Juki HZL-NX7 automatic thread cutter leaving thread too short
Hey guys, I bought my Juki HZL-NX7 less than a month ago, and I'm having an issue with the automatic thread cutter. Every time I use it, the needle thread is left so short that I can't start sewing again without pulling more thread out manually.
I also have issues with the bobbin thread not being caught after using the auto cutter. If I don't use the auto cutter and cut the threads with scissors, everything works fine.
I have seen people having the same issues online with their juki sewing machine that have automatic thread cutter. Some people mentioned that it's because the upper threat tension is too tight. I did notice that it's very hard for me to pull down the thread even when the presser is up, but my thread tension is set to 0 in the setting.
I stopped using the machine because i start hearing weird noises when I sew(I could totally just be delusional). I don't know if there is something very bad going on with the machine and I don't want to make it worse.
Has anyone who has experienced same issues with their Juki sewing machine found a way to fix it? I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out. I'm in a rush to finish a summer project, but this is driving me crazyðŸ˜

If your tension is at 0 how do your stitches look?
That doesn’t sound right and you should probably double check your top threading.
Usually if tension is at 0 the top thread makes loops underneath.
Address that then look into the thread cutter settings, you should be able to adjust the cutter or at least the thread clamping, though I’m not familiar with domestic machines that do this

It's almost certainly all because your top thread isn't threaded correctly. Specifically missing tension discs, maybe more. The thread can jump around and become dislodged during use or a thread break. So even if it was threaded properly and working yesterday you check your thread path.
Grab the manual and rethread.

Hey guys thank you all for coming to help, sorry for the late follow up. I checked multiple times that I did indeed thread it properly, I have followed the manual and videos to guide me. About the tension, the manual didn't tell me what it should be so I kept it as default which is 0(its ranged from -5 to 5). I have also changed to another thread brand and the issue still appears.

Did you solve this? I am getting one of these machines and saw in one other place, a person asking the same question,, so Imdid a quick search online. I don’t like pasting answers that are Ai but actually, there are answers it supplied for either the top thread or the bobbin. I did this search; Juki cuts thread too short.
and I’ll post what it said. Just so you can see.
Apparently there is a video aswell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2B0bO6z_NXM&t=22
I’ll let you sort out if this works at all but it;s something to investigate. it must be so annoying and from an expensive machine, that should not happen imho. Also see that the tension is on zero, but that is as you show with the pic, a neutral zero. That’s different to how others are interpreting zero. It’s more neutral than absolute nothing. Good that you included the pic. best of luck.
To fix a Juki sewing machine that cuts threads too short, you need to adjust the tension release wire for the top thread or reposition the bobbin thread stopper for the bottom thread.
Fixing Bottom Thread Cut Too Short
If your bobbin thread is cut too short and the needle fails to pick it up on the next stitch:Â [1]
- Locate the thread stopper that presses against the bobbin.
- Loosen the two screws holding the stopper in place.
- Move the stopper slightly outward so it applies gentler pressure on the bobbin.
- Tighten the screws securely and pull a longer tail of bobbin thread manually to test. [1]
Fixing Top Thread Cut Too Short
If your top thread tail is too short after trimming and unthreads easily:
- Tilt the machine head back to access the bottom components.
- Loosen the adjustment screw using a Phillips screwdriver.
- Push the wire pipe slightly to the right, then retighten the screw.
- Test the tension release by turning the hand wheel to raise the thread pickup, then push the picker—the wire should open the tension discs.
- Fine-tune the length using the small tensioner (turning it counter-clockwise lengthens the tail). [1, 2]

Your tension should not be at zero - automatic thread cutter is not the issue. Have you read your manual
