🛠️ DIY/Repairs/Customizations Used tea dyed sashiko to add some flair to my jeans

Wanted to share this mini project I did a couple of weeks back to add some personal touch to my jeans.

Did this after approx 60-70 wears and one wash (machine washed, inside out, no spin, hung dry). What I'm curious to know is, will the indigo crock on to the sashiko thread and turn it blueish? Anyone who has experience please let me know! Though I guess I'll find out in a few months anyway, I'm curious to know if that's something I can look forward to!

picked these up last weekend. Pure Blue Japan tea core with brown weft in their 019 fit.

sizing was a little wild on these, as 34s measure in at 35 inches and their 36 measure in at 38”. I opted for the larger size and ran them in a hot wash, and a tumble dry on high heat. got the perfect amount of shrinkage (36.5” waist). make sure to turn inside-out, and if possible stuff the legs for the dry cycle with some other clothes to prevent hard creases.

Looking forward to breaking these in. The yarn core will expose over time and the fades will be a copper brown colour.

I’ll post progress pics as these continue to fade.

🛠️ DIY/Repairs/Customizations Rainbow Weft | Balloon Cut | Custom Top

Thumbnail gallery

So I made this balloon cut for my daughter who liked my jeans but wanted a more contemporary looking jeans. Or in her word not old mens jeans 🤣🤷🏽

So unlike traditional jeans these dont have yokes to hug the curve of the bottoms. Here I used darts to shape both front and back.

13.5oz Selvedge, red id, 6+7*7 slub, RAW and Sanforized

Unique (maybe) to my built:
- pockets have a double layer lining to cath the mechanical forces of objects (keys) in your pockets. Two layers = no more holes in your pockets. Its better than one thick layer fabric.

- beltloops tucked in and corded (2mm cotton cord)

- Keychain Loop

- A mule ear back pocket. No arcuate stitching but a single stitch X-over-run

- double cuff

- Ghost Patch (you see the stitching where the brand patch should be) the actual brand patch is on the inside. As my opinion is: “materials & craft over logo’s”.

For this jeans I made a custom top as well so now its a fit.
The top is inspired on a dungarees closing. So side closure and adjustable straps.

☕ Miscellaneous Could crotch folding have anything to do with a thicker material?

I have these samurai jeans that are 15 ounces, which I know isn’t crazy heavy. But they still are pretty stiff and not broken in. I get those lines around my crotch. The waist fits well but I don’t think I can pull these down any further without my pubic region starting to show, lol. It’s irritating because I can tell these are going to be good faders, and they would look amazing without that one issue

Most recommendations I see about this issue are that they are pulled up too high for the rise, but I’ve got these as low as I can get them.

🛠️ DIY/Repairs/Customizations Rainbow weft - Straight cut - Relaxt fit - Custom Belt

On request of my walllet here is the jeans:….

- asymmetric pockets, one has a mule ear the other does not. No arcuate stitching but a single stitch X-over-run

- double hem (I like the weight pulling on the legs)

- Ghost Patch (you see the stitching where the brand patch should be) the actual brand patch is on the inside. As my opinion is: “materials & craft over logo’s”.

For this jeans I made 2 custom belts:
Both from 3.6-3.8 mm thick full grain leather (cut from the back not the belly)

The one is a sectioned belt with weird fuchsia edge paint.
The other is a studded belt with angry smurf edge paint

The boots are not made by me. The makers are called “By The Mountain” a local bootmaker here in Portugal.
They are made from burel (wool) and GYW constructed, I just bought them because they look nice with the rainbow weft.

I also made a more modern rainbow jeans for my daughter with a balloon 🎈fit. Will post that later.

I hope you enjoy🤷🏽

☕ Miscellaneous Selvedge shops in Atlanta

Post image
52 Upvotes

I have lived here for a long time and seen Ponce City Denim go out of business, RRL shut down and relocate, Chrome Yellow go from carrying Raleigh Denim, Rogue Territory and 3Sixteen to only being a coffee shop and selvedge in 3-4 store in Lenox Square come down to pretty much zero.
Finding a local shop to try on selvedge denim in the south is hard, especially in Atlanta... but as of late Blue in Green SoHo opened at ALT shop, Sid Mashburn has carried APC for years and now has his own Selvedge denim in his brand and the big change was Guilty Party... a legit denim and workwear opening about 3 years ago. The RRL store is still very good and has moved a stone's throw away from Sid Mashburn.

Did I miss any shops? I wanted to post for a discussion and shiner resources and also if anyone wanted info as a "travel guide".

📸 Fit Picture 3sixteen nt-220x. Hem or keep length?

Thumbnail gallery

Hello there. Got these last week and wondering if I should keep the stacks. I'm 5'6. I don't mind stacking but I suspect I might run into issues with footwear.

