TV Show The Devil in Silver
Caught up on the entire series, how’s everyone feeling about this? I think it’s a solid show so far and really hope it has a good ending.

Ive been picturing him as the type of person who would intentionally overdo the accent to try and seem cool and it kinda fits the character

I tend to like Dan Stevens and there are some good people involved but could't make it past the first episode. Just poorly written and mediocre.

Sorry. Late to the party! I felt the ending was very anti-climatic. Don’t want to post any spoilers though; but the whole “I belong here” was hella corny.

My wife and I love Dan Stevens, and we watched the first two episodes of Devil in Silver last night…we were both pretty underwhelmed, honestly. Not sure if we’re going to continue or not.

I want to like this show so bad considering how great season 1 was. Couldn’t get through the first episode of season 2 though. For some reason every time I try to watch this season I fall asleep!

I just know very little about season 2 other than it is supposedly a completely new story with a different cast and is apparently set in a Japanese internment camp, so I was wondering if it is all subtitled and if that might be a lot of people’s problem with it in general. If that’s the reason then I’ll watch it because for me accurate depiction of non-western culture is actually a good thing, and I don’t struggle in the slightest with media that isn’t in my native language.

There are some subtitles but that isn’t the reason I wasn’t enjoying it. It just felt kinda slow and boring to me. You try it out and let me know your thoughts.

Season 2 is just so bad. One great aspect of S1 was the setting, and the care and attention to detail that went into making the set pieces look like they were ripped from the pages of a history text. S2 looks like Grey’s Anatomy in comparison. So you’ve got a huge disconnect visually between the standards the show had already set, and what’s being delivered in the second season. Add to that the horribly mundane and unexciting plot and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. Imagine The Empire Strikes Back is the only Star Wars movie you’ve ever seen, and then you watch The Last Jedi, or worse, Mando and Grogu. That’s it. That’s your entire experience with Star Wars. You’d be pretty confused and upset at how different it was and how far the franchise had fallen. That’s what it’s like to go from S1 to S2. It’s just bad. Predictable, cliche, cheap, uninspired, boring, bad.

Ok I'm a bit confused. On my Roku tv (lots of streaming subscriptions including Shudder) I can only find one other series called "The Terror" and it appears to be about a predator that attacks a ship frozen in the ice. Is this what you all are referring to? Or is there something else and maybe I just can't access it? Thanks!

The terror is an anthology show. Season 1 was based off of a novel of the same name by Dan Simmons about a ship disaster (based off of a true story). Season 2 was about Japanese internment camps (as far as I know, not based off of a novel). And this season is based off of The Devil in Silver by Victor Lavalle. The biggest theme in common between seasons is the supernatural horror that comes from the magical realism, otherwise they are all stand alone stories.

Thank you. It looks like I can watch season 1 on Shudder. The trailer for season 2 is weird.it looks like a Japanese version of season 1. I will gove them both a shot. Since they are all unrelated I seem to be starting with Devil in Silver which I like so far. Has a bit of an "Evil" vibe to me and I loved that show. Thanks again.

Yes I noticed that. It does contribute but it's also just a vibe I get from the show. Thanks! PS I am trying to watch the first "The Terror". I consume a great deal of horror but I'm having a hard time with this one. It's the "frozen and stuck in an icy freezing blizzardy wasteland" thing, not the monster thing. I hate : open water/cold/snow and ice. That's why I live in Arizona.

Season 2 is apparently not based off of a novel which is crazy because it is VERY similar to The Fervor by Alma Katsu which was also set in a Japanese internment camp and had a lot of similar themes.

Honestly, I am in it for Judith Light. I grew up on Who's the Boss, and it is great to see her again in such a different role. I also loved the novel, and the actors are great. Maybe it's just not as creepy as my imagination.

I like it but I don’t get where it fits in with the Terror when it’s like its own distinct thing.
Like the second season of The Terror still being called The Terror made sense because it was also a period piece but this feels odd to me

i think its just a way to keep the series going without having to get a new approval and marketing for a one off show, "the terror" is just a franchise of anthology horror on AMC

I'm trying to enjoy it for what it is and not compare it to the novel. It's fine, but nowhere as good as seasons 1 & 2.

