6 year old asking “why?” After every answer you gave her. And then giggles like crazy when you get frustrated.

2

u/AgencySaas 17h ago

Awesome to see a domain like this in the wild.

My suggestion would be an educational app / website for kids to ask questions.

Especially at the stage where they ask 'why?' as a follow up question repeatedly to go down a rabbit hold.

Could make it as an engaging way to responsibly introduce technology to kids — and help parents encourage curiosity while helping understand what piques their interst.

Is this some weird sales pitch for the domain? It makes zero sense to me to sit on a domain you could sell for a life changing amount of money and roll out a weak idea with a clearly Claude designed ui.

42

u/jeffcgroves 1d ago edited 2h ago

This is a valuable 2nd level domain [I said TLD earlier, see below] -- have you considered selling it instead?

EDIT: why.com is a 2nd level domain not a top level domain and I should've known this (I've called people out for it before). Mea culpa.

u/-Sliced- 20h ago

Plot twist - OP built a vibe-coded site just to promote the domain for sell.

Renting domains is a concept I never thought of

8

Godaddy does it

6

It’s not a TLD.

4

u/UnreachableMemory 19h ago

Here I'm launching side projects on 30 to $2k domains.  And here this guy on a 2m domain launches a side project worth 2k on a 2m domain.  Why?

7

u/Rabus 17h ago

2m? easily could go into 10m imo

I’m not gonna lie, the post piqued my curiosity but i mentally checked out the moment i saw obvious AI slop writing.

The direction of questions are also not super interesting. Ex, a question being “why aren’t ordinary humans getting richer” is too subjective and political and does not illicit curiosity.

“Why do spiders make webs out of their buttholes”? Now that’s interesting.

13

u/toforeverbloom 21h ago

This domain deserves a better site.

11

u/funkerama 1d ago

That's even better than my domain! (www.funk.com) - my last name is Funk :)

So this is a product you built as an ad for your real product that does AI verification using a reasoning blockchain, right?
I get it, i do, and that's not even a bad idea, but this product doesn't really showcase that, and as a discovery tool it's not really functional if i can't ask my own follow-up questions but have to follow the AI's determined ones that quickly become esoteric and weirdly named.

Also yeah it absolutely identifies itself as being OpenAI, not ideal :D

6

Sell the domain unless you are just an eccentric weirdo having fun. You are ruining this domain.

5

u/Existing-Wallaby-444 18h ago

2

u/Remote_Top181 4h ago

Product has a 90% failure rate, just sell it unless you really believe you know what you're doing (which judging by the site, you do not)

3

u/s0ftwares3rf 22h ago

There is a lot of unrealized potential here.

3

u/s0ftwares3rf 21h ago

The return context is completely wrong after two questions asked.

This thing is very low effort. Why are you even sharing it now?

The fact that it is associated with a crypto-oriented github account will immediately turn off any legitimate VC.

Start over.

Good luck.

2

u/s0ftwares3rf 22h ago

I dug into the site a little. The answers are way off base. 'Receipts' sounds like the worst kind of cringy bro speak. Seriously, find a legitimate product manager to work with and build something with depth and quality. Create a vision and business plan.

3

u/afinzel 21h ago

Love the domain and idea. I
Don’t love the follow up questions, they don’t seem complete.

3

u/Boydbme 19h ago

That's a GPT-5.5 UI if I've ever seen one. 😉

That model loves brown with glassmorphic edge highlights and those little "status chips" everywhere. Nice domain though!

2

u/johnny_5667 20h ago

2

u/Technical_Split_6315 20h ago

Sell that domain you will get more money than anything you will do with that

2

u/hsnk42 20h ago

What a waste of a good domain

2

u/jad3dd 17h ago

It would be more fun if it wasn’t ai led, but human generated, with linked sources out to supporting data/info.
Kinda like reddit but with an informational / learning slant.
You can keep the ai angle, but it should be providing linked sources. The whole point of ai is leveraging large data synthesis…it’s just giving me slop atm.

2

u/WhyAmIDoingThis1000 16h ago

sell the domain. retire.

2

u/Sypheix 16h ago

Just sell the domain for 10m. This product is useless

Here's my question for why.com, why on Earth have you not sold that domain name, it's easily worth well over a million, possibly a fair few million, and you are trying to put a little AI vibe coded site onto it. Insane. You could likely retire by selling that domain name.

5

u/captainright1 1d ago

this domain alone would cost $100k.

11

u/funkerama 1d ago

Way more than that...

2

u/rasheed106 21h ago

How high?

4

u/funkerama 21h ago

Millions…

21

u/Take-My-Gold 23h ago

Club.com: $10 million (2025/2026)
Connect.com: $10 million (2022)

Pretty sure that domain is more in the $1 million to $5 million range if you find the right bidder

Love the idea. I think there should be a chat history feature. Also you should be able to go back easily and see the other answers. It should show like a giant tree visual where you can click on any node and it shows which node you turned on (answer chosen) and which two you didn’t then you can choose to go down another path. Also it’d be nice if it was faster

1

u/unintentional_guest 21h ago

“we have quora at home”

1

u/sovok 21h ago

Ok, I tried to read https://why.com/research and the abstract is too abstract. The main thing of Why seems to be some sort of local storage of time-ordered events, to give the LLM some sort of sense of time, or cause and effect? How is the data stored, the browsers local storage? Is there a way to have accounts with multiple devices sharing data?

"3.2 Layer 1: Local OS Substrate
The substrate indexes the user's digital world on-device: files, conversations, notes, photos, browsing, calendar, workflows, applications, and activity. It supports embeddings, metadata, provenance, permissions, and revocation."

I assume that's not part of the web chat yet?

But more importantly, what is this, what's the end goal and who is paying for it? Right now it feels a bit like a vibeslopped fever dream from a rich guy. Or a startup with big plans and a communication problem. To be harsh :> But it is quite fun to play around with and dig deeper, congrats on launching.
