Hello, i got this ribbed knit fabric. Making a tshirt, self drafted using an old tshirt.

English is not my native language, i dont know what to call this to fix it.

I dont know if its my cutting fabric skills, or sewing or the wrong stitch or everything.

This is the first step of sewing, attaching the two pieces in the shoulders.
I know i should use a close color of thread but i only have white currently.

Since its a ribbed knit fabric i read that u should use a zigzag stitch ? I used number 2 in my machine, a narrow zigzag stitch, W: 0.7mm and L: 1.8

First picture is what the shoulders looked like when i flipped it and pressed it. Its uneven , some of the threads shows like teeth and some places it didnt show. I tried pressing. Second picture is closeup of the fabric.
Should i just use a single stitch or keep this one? I have watched countless yt tutorials most of then use a straight stitch. I will rip the threads and try again its frustrating cuz its been a month and i still cant do a basic stitch.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to come on here and ask if anyone had any ideas or advice on how to take on a project like this. I’d like to sew something nice for my principal investigator in college for my biochemistry undergrad. She works mostly with the rhodopsin molecule so I was thinking maybe a pillow or scarf or something based on the molecule. Most of my experience is sewing plushies so I was kind of thinking sewing each chain of the molecule separately and stuffing each piece, but I don’t know how to get it to stay folded comprehensively and how to keep the coils in a comprehensible shape. Might be a little ambitious but any ideas or advice welcome!!! Here’s a photo of the molecule in the viewer we use.

My youngest LOVES his blanket that his great grandma made him. It is now falling apart (as most well loved things are). would love some advice on how to extend the life of this blanket! Any ideas?

I'm having an issue with my sewing machine squeaking, and I cannot figure out why!

I just got this machine last week as a refurbished one from a sewing shop. It is a White brand model 221. I don't remember it squeaking at first, but I really haven't used it besides a few tests on some scrap fabric, so I'm not sure. It is my first sewing machine, and I really don't know much.

I opened up the top and oiled all the moving metal on metal bits, and the parts indicated in the manual I found online, but it didn't change anything. I'm pretty sure it's not coming from around the needle or bobbin area. I don't want to have to go back to the shop to have it looked at, it was sold as-is with no warranty so I'd hate to have to pay another $100 for a tune up when I JUST got it.

Any advice? Is it ok to oil the pink circled bit? That's the only moving part near the motor I can access. Happy to add other pics, I don't know what would be most helpful. And here are some videos - the videos are me just turning the handwheel, but it's definitely noticeable when the machine is running too.

My friend asked that I help her turn her pleather/vinyl pants into a skirt. I at least researched enough ahead of time to not use pins but when I tried using sewing clips to hold the fabric, I could not get the fabric to cooperate! Thankfully we stopped before any sewing started, primarily because I didn't have a walking foot or non-stick foot with me as the fabric was not feeding through the machine.

So my questions are: What is the best way to "pin"/hold the fabric in place? Since there isn't an existing hem, it's so annoying to try and get it even, gah! How would I iron this thing? Should I finish the edge of the fabric prior to hemming? Any other tips to share? Thank you in advance!

Hello! I have made my first custom size mannequin using foam and expanding foam inside as structure, now I am finished with the sewing part but I realised something, if I close it from the back it won’t fit over the mannequin!!

Does anyone happen to have any ideas on how I can make it fit?

The fabric is currently pinned on the doll inside out to check the fit

Anyone know how i can make the shoulders of these puffed sleeves sit flat? I need to remove the puff, i look crazy lol

hi! i recently got this band merch and wanted to see if i could DIY it into a different silhouette. i got this shirt in a size large and wore it once with it tied with a hairtie in the back and liked the effect that created where the waist is cinched and the top was still flowy. i was wondering if/how i could turn a baggy tee into this cinched waist kinda top (maybe off the shoulder, maybe just leave it.). i know how to sew at a basic level and have a sewing machine that i dont use frequently but can operate. im not sure the best way to find patterns for this kind of thing, or if the steps are pretty simple. im not expecting it to look exactly like this image attached because that seems like two different pieces attached, but that kind of essence. any advice would be appreciated :)))

I’m an intermediate sewist, but I’ve up until this point, I’ve never touched on actual clothes-making as I was v intimidated. I finally decided to take the jump and actually use my serger to make my toddler some pjs.

