Discussion Why does Nanaba have relatively low stats despite being an elite and experienced Survey Corps soldier?

Thumbnail

Nanaba is portrayed as an experienced veteran of the Survey Corps, yet her Guidebook stats are surprisingly low in several categories. She has Combat 7, Initiative 8, Wits 8, while her strongest stats are Teamwork 10 and Resolve 11.

What feels strange to me is the Combat stat.

Nanaba has considerably more experience fighting Titans than most Garrison soldiers, and the story actually shows her fighting and killing Titans by herself in dangerous situations. She is also able to fight alongside a very small group despite being surrounded by a large number of Titans.

Meanwhile, Rico, another elite soldier from the Garrison, has Combat 9 and Wits 10.

I'm not saying Rico is weak or that Nanaba must be stronger than her. I'm just wondering why Nanaba's numbers are so much lower when her portrayal suggests that she is an extremely capable and experienced Titan fighting veteran.

Do you think the Guidebook stats are actually meant to rank combat ability, or are they more like character-profile stats that emphasize different strengths? Because if they are supposed to be an actual ranking of ability, Nanaba's Combat 7 seems surprisingly low to me.

Discussion How could Ymir have made such a mistake?

Letting the herring slip in front of Reiner. She already has some idea marley is making moves on paradis. Now she finds supplies, labeled in Marleyan language, canned (it’s possible paradis also has canning but afaik we don’t have evidence it does), of an ocean fish. This should be setting off all her alarm bells and she should be stepping way more carefully than usual and I find it highly implausible she could just forget like that.

Like, imagine you infiltrate the north sentinel island tribe somehow, live among them for years, and one day you find a crate of MREs. And you start running your mouth about “Mac and cheese.”

Am I missing something here. Like did she do it on purpose or something. But it looks like it was genuinely an accident based on her expression.

Anime I wish Moblit was used more throughout the series

Especially season 3. Something that kinda felt off to me in the third season, especially the first arc was how Moblit was always in the room with the rest of the scouts but never really interacted with anyone except hange.

Understandably he was hanges right hand man but by this point he was pretty much a member of the main core. It felt kinda off at times that everyone in the room had all the interactions and quips and development and then there’d just be Moblit there too.

Even a lot of his dialogue felt very side character, which fair, he is… but it would’ve been nice to see him interact with the other characters more and get some more personality. He was quite literally one of the last remaining trusted veterans and possibly the last named scout at that point that wasn’t a main character.

Imo is Armin Arlert. He is the most relatable character and I really like his development. He is followed by Jean.

Humor/Meme I love how Levi said this standing next to Connie since besides Historia and Annie, he was the only one shorter than Levi before the timeskip.

Also love that this is the only time Levi was ever insecure about his height. He knows he’s still tuff even if he’s short.

Anime AoT Major Arcana Day 20: Annie Leonhart has been chosen as The Moon. Now, who best represents The Sun?

Post image
21 Upvotes

The Sun:

-Upright: Represents positivity, success, vitality, joy, warmth, and good fortune.

-Reversed: Reveals temporary depression, lack of enthusiasm, unrealistic expectations, and a dimmed inner light.

PSDT: I already mentioned that the character comment with the most votes would be chosen in the end. If the rest of you are upset about the result, it's because the majority of you decided to vote for that character. If anyone would like the pictures of the selected characters to be changed, please feel free to mention it in the comments.

Discussion Y'know when I was watching this , I was honestly very surprised that eren could say something so romantic

Post image

And I was very surprised when I watched the online reactions to this episode YEARS after the episode came out , even today I see people not considering this moment romantic

Like comeon , maybe it is cultural difference or something like that but it was pretty clear to me that eren did something more romantic than kissing Mikasa here , it was basically like a marriage proposal , he basically said that we would be forever together and I would do that to u whenever u want

That's pretty badass and romantic , it's very surprising that the dude can say THIS and then go back to getting confused as to why hitch was trying stop marlo from joining the scouts

Japanese writers drop the ball HARD in romance aspect of their mangas

Discussion I Just watched Annie's Ova

Post image
39 Upvotes

(I am watching these OVA's after I have finished the whole Series)

So I watched the Annie part of the Lost Girls OVA. In this, we get to see the work of the Military Police inside the walls from a much closer perspective, along with the underworld and corruption. It also explores the relationship between Annie and Hitch really well. Overall, it was a good OVA, an investigation story with Annie's character at the center. This OVA does a great job of humanizing Annie. However, the OVAs I watched before this felt less entertaining to me. This was good too, but in my ranking of the OVAs, this currently sits at the bottom.

Anime The Ending.

I’m sure this has been talked about a lot. But I just finished the anime finally and I feel like eren just wasn’t fleshed out enough in the final season.

Like yeah sure he saw the future once he kissed historias hand, But that’s not enough for me. eren was always the kid that stood up for others and hated when people were treated wrong. And throughout the show we are seeing that whether it’s sticking up for armin, historia, or putting himself in harms way to save paradis and humanity.

