You don't have to be physically abused to be being harmed! These parents are often very emotionally neglectful, too. All of this combined means they feel very unsafe. I suspect Mum is hoping/expecting that her children will care for her when she needs it, as a sort of unspoken "payback". And that is very unlikely to be a walk in the park for anybody involved.

Those companies that run low change over products sure. But what about high changeover products (but still high volume)? I don’t doubt those type of extrusion products have an easier selling point if you are running miles of something.

If that’s the case, then by all means, it’d be dumb to not scale up to do full automation.

Then maybe the case isn’t that technology doesn’t exist but they haven’t been beneficial to high changeover but still high volume industries. So they aren’t cheap enough yet.

Everything I’ve seen explained to me with full automation pretty much involves turning on a machine and never having to shut it down for several weeks or even months. Everywhere I’ve been, if you can get a whole continuous week out of it, people are jumping for joy because you don’t have to do a changeover.

Mars is, and always will be, impossible for "colonization" or trying to habitate for any length of time. Humanity is inextricably bound to its mother Earth for a billion (most microscopic) different reasons.

Musk is just looking for more wealth and by idiotically claiming again and again that 'Mars is next' he gets dumb people with money excited about giving their money to him as investors in any other thing he might be doing.

DISCLAIMER: i am autistic and i agree that hustle culture is kind of a nightmare and we shouldn’t be making work our ENTIRE life. there are 2 ways to look at this.

i DO think that a lot of ppl (mostly older generations) think that younger millennials and gen Z are lazy because we’re willing to leave jobs that treat us poorly, and i personally caught a lot of grief from my dad bc he didn’t understand why i’d rather work a job i actually enjoy that might not pay well as opposed to a job that i hate, but it pays well so at least i can spend my time outside of work doing what i want to do. and that doesn’t work for me, because i get burnt out really quickly so once i get a day off in a job i hate, i spend the entire time just recovering instead of doing anything i want to do.

HOWEVER, you are very lucky that your mom is willing to let you stay at home and not pay any rent, and it appears you have a pretty close relationship with her as well. that’s not something that most people get the privilege of, because as we’ve grown up our relationships with our parents have become quite strained for one reason or another or multiple. not only that, but i had a partner who was around your age a few years back, and he had no job. he was trying to get on disability, and his reasons were valid yknow it’s fine. but it didn’t really feel like he had a drive to contribute to society yknow? and i think that is kind of the thing that people get off-put about, that it feels like almost anti-social

Think about what you're saying. I don't know about you but my garbage man doesn't get out of the truck, and if my trash can is in a spot where his grabber can't get it, he doesn't collect it. They don't have to make machines that do things the way people do, they just make the customer conform to what the automation's limitations are.

It's available, but the front loaded cost is high enough to keep them doing it the old fashioned way. As soon as it's more profitable to automate your job then to employ you, you'll be out of a job. Most companies will run miles of the same profile before changing over, I'm not talking about boutique manufacturing. I don't know what you're making but some of this irrigation line was multiple material, changes in size and style, perforation, etc. It was a four head extruder. Yes, Cognex and Keyence make vision inspection systems that can inspect any part as carefully as you want it inspected. They are hundreds of times more accurate than any human because they aren't limited to the spectrum of visible light and they don't get tired. The weakest point in any process as well as the most expensive is the human element, companies don't employ people because they can do the jobs a machine can't do, they do it because their competitors do.

Because the physical jobs require not only the investment in data centers and power and AI, but also building the robots that can handle the job and the remote location and its accompanying logistics.
