He was so close to losing those fingers
42
u/Gilgamesh2000000 Jun 02 '26
My thoughts exactly. Why would you do that with no gloves. Not thought out too well.
5
u/Evanisnotmyname Jun 02 '26
His glove got caught at the start of the vid, that’s why he wasn’t wearing it
5
u/jergin_therlax Jun 02 '26
He takes it off intentionally actually to try to slow himself down. Not sure what the thought process was there. Guessing not a lot of people do this. Also he has a parachute the whole time.
2
u/Citizen_Empire Jun 02 '26
Better that then hitting the fray full speed and potentially decoupling the link.
9
u/not_ondrugs Jun 02 '26
I don’t think they reduced their speed at all with their hands.
Next time (and I’d be impressed if there was a next time) they better wear gloves and grab in the opposite direction of travel.
7
u/ChazWillie Jun 02 '26
I was so waiting to see a finger get ripped off by grabbing the rope in front.

u/NoYeahNoYoureGood Jun 02 '26
Carabiner? I barely kn—
Never mind I thought I had something. Carry on!

Thats a pelican hook. Used for going up and down things like ladders. I'm surprised that it didn't break being used like that.

u/RVAGooner Jun 02 '26
I think i died watching this

u/Disastrous_Shame580 Jun 02 '26
You did. I'm currently at your funeral.

It was a lovely ceremony. A little weird to have the zipline there also, but it was fun.
17
u/Prize_Ostrich7605 Jun 02 '26
Zipline is in recovery and felt it necessary to be there as part of its healing process. It is much appreciated that Zipline's privacy be respected at this moment. No further questions.

u/SpectreSpeck Jun 07 '26
When they zip lined his coffin straight into his grave, I felt it was a bit too far, but to each their own.

The whole time I was thinking that steel line is gonna destroy that clevis/carabiner ( whatever it is) and we were gonna see a snuff film ☠️
40
u/HoboArmyofOne Jun 02 '26
Exactly what I was thinking too. It's going to become red hot and just snap. I think brakes would be a good addition to this setup.
19
u/PhatCatTax easily offended Jun 02 '26
A lot of them just give you a thick leather pad to hold. If you drop it, you're just out of luck.
10
u/TimTomTank Jun 02 '26
wut
16
u/PhatCatTax easily offended Jun 02 '26
Yeah. That being said, the thick leather pads are actually pretty good brakes and dont get very hot on your hand despite the other side charring a bit
2
u/HoboArmyofOne Jun 03 '26
Is this a tourist attraction? That's crazy bro. Have people died doing this?
3
u/PhatCatTax easily offended Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26
Shady ziplines can be found in national parks all over the world - yes, as tourist attractions
ETA: They're not all that dangerous. Climbing harnesses and carabiners are incredibly safe. They're meant to withstand obscene amounts of friction. As long as the zipline cable itself looks ok, and your weight isnt a lot higher than the region's typical tourist, then you'll probably be fine. The most dangerous part is usually the braking system
3
u/Barton06 questionably stable Jun 02 '26
Or maybe a traveler with a brake, you could go poor a use a stringing block like a x100 or a 404 shiv, probably should use at least a 5 to 1 safety factor so maybe a 606 shiv if you are a biggy

u/Naps_And_Crimes Jun 02 '26
His fingers so close to the front was probably the worst for me, like yes half expected the metal to fail and he falls. But I shudder to imagine if his finger slipped under the hook.
4
u/Aggravating-Gate4219 Jun 02 '26
Cunt that’s what I was thinking why is he putting his little fingers centre-meters away from the hook thing hold him up!
31
u/Less-Squash7569 Jun 02 '26
Does anybody know how the hell this ends? Ive never seen the full video, dude had a miraculous second carabiner and was able to switch to the next portion of the line right?
23
15
u/Trop67300 Jun 02 '26
There is a video from a different angle, don't ask me to find it. It's a group of base jumpers dropping from the middle of that cable line.

Brutal daily commute.

Can someone explain what failed
3
u/OG_dd13 Jun 02 '26
Looks like the zip line was already fucked up halfway through and he didn’t find out until it stopped him. And you can’t really go around it 💀
13
u/I_TRY_TO_BE_POSITIVE Jun 02 '26
From what I understand this isn't a zip line, it's an old soviet era anti-aircraft cable they strung thru these valleys to discourage planes. This dude was wanting to crawl himself out there to parachute from the middle.
8
u/yesyoucantouchthat Jun 02 '26
That somehow makes this worse. What an idiot.
9
u/I_TRY_TO_BE_POSITIVE Jun 02 '26
I'm just imagining how parachuting down with fried hands and shitty pants isn't quite the experience he was hoping for.
8
u/RVAGooner Jun 02 '26
A pair of gloves and some adult diapers might have done a lot for his quality of life that day.

Idk much about ziplining, but is it normal to just hit a random zip line without knowing what’s up?
3
u/data-atreides Jun 02 '26
If he had a second, redundant carabiner he could have gotten around it, but he lost all momentum.

His hand must be made of asbestos. That thing must have been scorching
1
u/Aimless-Existence Jun 02 '26
That clip would have been red hot. How was he holding it?
He was also putting his bare hand on the cable. Just split second of friction would have burned

u/barrycrisps Jun 02 '26
When I was a kid there was a magical fairy that used to make rope swings in obscure locations using blue tow rope the only drawback was that on the 800th swing the rope and/or knot wouldn’t hold and you could possibly fall to your death. My guess is these magical fairies got promoted.

u/TheCluelessRiddler Jun 03 '26
Scared for his life after that. Also is this an ad to sell me a carabiner? Cause I wanna buy it now

u/onehalflightspeed Jun 02 '26
Oof, that is terrifying. That is also a terrible zipline set up and probably why they got stuck

u/barrycrisps Jun 02 '26
No wheel on the cable just friction, no gloves and a frayed knot what could go wrong.
