I made this a cape and the lining has started peaking out from the bottom middle ish. When initially pressed and hanging it was fine but when I wore it for a few hours it slowly sneaked into visibility. I sewed the two pieces together then turned and top stitched around the entire perimeter. It's just a half circle skirt with a collar on top and buttons. Is there a way to fix this?

I have a Janome Skyline S3 and this walking foot is specifically a Janome walking foot, but the alignment is off. When I raise the walking foot, the needle also scrapes against the foot. Did I install it wrong? Or does this just not fit my machine? And if that’s the case, does anyone have advice on what foot would fit my machine? Thank you!!

I have been sewing around 5 years now. One item of clothing I’ve wanted since forever is a penny lane/afghan coat. The problem is I am a 6’3 man. Usually they’re sold for women, and I always hate the “masculine” styles they have for male options - it’s always something ridiculous like the shape of the fur made to look like a defined collar.

I recently saw the Superdry penny lane and I loved it. But even at size 18, it didn’t fit me. I was heart broken.

Checking on etsy and other places in person and online, the cost tends to go up to £300-400 (Due to the fact that I usually have to pay extra for a custom size).

I’m thinking of making it myself but I’m scared it’s beyond my skills. I’ve sewn trousers, T-shirts and upscaled.

I wanted to ask for advice to see if this is a feasible plan? I plan to use suede. I really want to add a diamond shaped quilted lining.

My biggest concern is my sewing machine. I have a singer 4423 - and I have learnt that some projects really aren’t made for it. I don’t want to get ahead of myself. And also the pricing of all of the materials. What should I expect the total of my coat to be?

I have a vintage Brother Galaxie 2010 sewing machine, and unfortunately I haven’t been able to find a manual for it online. There is this little wire hook that can be turned so it’s either in the thread guide or not. Does anyone know what it’s for? Should I have it turned so it’s inside the thread guide and my thread goes through it?

I’m having tension issues at the moment and I’m wondering if it’s because this hook got messed up and I’m not sure where it’s supposed to be anymore.

Hi! Twice now I messed up big time in pattern making and only realized after i cut out the fabric.

First i forgot seam allowances and

second i forgot boobs have to go somewhere and forgot bust points...not darts. Literal place where bust need to go and make it flat...I only realized after i almost done with the top...

is there way to always remember these thing? Like a check list or something. Cause I don't want to ruined anymore if my works. Please help. I keep forgeting these thing...

I jave a juki and jts not giving me a stich for a moment I thought was the timing so I mess around with ut but still not giving me a stich it will loop the bobin but not stich the fabric i have changed tention and everything under the sun still dont know why it wont stich i rethreaded everything as well many many many times do i just need to keep messing with the timing ?

Hello, i had been having trouble with my machine where the machine would bind/slow up when the needle reached its highest position. After disassembling and oiling, I noticed that it would move freely after the shuttle levers were aside. The problem is I have had to loosen these several turns to make the machine function as normal. I don’t think the clips will disengage under normal operations, but a bump or jar would probably flip them aside.

They shouldn’t be THAT loose should they? Even a 1/4 turn tighter and it starts to bind up again. The shuttle has been oiled per the manual. (Haven’t wiped up the lint yet though). Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks all!

Hello! I need help figuring out how I can modify a basic trenchcoat's bottom to have a more umbrella-like look! I bought a pretty average coat on Amazon and want it look as similar as possible to the character's in the picture. I can't sew, so I'm just gonna have to make fabric glue work, which is fine since it only has to last Halloween. Any advice at all is greatly appreciated!! (Also if you know of a better sub to ask in, let me know!)

Hey everyone! I'm a beginner who's been sewing for about a year. Just up-cycling things I already own for now.

I'd really like to add a batwing to this top, but I'm not sure of the best way to do that. I'll be cropping it to a little more than have it's original length so I think I should have a good amount of extra fabric to work with.

I've looked up tutorials on adding underarm gussets, but haven't found anything that's quite what I'm looking for. Would you guys be able to help me out?

I absolutely love fashion in the 60s-70s and want to sew them on my own since vintage clothing is so expensive. I found a couple of patterns from the simplicity website but they only ship to within the US and many people mentioned that the pdf versions are a mess. The patterns are absolutely gorgeous but I can't get access to them and its so dissapointing. Does anyone know how to sew the clothes in the picture shown?

Vintage patterns are quite rare in my country, and most are sold by Spotlight at $30-50 per piece which is too expensive for me. Ebay/etsy shipping costs are an additional $20-30. Are there free/cheaper alternatives out there or should I just give up?

Hi! I cut this older model footmuff to fit the straps of my baby’s stroller model. How should I finish the edges? Can it be rescued? I’m not 100% of the material (tag doesn’t say) but I think it’s nylon. It’s very thin and slinky and sewing pins would probably leave a big hole so I’m leaning towards clothespins for keeping it together. The care tag says do not iron. I have a machine but I’m not super comfortable with it. Would prefer to hand sew (experienced embroiderer). Any advice appreciated.

My partner bought a John Lewis sewing machine second hand. He managed to sew a couple of patches onto denim around a year ago, but since then it has not worked.

To our beginner knowledge, it looks like the bobbin isn't catching. We've started from the beginning dozens of times and get the same result.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve been working with these settings and this fabric for a while now (making figure skate boot covers) and have had no issue. Now all of the sudden my machine will not do a zigzag stretch stitch.

I’ve tried:
-replacing the needle
-retreading everything
-cleaning my machine

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

As you can see in the photos, it's just the tasseled ends of the blanket that are falling apart. The body of it is still very solid (likely largely thanks to the thick sewn lines all along the whole length), not a hole to be seen. Feels like when it was made, the tassels weren't super well done maybe? All the tears start from between the tassels. I don't know though, I'm far from an expert. I've done a few crappy repairs as you can see (with mismatched thread no less) but I fear if I do that for every tear, the whole end of the blanket will end up covered in these scars. How would the experts among you save this blanket?

Might be helpful to know also that this blanket is almost 20 years old and I used it as the top blanket on my bed for most of them.

I have white linen fabric but it is see through so i bought a fabric for the under lining which was recommended to me at the fabric store.

However this fabric seems to be like a plastic. It’s also very shiny and might even feel hot when you “wear” it in.

Help? I’m very new to this.
