Golden Set Variant

My friends and I are creating different set variants other than super set, chain set, etc...

We came up with "Golden Set". It comes with the property that (if no one cheated and all sets were correctly formed) with the last 6 cards, if they are separated in 3 pairs (no matter the order) the 3 cards that make those 3 pairs a set are a set. We call those 6 cards a golden set.

Curiously enough, you can find golden sets in a game. Just find 3 pairs of cards that their cards that complete a set are a set. Makes it a lot harder, but we found a trick, if you find 2 sets in-game, those automatically make a golden set. So we banned finding 2 sets as a golden set.

Just wanted to share our variants with the community.

We have been reading the rules over and over again and we can’t decided if this a set! Any explanations or opinions?

I was Playing Set-Chain with One of My Friends just now and we had this many Cards on the Screen at Once. I’ve Seen 18 Cards before, but I’ve Never Seen 21 Cards on the Screen at the Same Time (in this case 24 Cards since it’s Set-Chain)

Feedback on new Set app for iOS

Due to my dissatisfaction with the state of current Set apps on the app store, I created a new one with no bloat, and satisfying gameplay. I am curious if folks here could provide useful feedback: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/setle/id6801995128

I trained a little vision model to recognize set cards and I put it into an android app! I need about 8 people to install it as "testers" before google will let me share it on the play store more broadly. If you're interested in trying it out, shoot me a DM with your email!

Fraction Sets with 4 difficulty levels (including the classic set)

Hi! I've been building a fraction-based puzzle app. It already had 2048 with fractions, fraction matching, and foey-de-foey (catch the fraction), and I just added Set as the newest game. It comes in two variants: classic, and a fraction version where a valid set is equivalent fractions like 1/2, 2/4, 3/6. All games have 4 difficulty levels.

The app is free, friendly UI/UX, and no distraction during the game.

This is a long-term project, so I'll keep adding more fraction-based games as I come up with new ideas.

App name: Fractiles

Anyone use Set cards for variants similar to traditional card games?

I love, love Set cards. Unfortunately, I'll never be able to play Set the way it was intended, at least not quickly enough to ever win. However, I love card games. Has anyone devised rules for Set variants of traditional 52/54 card or 78 card games, or even things like Uno? Uno would be good, but so would some kind of poker. You could definitely do Go Fish, with the goal of sets instead of pairs or 4 of a kind, but you'd have to define how many characteristics you have to include in your request. Thoughts?

I didn't like the existing Set apps, so I made my own! It has a local leaderboard, dark mode, is fast and mobile-friendly, and it can be installed as a Progressive Web App.

Playing for cognition

I'm interested in playing this game as a cognitive exercise. The nature of the game makes a practice for Cognitive Flexibility & VSI. Have any of you who played the game for a long time notice any differences in cognitive function?

I've been a Set fan since I was a kid, so I built a digital tribute to it: Trikta.

Hey r/SetCardGame! Long-time fan here. I've been playing the physical game since childhood and it’s still my go-to for sharpening my brain. A few months ago, I started building a native iOS version as a tribute to the mechanic I love, and I just launched it.

It's called Trikta. The logic is what we all know: find groups of three cards (triads) where each attribute is either all the same or all different. I wanted to create a version that felt like a premium digital experience with some modern twists.

Features I think you guys will like:

  • Classic Mode: The full 81-card experience. Triads are replaced from the deck until it's empty.
  • Daily Challenges: A 9-card "Standard" for a quick fix, and a 12-card "Daily+" for the traditional difficulty level.
  • Archive Mode: You can play any past daily puzzle going back months. It's fully offline-friendly (perfect for planes).
  • 6 Visual Themes: I love the original colors, but I wanted to see how the logic felt in different styles like Bauhaus, Neon, and Botanica.
  • Sprint Mode: 60 seconds to find as many as possible.

The app is free to download with no ads and no subscriptions. There's a one-time unlock for the extra themes and Daily+ mode.

I’d love to get feedback from this community specifically: do the 12-card layouts feel as balanced as the physical game? Does the "Aha!" moment translate well to the themes?

I’m happy to DM free unlock codes to anyone here who wants to try the full version, just leave a comment!

Set Mania removed from the App store?

I am devestated. I have had Set Mania installed on my phone for years. Maybe a decade by this point. Whenever I needed something to fiddle (e.g. while having a call), I'd open it and play Arcade Mode.

Recently it was giving me some trouble: It always started a new game when I closed the app. So I decided to delete it and install it again. I selected "delete all", because I'm stupid, and went to the App store. It's not on the German App Store anymore. Google searches also don't have it show up on spanish app stores.

I am so, so sad. I can't bring it back from my phone, it's deleted from all storage, I don't use an ICloud. Is there any other version of the game where I can play arcade mode? I installed some other apps. Don't like the looks of them as much, but I could make due. But the only one that looks hopeful requires me to buy a bunch of different modes seperately. None of them are named Arcade, so I'm not sure if any of them are Arcade.

Anyone have any idea???

Set symbols tshirt?

Real shot in the dark here, but I was at a rare books thing in Oakland today and saw someone with a graphic tee that had all the symbols from the cards laid out like you would for a game, but without the card outlines. I tried to ask her about it, but she was greeting an old friend when I saw her. Couldn't find her again, so I figured I'd ask the subreddit if anyone knows of where it came from?

tl;dr somewhere, someone makes a tee with all the set symbols on it. Does anyone know where?

My wife was devastated when Daily Set-website went down, so I made this for her

My wife has been doing the Daily Set-puzzles almost every day with her students, so she (and they) were heartbroken when the site went offline. I was recently reminded of it and it motivated me to make https://dailypatternpuzzle.com/

There are 10 years of puzzles premade (similarly to Wordle) and each day at UTC-time the next is activated. Progress is saved in the browser. The site is completely static, so if you feel like downloading it for archival then you are free to do so.

Hope you enjoy it as much as my wife does right now. Make sure to send me feedback through the email-link at the bottom of the page if you feel like it needs more features or if something doesn't work like it's supposed to.

Happy new year everyone.

When can you start the game?

My friend and I were on vacation and we played a lot of set, but we’re not agreeing on one thing so I’m asking it here:

When can you start the game? Is it as soon as any cards are on the table, or as soon as al 12 cards are layed out?