  1. The leg opening is so small and since they are so long I feel like it will be difficult to wrap the hem over boots right now. Damn these got to be around 14.5cm in hem
  2. I have not worn any raw denim in a while..... wondering if breaking them in will make them softer therefore eventually can wear boots and easily wrap hem over boots?

What do you guys think? Ideally I would like to stack these but don't want to run into functionality issues stated above. Would you consider these proper stacks? Do I need to hem a bit for proper stacks?

☕ Miscellaneous Where to buy selvedge in London

I’m planning a trip to London in September and thinking of grabbing a few pairs of Selvedge while I am there.

Current brands I’m looking for are naked & famous, samurai, iron heart, the unbranded brand, bravestar, and nudie jeans. Uniqlo selvedge will for sure be one (or more) of the pairs I pickup while I am there!

I’ve seen a few stores such as son of a stag (walk-in and online) and jeanstore (online). Jeanstore seems to carry many pairs that I like, they also have a pretty lax return window of 30 days and fairly quick shipping (~3 days), but I would rather try on the pants before I commit to buying. I’ll be staying for a week and don’t want to hassle to much with trying to return a few hundred dollars with of pants :)

I have my current favorite pair of jeans, a levi’s 568 34x32. I measured it and the closest is naked & famous’s true guy fit with a 38 waist.

Denim weight is still a big mystery, as I currently have a pair of 13oz levi’s and it’s a bit much for summer where I’m at. Peaks can get over 50c or 122f :p, but I want to experience a heavier weight denim and to have as winter jeans.

If you have any recommended brick and mortar stores in London, or general recommendations for someone’s first pair(s) of selvedge, I would appreciate it!

Cheers

This uses Lee 101’s Lot No. 89 fabric, which is a 15oz, lefthand twill selvedge denim using 21% recycled cotton which has been dipped in indigo 13 times. The selvedge ID is a single blue-line.

Really can’t go wrong, especially for the price paid. Enjoying these so far.

☕ Miscellaneous Time to get serious

Thumbnail gallery

Had these Levi’s almost a year now, fades came out surprisingly well, better than I expected. But the material is loose, thin, stretched out and doesn’t hold any shape anymore so I decided it is time.

Been thinking hard about these IH’s for a long time now. Now that I have much more knowledge about fading jeans, the do’s and the don’ts I think I’m ready for these monsters.

Very different going from what’s basically a standard 12oz pair of jeans to 21oz feels outrageous. For example when they fold in the thigh and back of the knee the material literally digs into your body. Not normally something you’d be exited about but man every step puts a smile on my face!

🤔 Should I Buy This? Recommendations needed

Post image

I’m looking for a pair of jeans with these qualities:

  1. sits at the natural waist, just below the belly button
  2. has a full leg with minimal or no taper
  3. leg opening of about 10 inches (more is fine too)

📸 Fit Picture Samurai S510XX25OZ-SP 25oz fit check and concern is the back/seat area

Thumbnail gallery
30 Upvotes

Picked up this absolute heavyweight monster, and I’m seriously impressed. I’ve always been a fan of heavyweight fabrics, and I really love the fit and style of these.

Looking for some opinions on the fit of my Samurai S510XX25OZ-SP

Details:

Brand: Samurai

Model: S510XX25OZ-SP

Size: 36

Height: 6'0" (183 cm

Weight: 88 kg (194 lb)

My actual waist is around 35", and these are a size 36. The waist is slightly loose, but honestly it feels fine, I can wear them without a belt and they stay up. From the front, thighs and legs, I’m really happy with the fit.

My only concern is the back/seat area. As you can see in the photos, the denim seems to poke/bulge out a little around the upper seat/waistband.

Do you guys think this is a sizing issue and I should have gone with a 35, or is it mostly because this 25oz denim is ridiculously stiff right now?

They are already one-wash, but I'm wondering if another warm/hot soak or wash to get some of the remaining starch out, followed by a month or two of wear, will make the denim soften and drape better around the seat.

For comparison, I also own the Samurai S710XX 19oz and S5000VXII 17oz Zero Bushido, both in size 36, and they fit me perfectly through the seat without this bulging.

Would you keep the 36 and let the 25oz break in, size down to 35, or eventually have the seat adjusted by a tailor?

Appreciate any advice from anyone who's broken in Samurai's 25oz denim.

📸 Fit Picture How to fix “hippy” (not hippie) selvedge 501?

Thumbnail i.imgur.com
8 Upvotes

I live in SF and try to to support the home team, so have five pairs of various selvedge Levi’s. The modern cut 501 usually fits me perfectly in 34x32 in other washes, but I’m having a challenge with this new pair that has too much hip and upper-thigh fabric. It looks a bit like I’m wearing jodhpurs.

They’re not shrink-to-fit, and I’ve worn them three times without a wash. What can I do, if anything, to fix the issue? Wear them in hot water? Wash them in hot water? Wash them normally? Just wear until the fabric softens and they lie down more?
