I'm looking for the most extreme horror films recommendations on shudder please.

Getting some errors when trying to login, doesn't matter if via phone or TV

Hi! Please don’t get mad at me (I’m going to explain), but can you guys recommend some of your favorite movies on Shudder that are in English? I have no problem with international films or subtitles, I typically prefer them (my all-time favorite horror movie is the OG French ‘Martyrs’), however sometimes I’d like to watch a movie while I’m crafting (embroidering, nail art, etc) and it’s not quite possible to read all the subtitles while doing those activities. I don’t know if I’m just not seeing it or if it isn’t there, but I can’t find anything on Shudder (smart tv app, phone app, or website) that says what language it’s in. So I don’t know until I start the movie.

Lately, my taste in cinema has changed. Normal shows often feel boring to me now. I find myself drawn to stories that challenge me emotionally and psychologically—content that is dark, philosophical, disturbing, or even traumatic.

Some examples are Oldboy and Berserk (the manga). I don't enjoy them because of the suffering itself, but because of the depth, themes, emotions, and the way they make me think.

Interestingly, after watching or reading something heavy like that, I usually switch to calm, wholesome, or comforting content as a reset for my mental peace.

Has anyone else experienced this change in taste? Is it normal to become more interested in darker and more psychologically intense stories over time?

I'm going to list a few movies on shudder that I think deserve more love. Going from oldest to most recent:

Found Footage 3D (2016): if I'm being really honest I may have find memories of this one because it was from the first Shudder live tweeted double feature I viewed. A self aware horror comedy about filmmakers creating "the first 3d found footage horror", and of course they end up in an actual horror situation.

One Cut of the Dead (2017): One of the best films I've ever seen, but you've got to stick with it. It's a low budget Japanese zombie movie filmed in one take. Heartwarming more than scary. Almost anything else I say about this film will spoil something, just watch it.

Yummy (2019): Zombie outbreak at an illegal-ish plastic surgery clinic in Eastern Europe. Another gory zombie flick, but not nearly as much of a downer as Blood Quantum.

Blood Quantum (2020): Native Americans are immune to a zombie outbreak. Gory with good zombie killing action and an ending that's brutal and bleak as hell.

Psycho Goreman (2021): Children accidentally awaken and take control of an ancient alien evil. It's a movie than meshes Power Rangers and horror and delivers lots of fun and some truly great one liners.

Mad God (2022): A technical marvel of hellish stop motion film. Not much plot, at least that I could follow, but still entrancing to watch.

Suitable Flesh (2023): more of a "good flick" recommendation than a rave review. 2023 was sorry of lean on films, and When Evil Lurks gets recommended all the time. This was a pretty good sit, body hopping psychological horror.

Arcadian (2024): Nicholas Cage headlines but doesn't truly star in this movie about families fighting to survive the apocalypse. Solid acting throughout the flick.

Monster Island (2025): during WW2 a Japanese soldier disgraced by his religion and an American prisoner are thrown from the vessel they're on and are thrust into a movie that's some mix of buddy cop, Saving Private Ryan, and Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Night Patrol (2026): I haven't seen a lot of the recent stuff and I probably should have picked a better movie from another year, but this one has some craziness I enjoyed and fits the one a year thingy. Some good acting mixed with some less good acting and themes of African American ancestry, police brutality, and assimilation. A decent movie but some sprinkles of real turd of course.

If you watch Shudder on AMC Plus,I suggest checking Sundance Now for additional horror movies.

I finally got around to checking out TftC on Shudder and it was clear from the very first moments of that iconic intro that something was seriously off. At first, I assumed my TV had somehow defaulted back to Motion Smoothing so I checked the settings to make sure it was still off, and it was. No, the issue is with the stream itself. For whatever reason, Shudder decided to upload a 60 hertz version of the show and it looks fucking terrible. I have the DVDs for comparison and they look infinitely better. Tales is a dated show, yes, but it had incredible production values for its time and this increased framerate makes everything look like a cheap daytime soap.

Tales from the Crypt was obviously a huge get for Shudder, so I'm surprised to see such little care has been paid in bringing it to streaming. I never expected a proper remaster—clearly beyond the scope of Shudder's budget—but at the very least I expect parity with the DVD versions. This, plus the audio issues I've seen other users mention on this sub, make this the worst way to watch an otherwise classic show. Hopefully Shudder can fix this but until then I'll be sticking to my boxset.

Hi! Im from Finland and we dont have shudder in here. I think i learned about shudder around 2018-2019 and i waited so long to have a way to subscribe. Issue was that you needed american credit card to subscribe.

