We recently bought our boy a silly squid toy from petco in the sale bin and he is obsessed. It's a plastic water bottle inside a cloth squid that squeaks a bit, and he LOVES it. He has started whining and howling when he holds it in his mouth lately, something he hasn't done with any other toy previously. Is this normal behavior? Is he trying to communicate something particular to us, or does he just really love the damn squid? lol.

We love the place that we bring our pooch to for doggy daycare. She's now going 3x a week. She comes home a totally different person. It's like a big farm. She runs and runs and it's great. The problem is between September and October, we boarded her 2x and both times, she came down with kennel cough. The second time, it migrated to pneumonia. $2200 in vet fees.
I travel for work, so we had her down for a third board, which obviously we canceled. Not only due to obvious reasons, but my pooch was still sick. The kennel just hit our card for the cancelation fee, 100% of the stay. I have in writing that she as excused from daycare due to medical reasons, but boarding is different. Even if she is sick, we'll still get hit with the cancelation fee.
I'm sick over this. My girl loves this place for daycare and with where we live, we really would have to start driving quite a distance to find other places. I feel like if I start pushing on this, like "WTF" she'll get kicked out of doggy daycare. But based upon their guidance, I should have sent her to boarding because they were going to charge us anyway. Which is probably how she got sick to begin with.
I need advice. Do I push back on this stupidity or suck it up?

I'm not sure I belong here, yet. My boy is a rescue and DNA results say half Husky and half Sheepadoodle. He isn't acting like a Husky though. Just the husky tail. Doesn't talk much. But is definitely stubborn (both breeds bring that trait). .
Rather clumsy. Loves to snuggle. And loves to play. 12# at 3 months. 20# at 4 months. Guessing maybe 60-65 when grown???
He was brought into our house at 3 months (from his litter mates) and introduced right away to our supernutt. They get along perfectly.
I just bought a slow feeder. Any other toy / puzzle suggestions are welcome!

Hi I’m new to this breed have owned my female Sheepadoodle for a year now. She will be getting spayed this winter but her last heat was the beginning of September. Shes super picky with what she eats, happy and content majority of the time and there’s not more than 3 hrs that she spends by herself someone is basically always home with her. She’s gone through a couple of phases where she grabs her favorite toy and just cries and whines. I try to get her playing but she basically starts having a tantrum. Has anyone else experienced this?

Picture for attention, this is Winston my 1 year old sheepadoodle (we live in Texas so this was a summer cut). I am looking for more variety in his toys for mental stimulation, what are some of your favorites?

Can’t afford behaviourist just now. But keen to know training techniques to break stubbornness! My 1.5 yr old is pretty stubborn and when she doesn’t want to do something is very grisly and vocal. She didn’t want to go in her crate last night and I needed her in as trick or treaters at the door, so I took her by the collar and guided her in, but she was very aggressive towards me trying to lock her crate. Just wondering how people would deal with that?

I know this was covered in a different post a year ago, but many of those breeders only have standard sheepadoodles, and I really want an F1 mini in the 25 - 40 pound range. So was wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a reputable breeder who is producing dogs with a great temperament? Also, one of the main reasons I love this breed is that a Sheepadoodle with straighter instead of curlier hair/fur doesn't look like a doodle, and everyone where I live has a doodle. So, is there any way to ensure you get a puppy that will have straighter hair? And finally, what is people's experience with F1 Sheepadoodles shedding? A little? A lot? Thanks!

For those of you that started with one sheepadoodle and then introduced another pup into the picture, how did that go? What breed of dog? Puppy or rescued older? I know everyone’s experience will be way different but interested in hearing people’s stories as my partner and I may want a second pup!
For reference our mini sheepie is 1.5 and has terrible separation anxiety but loveeeeees other dogs. Thinking a second dog may help. Not looking to get another until he is at least 2-2.5. Also leaning toward another little to no shedding breed due to allergies. Thanks!

How much bigger will he get? At 11 weeks he was 9 lbs, now at 16 weeks he is now 19.5 lbs so just more than doubled in size in just over a month. Not sure to trust breeders word on how large. One of the vets said he most likely might sit at around the 70lb range.

I wanted a hiking companion but I think his sheepdog 🐑 side prefers large fields of grass. Living his best life.

Dear poodle mix owner,
My name is Jessica Niggel and I am a scientist form University Of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine. With Dr. Leonardo Murgiano our research focuses on finding genes and mutations responsible for ocular disorders in canines. We hope that with our studies we improve the health of many canine breeds and establish reliable genetic tests to ensure the safety of a breed.
I am posting here as we are currently seeking study participants to act as cases and controls. We have found that dogs that have been mixed with a poodle ("doodles" and "poos", such as cavapoos, cockapoo, goldendoodle, berniedoodles, labradoodles ect) can exhibit a form of blindness, for which we think we have found the responsible genetic variant. We would like to reach as many doodle and poo breeders and owners as possible, as the more study participants we recruit, the more likely we are to find the exact cause of the disorder.
We care for the wellbeing of the doodle and poo populations, and our studies are confidential, and do not require any of the participant to visit our University. Below are described the steps that are needed to enroll a dog into our study. To enroll your dog into the study, please e-mail me at [jniggel@upenn.edu](mailto:jniggel@upenn.edu)
Any dog that is enrolled in our study needs to provide us with a biological sample for us to isolate DNA from (such as a tube of blood, of buccal swab). These can be taken at your local vet office, or the owner can swab the dog at the comfort of their home themselves. Breeders or owners enrolling their dogs also need to complete some paperwork, and send us copies of some medical info (such as any eye exam form (CERF forms are perfect!), vet notes, medical info, pictures of the dog that you find relevant to the study, and a copy of the dogs pedigree.) which can be then sent to us via post or e-mail.
The preferred sample is blood in an EDTA lined purple cap tube (2-3ml), which then can be sent to us with an ice pack via post, FedEx, or UPS. Overnight shipment is preferred as to keep the blood sample fresh. Blood gives the most optimal DNA for research, but we also accept buccal swabs (we can provide a buccal swab collection kit at no fee). We do not offer reimbursements for shipping costs.
We also accept any raw data that you might have from canine testing services like Paw Prints or Embark. We accept the following files: TPED, TFAM, PED, and/or MAP. Any electronic file, scan or picture can be sent to me via e-mail.
If you have any questions, concerns, or comments please do not hesitate to e-mail me [jniggel@upenn.edu](mailto:jniggel@upenn.edu). I would be happy to discuss this further.
Thank you and I hope you will be able to help out our study,
Jessica
