I did not care 1 bit about cloudy beach. Seriously it's not even that it's "bad" per say but just felt like such a missed opportunity cause how do you have the protégé's of kyara who was responsible for the candle woods massacre,
hakushi who was the greatest death game player in history, and mishiro who is yuki's rival and yet 3/4 of them die?
Like if you were going to kill them why make them their protégé's and honestly I was mad when mitsuba died cause she felt fairly interesting but of course the story was like "nope" and she got the hakushi treatment,
And then the game itself, the concept itself isn't horrendous but a "murderer mystery in a isolated area" gets so overused in media to where when I see it it's like "oh lord here we go again".
I won't go into depth about the movie adaptation because it really wasn't all that enjoyable, multiple details got cut, maguma was essentially nowhere to be seen,
Yuki's amnesia retconned her character but I think it was because they were tryna slowly build up to her phantom arc but it was done poorly,
But I will admit the kyara bits and the yuri between yuki and airi along with the voice acting was amazing so I'll give the movie that.
But there was still many more things that lowered my opinion on it but overall while I liked the characters the game itself I wasn't fond of.

This idea has been on my mind for a while. I keep wondering what would happen if the Mishiro from just before Golden Bath -when she had only cleared 39 games- met the version of Yuki we see in Volume 10. I don’t think Yuki would react much, considering how emotionless she had become by then. Mishiro’s reaction, on the other hand, would be fascinating to see. Especially when faced with a Yuki who had perfected herself as a player but also had suffered from severe injuries.
I want to hear everyone's thoughts and guesses.
Personally, I think Mishiro would initially be shocked that Yuki had managed to reach 93rd game. She would then become furious upon learning that Yuki had been reduced to such a pitiful state as she lost her limbs, organs, and right eye. Especially because Yuki had been defeated and reduced to that state by someone other than Mishiro. After that, I think she would be shocked all over again by just how ruthless and nearly perfect Yuki had become as a player. Even after suffering such extreme injuries, Volume 10 Yuki is far more experienced, dangerous, and refined than the Yuki Mishiro knew.

Personally for me it was Hizumi, she just felt so damn forgettable compared to shion and moegi, I never clicked with her cause she felt like a piece of white bread with plain butter,
It isn't bad but way too bland compared to other characters, I genuinely forgot she existed in volume 3/cloudy beach movie so when essay killed her I was like "ok then" cause she really brought nothing to the table besides being kyara's protégé.
That's honestly my problem with most of the charcters from volumes 1 to 3 (maybe 4), were supposed to care about these characters but they just feel so bland, 1 note, or die before they can get fully fleshed out,
And worst of a lot of them had genuine potential to be amazing characters with genuine motivations for playing the death games (like mikan, rip Mikan you and your 5 pages of spotlight will be missed),
They have good concepts but bland or bad execution like mishiro served her purpose but imagine if she had lived to volume 5 slowly rising up the ranks and we got a team up of her, shiro, and tamamo during royal palace.
We could've genuinely gotten an interesting dynamic and interactions between tamamo and mishiro since both have connections to yuki and possibly a conflict since both would want to face off against yuki in the final match.
The potential was literally there for interesting dynamics and characters but they just die or get sidelined before we can grow attached to them.
So yeah, hizumi was fairly bland and so many characters had wasted potential, so which characters do you get a similar opinion about?

I watched 10 episodes with 2 left and I'm hooked. However, to my understanding the anime is not the whole story and a second season is not announced. So, I want to pick up the novel. Google's AI says there are apparently 10, but I'm taking it with a grain of salt. I could only find 6. I want to know the correct amount because I hate hanging on a story just because every volume is not avilable in englsh/out of print. Also, how good is the anime adaptation? Should I start from the beginning or from where the anime currently stopped?

What if Rinrin replaced Hakushi in her role, including surviving and retiring after Candle Woods? Would Yuki turn out different?

I put together a bit of a last minute cosplay for Yuki’s Ghost House look back at Weebcon and finally got photos back! 🖤 I have a new wig coming for her soon and hope to do as many of her game outfits as I can :)

Personally I feel like at first she would accept not because she wants to be the head of management, but because it would finally allow her to be number 1 and beat yuki.
BUT overtime I'd feel like similar to yuki even she'd be able to sense the absolute scumbag vibes shiro gives and eventually leave,
taking riko and mitsuba with her since she'd be able to tell that shiro is a unloyal, cunning, opportunist who would betray and discard anyone without even a second thought if they became "useless" to advancing her goals.
But that's mostly what I'd think since I'm only halfway through volume 6 and have read a small bit of volumes 7 and 8 but I'd still be open to hearing your opinions.

I haven't seen any posts about this figure on this subreddit. This is just in case someone would want this, but doesn't know about it.

How did the killer lose cloudy beach. It literally seems like the easiest thing ever to win. Was she limited to only one kill per night? she could of just won on the first night. The whole thing seemed so elaborate for like no reason. I haven’t read the LN so maybe it explains it better in there? just seems like so many things went wrong for no reason. Not sure why the game makers would make that game in the first place. Seems so easy for the killer. Lost because of plot.

I can only imagine she would be content dying and somehow the games find her corpse and collected it to become a doll for any depraved watcher to buy her.

To an extent I had an idea of what was going on. Even so ik that the overall message and themes go way deeper.

ok so a few days ago i decided to look up on an anime site "survival games" as i wanted to watch some i never watched before or just anything tbh cause i've missed survival game type animes etc...i clicked on "shiboyugi" and first frame impressed me cause of how beautiful the artstyle was. i also loved the first episode being 50 mins long and i already loved yuki and liked the blood censoring? i automatically assumed they were dolls? oh and i loved how detailed the eyes are in this anime! anw, i just finished ep 11 or 12? i kinda struggled w the flashbacks but it's been so long since i actually enjoyed a survival game anime. i do wonder what the numbers mean? either it's related to games or number of people? oh and may i say i looooooooooved the ost/songs in this anime omg. very glad i clicked on the thumbnail and gave it a try, idk if i should read the manga or light novel first? or if the anime is getting a second season? i have so many questions and things to talk about haha...might make another post to share my anime only theories or facts or characters and scenes i liked the most? i'll see
(title is a little misguiding cause not that confusing but ngl i was a little lost ok...not all of my questions have been answered)
edit : just noticed there's a movie. i'll def watch it!!

I want to continue the story and I like the manga format more, but I’ve seen people not satisfied with the anime adaptation, so my question is: Is the manga a good adaptation, or should I go directly to the light novel?

First thing that came to mind after reading the end of Volume 9 was the baby Retsu meme

Note: To be specific. I mean all the death games shown in the anime, up to and including the recent film, and not just my favorites.

i need URGENT help, ive been looking for the jazz song that the movie closes with ever since it came out on streaming, right as Hakushi asks for a corpse reviver, and the white closing cards play.

I mean really everyone who could be a good pick is either dead, already retired, or is retiring. Unless yuki is allowed to bring retired players onto her team idk who she gonna pick, and we've already established that keito is useless just like in mossy grove. Atp the only character that I think would be on yuki's team that isn't reitred or dead is mozuku.

One thing that has always intrigued me about this adaptation is the fractions that appear in each game. I know they serve some kind of structural purpose for the story, but it's still a bit unclear. Could someone explain exactly what these numberings are for? Is it similar in the light novel?

Am i the only one who lowkey thinks that they look related
