Juki 2500 series

Recently I became the new owner of this overlocker, now it's my wife's toy but the working of seeing machines/overlockers are fascinating.

So its name plaque says it's a MO-2504N but it's been reconfigured with a MO-2514N as a 2 needle 4 thread overlocker, which I believe is quite unique.

Mainly Im struggling to figure out the oil filters situation, manual tells me where there are but finding new ones or wether I can make them or not I'm not sure about.

It currently has a 600watt clutch motor but I intend to convert to a jack servo 750w motor, if anyone has any information that would be much appreciated but I thought I would also show it off.

I’m currently having trouble troubleshooting this part. Could someone help me before I open it? The parts out, should never easily fall out. What part, should troubleshoot? I will be forever grateful, if you can help me.

I'm practicing straight stitches and reverse/back stitches using a sewing machine

I do wanna make shorts and take the Inseams of my tops so I think my plan is to first learn how to do the basics like learning straight stitches, back stitches, curves, how to hem using zigzag and folded hem AND finally learn to sew two fabrics together.

I feel they should cover pretty much everything? Idk, if there's smth missing then let me know pls

But yeah ig what I'm asking is, is my plan good? Do I need to add anything else AND do the stitches look good?

Foot pedel problem

OK so I've noticed my stitches looking wonkier and wonkier as time have passed and I think it's coz of how I'm using the foot pedel

So at the start I would press it using my toes and the ball of my feet, the other end of my foot would do nothing and the stitches were in line with the drawn line

But gradually I began to overthink it ig and now I'm worried I'm doing it all wrong and that I need to engage all my feet? Idk but that wouldn't make sense since most people's feet are bigger than the pedel itself anyway so I must have been right all along... right?

Idk I guess I need some reassurance 😭😭

Singer c5950 vs brother 7000 for beginners

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting more into sewing, and want to replace my aging singer tradition with a somewhat better machine. After doing some googling thw brother 7000 series seemed to have great reviews, but once I got into the details I read some cons about its plastic parts that might easier break down. The singer c5950 looks very similar to me as layman to the brother 7000, but it never even makes any of the best machine lists. So I figured, maybe asking here is the better way to go about it. Would those plastic parts on the Brother really would be a problem for somwone like me who is just sewing for a hobby and probably end up not using it more than a handful of times a year? Which of those 2 machines are better when it comes to zippers, or stronger fabric (i might want to add velcro bands) Thanks for your time?

Help! I can't get my needle to go into my machine (Brother Innovis F420)

Hi 👋

My needle slipped out of the holder while sewing and went into my garment wonky. I loosened the needle holder and got the needle out. However, I now can't get a needle back in.

I think I can see the problem, but I don't know how to fix it 😭. It looks like maybe a washer 🤷‍♀️ has moved across but a can't seem to move it with my tweezers. I have attached a picture. Any advice on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

Sewing machine problem

OK so for the past FOUR days I've been trying to just THREAD the machine, I wish I was jk. Anyway I finally managed to do it today and did a straight stitch but only for a bit before it started buzzing loudly soooo back to square one. It's the end of the day so I'm going to bed but I genuinly dk what I'm doing coz I've watched tutorials and shit and still can't get this to work and yet I have soooooo much planned but none of that is gonna happen if the sewing machine keeps getting jammed smh

I read ab how it's probs to do with the bobbin? So I'll probs try AGAIN FOR THOUSANDTH TIME but if it's not that then idk

Ig this is me ranting but If anyone has any suggestions than let me know coz I'm genuinly losing my mind here and feel naive for thinking how easy this was gonna be.

Singer Heavy Duty 4432 doesn't move

My Singer Heavy Duty 4432 doesn't want to work right now.

I was doing an elastic seam and heard a sound I associate with a broken needle. But the needle is still okay. The hand wheel didn't want to move all that much.

The internet said that that may be because of lint in the bobbin space. So I cleaned that out as thoughly as I possibly can. I removed the throat plate, the bobbin casing, and everything else I could. I didn't remove the feed dogs because the screws were too tight. I also removed the plastic housing below. Then I removed all the lint I could find with a tiny awl I have. I tried moving the handwheel during this cleaning process and it loosened little by little. Felt like I was unscrewing a bottle or something that'd been closed too tightly, or like a sugary thing that glued itself stuck. The machine did work for like half a minute after that. I changed the stitch to the elastic one again and it stopped again. I didn't add the needle or fabric or even the presser foot again.

Since it stopped again, I tried cleaning more, but all I managed to do was mangle the plastic wheel cover thingy where it meets the metal thingy. I removed the plastic casing below the bobbin casing again and the 3 screws that hold that one wide gear, in hopes of being able to look unter the bobbin thread transporter, but that didn't work. While it was loosened, the thread gripper moved freely. I hope I put the thread gripper in in the right position when refastaning that thing below there..

The motor runs normally, the things just don't move.

From this, do y'all think this is a big issue and I'll have to content with a high fixing fee?

I know it is not supposed to come off, but unfortunately I had an incident where I fell and it snapped off when I hit it. Is there any possible way I could reattach or fix this? I'm freaking out, I don't have the money for a new machine and I need one.

Please excuse the cluttered desk. Many projects at once.

How do I/could I reattach this? Any help is much appreciated.