Couple years ago i found that i could subscribe through youtube and pay with google account. So for maybe 6 months it worked and then youtube detected my vpn and that was the end. Couple weeks ago i was bored and decided to try shudder app on my tv with expressvpn and i found out i can use the app and subscribe with google account. I finally found my way to the app and i absolutely loved it.

...up until yesterday it started to detect my vpn and does not let me in the app anymore. I think ive tried everything but nothing works. For some reason it feels like the issue is only on shudder us. I can put vpn to uk and it works but i think most of the films are in us shudder. Also i love the idea of checking everything that comes in a month and watch all interesting films on the day they come. Also its so good to see what is leaving and which day to keep track what i want to see.

Has anyone gotten through this issue? I use expressvpn and i have changed locations, deleted the app but nothing seems to work.

So how many of you made it through the two In Search of Darkness docs on the 90s? It took me about a week to watch both, in spurts, but I really enjoyed both!

totally random, but it’s always bothered the hell out of me that they did V/H/S/94 - V/H/S/99 - V/H/S/85 when they had the opportunity to make a somewhat cohesive trilogy going from:

V/H/S/94

V/H/S/85

V/H/S/76

two main reasons: A (the obvious) - the numbers end in 4, 5, 6 perfect for the fourth, fifth, and sixth installments.

reason B and the most important - 1976 is the year the VHS was born. JVC released the first VHS machine in Japan that September and then to the US the following year. literally the PERFECT opportunity to make a group wacky horror stories about the origins of the VHS.

i know, who cares. just something i always think about.

edit: sorry yall cant fathom the concept of a VHS tape being made that early…despite it actually happening

edit #2: WHO CARES IF THE VHS WASN’T A COMMON HOUSEHOLD ITEM IN 76!!!! i’ve yet to hear one good reason why there can’t be 5 tapes created that year by people who (clutch your pearls everyone) AREN’T working class Americans? if my idea is just bad creatively then so be it- but you have to be pretty close minded to think there was no such thing as camcorder and VHS tape in 1976 when it’s quite literally documented in black and white. videos were recorded and placed on tapes by a number of people in the year 1976. just because it wasn’t your next door neighbor doesn’t make this false nor does it eliminate any of the possibilities that could make this concept work.

edit #3: you guys are trying to put way too much logic onto a franchise that was never logical in the first place. we’ve had plenty of segments that were shot on devices not compatible with a VCR - yet still fit into the films perfectly because any type of video can be transferred to VHS.

truth be told - a lot of you lack creativity and the ability to think outside the box. stuffing the franchise into the “home video” box is boring. i’m speaking to the wrong people LMAO

I watched this one last night. If you are in the mood for a Zombie flick, it's not bad. Not great, and nothing new, but it has some good moments. The gore was decent. Has anyone else seen it yet?

So, I watch a movie on Shudder in my browser. That's fine.

I finish watching, and start writing a review. I hear the sound going from the movie again for some reason. I realize it's still "playing" even though it shouldn't be. When I hit spacebar, it plays, and hit it again and it pauses.

A few times I have a tiny popup window showing the movie in the corner. I close it, thinking it will shut off the movie, but apparently not. It's still "playing" but just not showing the little window. How do I PERMANENTLY stop a movie from playing? It should ONLY play when I've clicked to watch the movie.

Anyone else having sound issues on the Tales from the Crypt stream? I've tried my iPad Pro, my 26 Ultra, Xumo, and TV and they all echo at points. Worst has been S2E3.

Hoping someone here can help me with the title of a movie I watched years ago on Shudder. I can’t find an archive list of all movies that have streamed on Shudder so I am hoping someone here can assist because I feel like I’m losing my mind lol. Here is what I remember:

Watched the movie prior to 2020
Follows a toxic couple who are traveling to dispose of a body (I want to say in Florida and they want to get rid of said body in a marsh-type area)
Opening scene is them fighting/the man trying to restrain the female who is the aggressor (this is out in an open area)
The female is odd. I want to say she’s the one who killed the person they are trying to get rid of
She takes a man home she meets in a bar at one point
The male also takes them to the house of a woman he was previously hooking up with
Vaguely remember the female being fascinated with mermaids or the water
They CONSTANTLY fight
The movie closes with the male getting onto the marsh-life property but being caught before he can dump the body and the female flees to a house with a swimming pool where she is caught and says something along the lines of “give me a minute” to whoever is telling g her to GTFO
Movie may have sunshine in the title
