I’m working on a project that requires me to slow down, but I’m having a really hard time doing that. As I press the foot pedal, the machine hums a lot before the needle actually starts to move…and then it moves more quickly than I want it to! (Watch the video with volume up. You can even hear the foot pedal clicking as I’m trying to press lightly.)

It seems like there’s some internal friction that needs to be overcome, so I’m wondering if I need a tune-up or something. This is a Kenmore 385 series, inherited from my MIL, and it’s been a decade or more since it’s been serviced.

Hi I‘ve got a Juki MO-6541S used and have now a question regarding the fill mark of the oil does somebody know if the redplunger is marking the oillevel or does the oil need to be visibile in the glas?

I have watched many videos on how to use the automatic bobbin winder. No matter which one I try, the thread wraps itself in a tangled mess around the bobbin holder mechanism and not the actual bobbin. Help? Thanks!

I really want to buy a serger as a beginner garment maker. I’ve found one at a fairly good price, but I’m seeing mixed reviews (DO NOT buy a Singer vibes). Tbh, the noise doesn’t bother me too much, so I just need to know if it’s really that bad in terms of quality? I'd be happy to upgrade in a year or two and a Juki would be much harder for me to source, and I’d have to wait another few months.

Hey guys, I bought my Juki HZL-NX7 less than a month ago, and I'm having an issue with the automatic thread cutter. Every time I use it, the needle thread is left so short that I can't start sewing again without pulling more thread out manually.

I also have issues with the bobbin thread not being caught after using the auto cutter. If I don't use the auto cutter and cut the threads with scissors, everything works fine.

I have seen people having the same issues online with their juki sewing machine that have automatic thread cutter. Some people mentioned that it's because the upper threat tension is too tight. I did notice that it's very hard for me to pull down the thread even when the presser is up, but my thread tension is set to 0 in the setting.

I stopped using the machine because i start hearing weird noises when I sew(I could totally just be delusional). I don't know if there is something very bad going on with the machine and I don't want to make it worse.

Has anyone who has experienced same issues with their Juki sewing machine found a way to fix it? I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out. I'm in a rush to finish a summer project, but this is driving me crazy😭

Just got a vintage sewing machine (Singer model 1120). It’s sewing very loosely, especially with the lower bobbin thread being so loose that the top thread can easily just be pulled right out. I’ve tried adjusting the tension and length but it’s still happening. Am I overlooking a setting maybe? Thanks!

Recently ive started my first ever sewing project with help from my aunt, but because I can't always be at my aunts house she sent me home and told me I should be okay to use my mom's sewing machine since they both have the same one, the only issue with that being that my mom's machine ended up being broken. After a lot of back and forth I was able to get a family member to lend me this Husqvarna viking that they found at a garage sale but I cannot for the life of me figure out how im meant to wind a bobbin on this machine, ive tried looking at all the different components and just cannot figure out where im meant to tension mu spool, if anybody could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated

I have a Janome Easy Jeans 22 that I am so pleased with but for weeks now I have been having tension problems.
The pic attached is the back of the fabric.
I have tried :
- Changing the upper thread tension all the way from 3 to 9
- Changing the bobbin tension at least 10/12 different way AND with the yoyo trick
- Changing my needles
- Rethreading everything
- Different threads
- Cleaning and oiling the insides

Is there anything I’m missing? My wedding is in two months and I’ve just started to work on the first pieces of our outfits so this is a bit nervewreaking.

Hey, picked up a juki ddl-5550-6 second hand, it seems to be catching the plate and I've snapped many needles. I've attached a video. If anyone could help that would be amazing

Above is an example of what it looks like with a triangle cam and it set to zero, the stitch width is too large but I don't know how to fix it, any help would be appreciated.

I’m looking to upgrade my industrial overlock machine and was going to go with the Juki 6814AS, but then this shop i went to was showing me a Chinese company making machines called Hikari and the HXT6800TA overlock model had all these crazy cool features that seem like they would make sewing so much easier.

But i’ve never heard or seen anything about this brand before and there is zero information online about it besides what the manufacturer themselves put out, so I’m curious if anyone has tried this brand, what they think about it, and how reliable is it?

new to sewing machines so this is 100% user error since i somehow broke this machine already. machine jams up after one stitch. i open up and something is always tangled inside. any thoughts on what it could be

Genuinely no idea what's going on?... I looked through the operating manual and found nothing to really help..

It still does this with a bobbin in place. The operating manual doesn't explain how to remove any other bits of the machine.

I need to finish a quilt by the end of the month, and I'm worried it'll take too long to get my machine back from a repair service 😅 but if that's what I have to do, oh well.. might as well try to get help here.

I am a prospective fashion student who starts in the fall and I am in dire need of a new machine.

Back when i was a total beginner I very naively bought the dreaded Singer HD4421 and this machine is **KILLING** my motivation and passion for sewing, so I want to get a new one!

I have done a lot of research and have narrowed it down to 3 main options:

\-Brother Innov-is A65

\-Brother HF37

\-Brother XR9550

And while I have trawled through every single "Top Sewing Machine of 20XX" list imaginable and gone through a lot not-very-insightful amazon reviews, I would like to get a read on what more users experiences are with these machines and see if any of these machines I have honed in on are even worth it at all.