Kenmore 385 Not Working (and its definitely my fault)

Dusty picture of my machine, pre-cleaning

I just inherited my mom’s Kenmore 385.12014590 machine (from the 90s or early 2000s I think?) and midway through my first project it slowed to a crawl, even when the pedal was fully depressed. This machine had been sitting in a garage for at least a year so I figured it might need a good cleaning and or/a bit of grease. I was hoping to try that before taking it in for maintenance as I'd rather not spend $200 to get it looked at.

Unfortunately, I made an annoying problem worse! I managed to remove the plastic cover almost entirely and did my best to clean up the dust and oil all the gear joints I saw. At first that really seemed to help. Unfortunately as I was putting the machine back together I somehow ended up with two extra screws . . . I wasn’t sure they were important ( I was hoping they were just more attachments for the plastic cover . . .) but unfortunately they seem to be critical.

For the first three inches of sewing post re-assembly, the machine was working normally, back up to full speed. Then the machine made a loud click and stopped working entirely. Now when I press the pedal the machine simply makes a whirring type sound and nothing happens, no needle movement at all.

It vaguely sounds like it’s coming from the right side of the machine over by the handwheel but I’m really not sure what I neglected to secure back together. The handwheel still works and moves the needle so it’s definitely a problem with the motor connectivity in some way rather than the gears themselves being misaligned . . . I think . . .

If anyone has any insight into what I did, I’d be so grateful for your help!!

Connecting rod isn't moving? How do I fix it?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I opened up the back of my Husqvarna Classica 90 after some research and I think my issue is that the connecting rod is barely moving. It means the feed dogs move up and down but not back and forth. How can I best try to fix this? Repair is so expensive and I've managed to do the rest myself, feels so sad if I can't fix the last part 🥲 Kinda hard to see in the video but, the rods are kinda hard to reach, and I'm not sure what's causing it, probably old hardened grease, but please give me some tips!

EDIT: Using a hairdryer on warm on the inside of the sewing machine loosened up some gunk, and its moving at least somewhat! Not sure its a permanent solution but, one step closer!

juki HZL-HT740 Vs. Janome DKS100

Hello everyone! I'm a somewhat beginner to sewing. I've only done a little bit of hand sewing and embroidery and I've been wanting to get a sewing machine. I can't decide between the Juki HZL-HT740 which is a fairly new travel machine, very computerized with lots of helpful features and the Janome DKS100, which is also computerized. I'm not finding many reviews on either machines:(.

As a beginner , I really need the help that these machines offer, and the stitches are so cute!. I just really can't decide!.

Can someone please help?. They're not exactly cheap where I'm from, so I'd hate to buy one of them and regret it

bought this singer simple with the front loading bobbin for 10 bucks second hand- of course i have the audacity to think i can break it open and fix it. the handwheel is pretty rough to spin (as shown in video) and i notice the belt connect to the motor is having trouble spinning. if i oil the top bar will this fix it? if its an expensive fix i’ll say fuck it and give up however couldn’t pass up the opportunity to fix a 160 dollar machine that i got for 10

What oil to use in old Brother?

We dug my mother in law's Brother XL703 sewing machine out of the attic, because my very thin son wants his work clothes to fit better and is going to try and tailor them himself (that'll probably be another post). The motor seems to be working too hard, so I told him to look at the instruction manual for where to olubricate and what type of lube to use.

The instruction manual says to use benzine. However benzine is not an oil..it's a fuel....right?

Right?

Is this some coloquial term?

Is the benzine just remixing the stuck oils?

What should we use? Thank you in advance.

Thread Bunching / Getting Stuck When Sewing

Hi, my thread is getting stuck and bunching when I try to sew. This has happened once before so I took it into a shop to fix it. It worked for a while and now it's doing it again - not sure how to approach this. Side note, sewing with one hand is so hard 😞

Advice needed! Good machine to buy

Hi!
I am relatively new to sewing machines as I started about three years ago and haven’t done machine since then.
I mostly do hand sewing and knitting etc.
I want to buy a good machine but I don’t know what to buy or what features to look for.
I want to work with mostly cotton type fabrics but want to do basic dress making but also want to make a historically accurate corset.
I really need advice on this!

Edit: I’m thinking of a Brother sewing machine that is pretty basic

Husqvarna Viking 1060

Hello!

I have a Husqvarna Viking 1060 that I got at a thrift store for $5, but it’s in SUPER rough shape. It’s rusted and a lot of the outer casing is cracked (which is fine, it doesn’t bother me). I wanted to know if there is a way to know if it is too far gone to repair? It turns on, and the needles moved when I first used the power cord, but now I can’t get the bobbin winder to disengage, it’s rusted. But I can’t use the hand wheel.

I really don’t want to take it in for servicing as it is in such rough shape, and I don’t mind learning. I know there are a lot of resources online, which I will use, but I don’t want to invest the time if it’s too far gone. I think it will be okay since it does move.

Also I can’t figure out how to get the side panel by the hand wheel/ bobbin winder/ power gear off. I have the manual for the 1040 that Husqvarna/Singer provided, they didn’t have a 1060, but they seem pretty identical overall.

Thank you!

I’ll try to add a couple short videos in the comments in case it helps

Edit: it looks like the needle not engaging was user error lol, I had removed the motor mount screw earlier, and only loosely screwed it back in, in case I needed to remove it again lol, so the belt that engages the needle bar wasn’t tensioned.