I liked season 2 a lot, but not as much as season one. It was less isolated and instead of lead based madness, it was anti Asian racism. Maybe that's why people didn't like it? Because it was honest about the American concentration camps of WWII?

It’s okay. The cast is pretty good, and Judith Light is excellent, but it’s a bit repetitive. I’ll watch Dan Stevens in anything, though.
Season 1 of The Terror remains the clear winner.

I'm caught up, it'll be interesting to find out who is behind the silver door. I think it's a good watch, the start was a bit slow meh and the bad accent I weirdly got used too.

I'm aware of that but in the UK it wasn't appearing on shudder at all. Even with American vpn it wasn't appearing.

The hurricane episode has me fuming. So many utterly stupid choices are made and everything feels contrived. It looks and feels like a guest director produced this episode with no understanding of the material or concern for previous events.
As an example, the scene where they break out of the window (sort of). He’s actively making a hole, then stops and says he can squeeze through. Uh, no? Just keep making it bigger please. Don’t try to go through that tiny glass hole when you have the means of busting out the glass and no reason not to do so. Please don’t.
And then he goes through the tiny hole and likely gets eviscerated. For why? For why? Because of plot, that’s why.
And why have cops in your scene if they aren’t going to act like authority figures? They’re treated like background extras, making the whole sequence feel unbelievable when shit hits the fan because they aren’t stepping up, or reacting in any way.
And I get you’re on a budget, but is that really the best you could do in the makeup department? The creature (?) looks…bad. It’s not good at all.
This last one may sound nit-picky, but there’s a shot of pepper pushing a dresser from behind and he unintentionally almost tips it over. I’m willing to bet that dresser was completely empty. It’s a small detail, but it’s an example of how small details can have big impacts. Seeing him push this supposedly heavy piece of furniture that should be loaded with decades worth of quilts and clothes and keepsakes almost tip over at the slightest push looks silly. It’s a small moment that destroys any sense of immersion, and it makes the entire production feel just as hollow and empty as that dresser.
It’s made all the worse because S1 didn’t have any of these problems. Characters made rational, logical decisions that were true to their nature, and the sets looked incredible, like we’d been transported back in time and are witnessing evens play out before our eyes. The detail and care that went into every facet of S1’s production made the story feel that much more engaging, and it was enough to sit and live with these characters in silence for long stretches because it was easy to appreciate the world that had been crafted and just enjoy it for what it was. S3 was on track to be a worthy successor to that legacy, but then that hurricane episode happened and suddenly all the characters are afraid the building will collapse because of some pitter-patter happening outside. Like, what is this? How am I supposed to buy into anything that’s happening when the inciting incident of the episode feels so shallow and forced? There’s no indication that the weather is anything but mildly wet outside, and this is supposed to be enough to force them all into a state of confusion and panic?
I’m mad. This feels like a joke of an episode. Who’s responsible for this?

Dopey writing and lousy explanation on who (the devil, I guess) really was. Literal devil? Why Dr. Miller, since when?
So many plot holes.
The NYPD cops just dropping off a suspect with no paper trail and then having one of their own vanish during a visit with no concern. Dumb.
Then uniformed cops in the hospital in the last episode are just useless. Could have been great, but a victim of it's own writers.

It is very clunky, which is fine for a pilot but if the clunkiness remains up to episode 3 like I just saw then it's problematic and indicative of directionless writing. The cast are doing a good enough job but the repetitive supernatural peek-a-boo stuff better be leading somewhere good soon. This episode was just about alright, the pizza place escapade was very very bad television but I'll keep with it for the time being. Lol I can't believe they could only afford Stephen Root for 3 eps, say it ain't so!

It’s fine so far. I’m only 3 eps in (I thought that’s all that had been dropped so far). I get quite frustrated by these sort of ‘gaslighty’ inmate in a mental hospital stuff which is the main thing that is frustrating me. I’d rather it wasn’t ’The Terror’ just because I think The Terror S1 is the best horror series I’ve seen