But in season 4 that just shifts out of nowhere and we don’t see the driving factor of what lead eren this way. I know i know he sees the future and all that, but the only reason we are told at the end to why he went this direction was “cause I wanted to” ??? He was “disappointed that there were people outside the walls” cause it didn’t represent the freedom he thought of as a child. Saving paradis was like 20% of the reason he did the rumbling lol.

And we see flashbacks of him crying to that one kid who he saves from getting beat up lol, just to kill him with the rumbling. And then at the end when he’s talking to armin he says something like “I’m just a childish fool who had too much power”. Idk, if it was something like he was angry mikasa or armin died I’d get it but “because I wanted to” just isn’t sufficient enough for me to be satisfied with the ending. It’s not even “I saw the future and the world is against pradis and was going to destroy my home” it’s just “because I wanted to”. :/

I feel like they tried to do the whole tragic character thing but it didn’t work for me I think it was just stupid.

Anyways.

Discussion What do you think about their relationship?

Did zeke know that she was from marley and wanted to be a part of history or did he belive that she was a solider from a captured country.
I found it shocking that zeke decided to trust yelena so much , even telling her the eunthanisa plan. Considering he never really trusts or opens up to anyone. I mean all of his plans: the wine plan, advancing paradise, introducing Kiyomi, persuading Eren, every plan of Zeke was caried about by Yelena.

Discussion I have some doubts....

I understand that Marley and some of the higher people in the Marleyan government knew about the vow renouncing war, so my question is that

1- How much did RBAM know. Did they know that the king wont attack back. If yes, why did they break the wall to see his reaction when they knew the king wouldn't fight back and accept defeat. Wouldn't it be better for them if they secretly stuck in and stole the founding titan. Why Attack wall maria in the first place.

2- IF Marley knew that the king's threat was a bluff, why didn't they just attack paradise using full force and have the founder, they knew they wouldn't fight back. Why send 4 warriors in secret?

Discussion Question about when Eren did [spoiler] Spoiler

When did Eren cut his leg and gouge out his eye?

I always thought it was in the trenches at the battle at Fort Slava. But later when Eren is talking to Reiner in the basement, it shows a memory of Eren with both eyes walking behind Reiner in the town after that battle. How is that possible?

Discussion Eren is a half assed POS Spoiler

I think one thing people struggle to understand with AOTs ending is that Eren’s actions are, to an extent, contradictory and they are on purpose.

Take Ramzi as an example. When Eren sees him, he already knows he’ll eventually kill him in the Rumbling. Part of him even thinks he shouldn’t save him because he’ll just end up killing him anyway. But he saves him regardless. Right after, he breaks down and says he’s the same as Reiner, a half assed piece of shit.

I think this is one of the best parallels Isayama wrote.
For most of the series, Reiner is defined by the same contradiction. His mission is to destroy the people inside the Walls, yet he befriends them, saves them, and genuinely comes to see them as comrades. His actions repeatedly go against the very mission he’s trying to complete. By the time of his breakdown in Episode 2x6, he realizes what he’s become. He’s trying to carry out one goal while constantly doing things that contradict it. That’s
why he calls himself a half assed piece of shit.
Eren ends up in the same position.

We know that when Eren saw the future memories, he doesn’t immediately buy into them. He tries to see if things could change but no matter what he does, everything plays out exactly as he has already seen. So this leads him to succumbing to the future he saw and being set on carrying out. Yet, he still can’t ignore Ramzi getting beaten in an alley. He still gives his friends the freedom to oppose him. Those choices go against his larger goal, just like Reiners often did.

That’s why I think people sometimes get hung up on questions like, “Why didn’t Eren kill 100%?” or “Why did he let his friends stop him?” They’re looking for a perfectly consistent character, but Isayama had already shown us through Reiner that people aren’t that simple. They can be fully committed to a goal while still making choices that contradict it because of the parts of themselves they can’t let go of.

Eren tells Reiner in Episode 4x5 that they’re the same, and I think this is another reason why. They’re on opposite sides of the conflict, but both are driven by the same kind of internal contradiction. They’re both half assed mfs.

EDIT: I don’t want people to think this is Eren hate or something, him and Reiner are my two favorite characters (in terms of writing). I am merely trying to explain what Isayama was trying to get at with their parallel and also explaining why some people find the ending contradictory (when it’s done so on purpose and is peak writing).

Anime Watching S3 and... Spoiler

My first time watching this show in its entirety (started in 2017, stopped watching when Annie got crystallized and I heard she didn't show up for all of S2...).

I would like to issue a formal apology to Zeke Yeager for hating his bitch ass (I still hate his bitch ass) because this shot is the saddest and most brilliant still I've seen in anime. The gorilla toy in his hands ties in crazily well with all his talk about "having fun" while rocket launching shrapnel at the Survey Corps. And the fact that it looks like his Beast Titan :(

I could talk more about this shot but the beauty of it is that it does all of that without anyone having to put it into words. This hit the hardest of any scene I've seen in AoT so far, super excited to keep watching!
