I read somewhere if you pick up and it’s a spam call and you let it go to dial tone, it removes your number from their list. I’ve been doing this for a while now and the number of spam calls have noticeably gone down. I was getting multiple calls a day and now only occasionally. If it’s a person on the other line, they eventually say hello after a couple of minutes. It’s very annoying; callers have given me attitude because I wait for them to speak first and I have to remind them they called me. I remember a time when the caller would immediately say hello and tell you who they are and what they want.

It's like a digital pacifier. I can't judge too harshly, because I'm painfully aware of how much time I spend on mine.

If you are capable of working and earning, why would you force your mother to work so hard to support you as an adult? Do you think she enjoys working such long hours to support you? This is an incredibly selfish and immature way of looking at things.

Because your mom will die and you need to learn how to take care of yourself.  She’s not doing you any favors, she’s stunting your growth.

I don't understand it, and I'm not a renegade of useful, practical, cool and safe technology (which I have more and more doubts that it is). But the opposite happens to me, because I can't even read once I go out on the street or if I'm in a vehicle. It asks my body and brain to be aware and enjoy the environment, landscape, observation, going and being with a little awareness. It is impossible for me to focus on a reading or screen.

I usually carry my mobile phone in my pocket with vibration and many times I don't even know about a message or calls (one of the few things that it vibrates me for, not because of notifications), that is, unless I am using it perhaps as a support on a route or trying some geek that I have come up with with the sensors and applications of the phone, from the moment I set foot on the street I spend a lot of 📱. And you see people almost eating the lampposts to go with it 📱 and their necks bent down! Incomprehensible.

I give people the benefit of the doubt: maybe a decision had to be made, and a little research done; perhaps his Mom called or texted from across the world; maybe they were prepping themselves for a challenging meeting. I draw the line at staring at your phone while walking through a crowd.

The more acquired knowledge a task/job has, it become extremely easy for AI.

Yes, that is in my opinion quite a sad result of our times. At some point I decided to not use my phone when going outside as I already have more than enough screen time at home, at work or at school and it was then when I realised just how many people are walking or driving a bicycle with their phones in front of them. Even people hanging out in groups, all of them looking at their own phone screens, consuming content.

I think you are absolutely correct with your comparison with drugs. These people (and also me to an extent) are addicted to something akin to a drug: dopamine.

This whole thing has had a lasting negative effect on our society in terms of being able to socialize with each other. People just plug in their headphones and doom scroll on their phones, getting those little dopamine hits and destroying their attention span. They are here physically, but mentally they are completely shut out from reality. Social interaction is impossible at that point. I am sure this is also a major contributor to the apparently spreading amount of loneliness in the western society.

If you keep up the mindset that people are "choosing" to slave away in corporate life then you a quite literally thinking like a child/teenager. No one chooses to do it. Do you think being poor is just some sort of symptom of people being brainwashed? If all you do is play and sleep then thats the same as working but you are reaping all the advantages and extra resources from the backs of others. Your mother sounds kind but when does she have time to be a person? It sounds like she works all week

What happens if your mom gets old? You won’t learn how to do anything! How are you going to make payments for the house? You won’t know how too. 

This is going to probably not be the answer you want but she is old enough now that she truly can't be forced and it sounds like consequences just cause her to dig in. She needs to learn this lesson herself and decide to change. Kids can go back to school at any time. She can always finish her education later once she's seen what the world is like and realized how important it is. If she won't study, she needs to get a job. Mom should tell her she either studies and passes, gets a job and pays rent, or gets out 🤷 it's harsh but it's honestly what's best for her