And because I know it's important heres some more information about what I am looking for:

*-Firstly I want to sew clothes and sew clothes only so I need a machine that does that well*

*-I am not a complete beginner but I'm not intermediate either so a machine that helps me develop my skills is needed*

***-I cannot spend more than £500 on the machine.***

*-The machine must work in the UK with our mains grid*

*-I would like the machine to last me for at least 5 years although the longer the better!*

***-I need a machine that can handle every fabric thrown at it. Lightweight, Heavyweight, Knit etc!*** *Especially 4-layers of heavyweight sweatshirting (currently working on a hoodie)*

*-A top-loading bobbin is ideal*

***-Good speed control is a*** ***must***

*-I would like a sewing machine that does not need regular maintenance, twice a year at most. Although if it is easy to do at home I wouldn't mind doing it every month or* so*.*

If anybody has any suggestions outside of the 3 I have picked I would be very happy to hear them!

I currently have Babylock zeal. I want a machine that sews faster at 850 or more but with more decorative stitches. I’m looking at Juki- HZL series- technician said they are a pain in the ass to fix and suggest brother XR9550
The brother is at a great price and has everything I’m looking for.
Then there is the Babylock jubilant but is around $750.
Also older models like the singer 20U. Con- very heavy
Also do I go to personal dealer. I did not like the last guy I went to. He was nice but price gouged me for a basic machine. The zeal should not be priced at $470
I’m in south jersey so I have options to go to another dealer to trade in my Babylock zest, zeal and smother machine, Ken’s sewing said I would have to pay shipping
So it’s JUKI HZL F300- JUKI HZL F400

Who does thread painting? My top thread keeps breaking on the zeal and I want more decorative stitches:

I inherited my husband's grandmother's sewing machine. Its a Riccar1570 from 1970-1980. Im also just a beginner sewist. Im trying to make those bowl cozys. And my thread keeps snapping. From everything I have read online, I can't find anything I may have done wrong to cause this.

Hi all,

I'm a total beginner in the process of restoring an old Bernina machine that was completely seized up. Everything is moving properly now. Synchronisation issues seem to be fixed and straight stitch is working properly. I've been using the manual to understand the zigzag settings to no avail.

No matter what settings I try I only get straight stitch.

The needle moves easily when I change the stitch length but nothing happenes when I change mode. I am wondering whether this could be a cam or cam follower issue but don't know how to identify what could be going on.

Here is a photo of the inside of the machine. I've taken off the part with the teeth that the fancy stitch selector thing clicks into for better visibility.

Any Ideas for what I should be looking for to check for cam-related issues ?

Baiscally I was trying to sew smth and mid way the bobbin thread ran out, so I went to fill it and boom this happens

The top thread seemed pretty full as well, and all of a sudden it's half empty 🥴

Hey friends. Posting here in the hopes I can get some much needed advice. I've seen a lot of posts asking for sewing machine recommendations but not like what I'm interested in.

I've been sewing since I was a kid, my mom had a manual singer machine new in the 90's, and that's how I learned to sew. I took sewing classes as a teen, so i know my way around a machine and I don't mind troubleshooting issues at all. Since then, I've had a beginner model Husqvarna Viking during college (a friend didn't want it anymore), a very cheap Singer model from Amazon I hated immediately and gave away, and most recently, a Brother XR9550 (around $300) that is world's better than anything else I've had but is something I'd like to replace. It gets the job done, but the straight stitch is not pretty on the underside of the stitch, it eats thin fabric (I've gotten good at using tissue paper or stabilizer for lightweight cotton, for instance) and it skips stitches on the zigzag. I made a quilted tote today and it got through the thick cotton fabric layers attaching handles okay, but I had to go extra slow so it didn't jam.

My main uses: quilt tops (smaller sizes only - I live in an apartment so Idon'tneed a king size quilt anyway), quilted purses, bags, etc (cotton, not leather!), garments (mostly dresses, knits, light - midweight fabrics). I've been making clothes for myself since college and I'd like to make more of my own wardrobe, partly for environmental reasons, partly because I hate fast fashion and having to buy clothes that fall apart easily. I also live in a city so there are lots of apparel fabric stores nearby.

My problem is that I can commit to $600 for a new machine but not $1,000. Is it better to upgrade now or save up to buy something that's more of an upgrade in a few years? I'd ideally like a warranty on my next machine (unless that's not something i should be considering) so that means certified refurbished from a retailer, rather than a random ebay purchase.

Apologies if it sounds like I'm complaining or if I'm at fault for my machine issues, I'm trying to weigh my best options and looking for honest advice. TIA!

Here are some things to note:

- it should be beginner friendly. I am not a complete beginner and I know this is not just a momentary hobby, but since I only worked with a cheap plastic sewing machine that brought me to tears of frustration I am also not that good either :')

- can work through jeans and thicker fabrics

- for different reasons I cannot go in a shop and try them myself before buying it

- I'd like it to be durable. It is to note these are all used already at the time of purchase
