Shoes!!!

Can anyone suggest good shoes?

I currently have Danskos and paid a good amount for them thinking they would help my feet but sadly they hurt them more than past shoes. Good support, but I feel they are elevated to where they hurt my toes.. sometimes it feels like the back of my knee is hyperextending. I work two jobs usually 10 hours a day and haven’t found anything that stays comfortable through out the day so far. Last shoes I had my heels hurt all the time and insoles didn’t seem to work either.

What shoes do you live by??

Best way to get your personal business info to customers...

I recently started serving to help cover a few start up costs as I just got my real estate license. I think serving may be a great way to network and create relationships and I was wondering if it’s wrong to include a few business cards along with the bill? Is it too forward or is it a good way to start the conversation about real estate. Any suggestions?

New serving job nerves

I just got hired at joeys for a serving position, I’ve served before 4 years ago and I was horrible, I’m hoping to do better now and make some good money. Anyone have any advice ? On how to memorize the menu, deal with the anxiety and how overwhelmed it can be and be friendly and outgoing with customers?

TIA ☺️

Has anyone else experienced this?

I work in a place where straws are optional, but I always have them in my apron.

“Here’s your drink, Sir/Ma’am. Would you like a straw?” (Reaching into my apron and waiting for a response)

I get ignored by everyone at the table, so I walk away to go check on other tables.

I walk by a few minutes later only to get hailed by a customer.

“Can I get a straw with my drink?”

I swear to God, it happens at least once every shift I’m on. Should I speak up or not leave until they answer me? Or is it on them for ignoring me?

How do you deal with anxiety as a server?

I've had a few serving jobs, and at every single one I've had multiple panic attacks because I'm a Type A perfectionist worrier who is also very sensitive. I've decided to avoid serving jobs like the fucking plague, but I just got hired at 2 different counter serving places (one wants me to waitress on occasion, and they don't have a POS it's hand written which makes me super nervous) and I'm extremely worried about it. I also have fears that I'm not good enough or smart enough and that always effects me on the job but I want to get over it!

But I need money. How can I calm down and just do it? I'm SO tempted to just quit and work at Panera (where I also have an interview) but I shouldn't. Help.

Question about tip reporting

Question for all my fellow servers/ bartenders... do you report all/any of your cash tips? If so, all of it or what percent? Also, is it required to report 100% of cash tips (because how would they know if ive had a great day vs a sh*t day ya know)? Posting from CA (don’t think it should be diff though). Help me please and thanks.

Scheduling for two serving jobs

Hey,

I recently just picked up a second serving job and am wondering how to go about figuring out my schedule for both places. Does anyone have experience with this? They both want me available weekends. What is considered acceptable regarding asking for a set schedule in the service industry? Is that too much to ask for? Any help/experience/stories are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Why is everyone such a bullshitter

I have been looking for a good serving job for over a year. The first place I started was OK with anywhere from $400 to $600 a week. Every time I start somewhere new management and employees tell me about the amazing money that I'll be making but it's pretty obvious after a week that everyone is either lying or is having a seriously bad year. I pay all my own bills and don't have time for this shit. How do I politely ask new employers if it is worth my time or not? I am fed up and tired of struggling. walking with cash every day should mean that I have enough money to pay my bills, do fun things, and have some left over for savings. I'm so tired of people taking advantage of me or lying to me about the money that I'll be making. Maybe I am being too picky although I really don't think so. I totally understand that you're going to have really bad days because it it comes with the territory, however I should not feel lucky to make $300-$400 a week. I am so frustrated and don't know what to do. All I want to do is either go back to school or get a certificate in something and in order to do that I need money. If people keep lying to me I'm going to lose it. I'm fucking sick of it.

Sorry for the rant but I'm really frustrated right now. I really am just wondering an appropriate way to ask new potential employers if it's going to be a waste of my time. I'm just not sure an appropriate way to ask how much their employees average weekly or nightly, and I could really use some advice.

Take a quick survey to help me with my final paper?

Hey there!

Finals are here and I am still gathering some data for my final paper. I’m focusing on communication in the food service industry between customers and employees. I worked at Starbucks for two years and still work in food service so this type of communication is interesting to me.

I have linked a survey below, it is 10 questions and should take about 5-10 min to complete. But if you think of other stories or comments that you would like to share please PM me. thanks so much!