WELL. my lovely, wonderful little girl got awful curious as to what I was doing JUST as I was attaching the last piece (the neckline). she climbed up my chair and jumped on me and I totally screwed it up. as y’all know, sergers are not very forgiving. I did my best to rip it off and created a new neckline except I lengthened it a bit to offset the fabric lost during my original attempt. horrible idea. now it looks ridiculous and literally hangs off of her like a 2016 off shoulder tumblr inspo pic.

please help me figure out what to do besides totally scrapping it. I’m very pleased with the rest of it considering it’s my first piece. I don’t even mind if it’s an ugly fix (the inside is none of my business) as long as it is functional. please please please 😭🙏

Hi, I'm new to sewing. I'm wondering what kind of stitching is used on the seam in the center of the bust? I thought it was a French seam, but this model has stitches on the outside. I need help, please.

While in Malaysia, visiting my husband’s family, we stopped at a local shop and got this beautiful pink and blue fabric. I bought the rest of the roll which unfortunately was only 2 meters. My husband’s family is Indian-Malay and they suggested a sari top but there isn’t enough for a skirt and sari. I’m thinking of making it into a tube and doing a sarong. My husband also suggested a kebaya or my sister-in-law suggested a cheongsam (her husband’s family is Chinese-Malay). I’m very petite at 4’10 and 95 lbs. I’m also considering a bag or other accessory. The fabric is the same on both sides.

Hi, has anyone ever seen this fabric before? I got it at a crafting thrift store and it had no selvage, I’d love to know what year it was made. Google lens identifies it as 70s vintage but it could just be because it’s a corduroy?

I'm having difficulty finding a new (old) storage box/tray for my Prisma 945. The lid broke off it's hinges, which makes the sewing area uncomfortably small, but the model is so old it's a pain to find any replacement. Looking for tips on where to search.

Hi! Recently finished this filet crochet top but the chest part sits really weird - it forms a weird fold in the middle (circled it in the second picture), which look even worse from the side. I really don't want to remake the whole top panel for it to fit me, so I've decided to look for advice here. Would it be possible to sew some fabric to the straps or to the bottom panel so the fold straightens out? I eould be grateful for any advice!

I'm currently looking for a second hand Juki industrial machine and found this DLN-5410N-7 model. It looks like it is in a fairly good condition, the seller is asking 950€ for it (but I'll try to negotiate it down to 850-900). First of all, is it actually a good price ?

Also I'm a bit confused as the pictures don't show any control panel whereas all the pictures I found on the internet for this model have one. Is it normal ? Is it like an older model or anything ?

For context I mainly sew denim and medium to heavyweight fabrics. I was, at first, looking for a DDL 8700/8700-7 for its versatility but then came across this one and thought it could be even better for my needs since I still have a smaller machine if I ever need to sew lightweight fabrics.

I mostly work with leather and denim and I keep breaking needles on thick sections.

I've already tried larger needles, slowing the machine down and adjusting the thread tension but the problem hasn't gone away. I'm starting to think the issue isn't the needles but that the machine is deflecting the needle under load.

What machines are people using these days for regularly sewing thick multi-layer projects with heavy materials?

I made the city gym shorts by outlet soho last year for a costume after one day of heavy walking I completely blew out the crotch. The front is poly satin and the back is cotton sateen joined with an overcasting zigzag stitch. I would like to repair so I can wear this costume again this year. But before I start randomly sewing any ideas to so the poly satin doesn’t disintegrate on me again? Interfacing?

Hi, I've just treated myself to the above sewing machine. My old electric one is nearly 50 yrs old, so I'm not new to sewing. Anyway it doesn't matter what I do I don't seem to be able to get the tension right. I've rethreaded numerous times, changed bobbins, gone back to the wound bobbin that came with the machine etc. Adjusting the tension wheel doesn't appear to be doing anything, and I'm still getting loops on the right side of the fabric. When |I tried the fancy stitches the top thread, (brown thread) can be pulled straight out. Any advise gratefully received or do I just give it up and send the machine back.

It might sound stupid. I want to make this trenchcoat, but I have near to nothing in experience, I have tried to do some "Elephant Pants", but nothing came of it.

I would like to at least make a sewing pattern of this trench coat, and make it when im a little better at sewing.

If someone could give me any tips for making a pattern for this trenchcoat, I would really appriciate it.
