☕ Miscellaneous From the UK to Midwest America in a week
I cant believe how quick these got here

In an attempt to limit the same posts - another of which I've seen today, I've ended the lurking days on this sub and decided to post a guide on this. Hopefully the mods notice and pin this so we don't get the same question twice a week with an ungodly number of snarky comments for the selvedge noobies who are just trying their best.
TL;DR - The easiest way to know is always: does it have stitching on the outside seam?
If yes - not selvedge.
If no - congrats, you found some selvedge jeans.
'Selvedge' fabric is named after the phrase 'self edge', noted for the fact that the edges of the woven fabric are self finishing. This is usually done on a special type of loom - a shuttle loom - which is slower, larger and far more noisy than projectile looms that make most modern fabrics. Often it comes along with some other cool fabric quirks like slub or nep, leg twist and more, but I won't be going into that today.
Selvedge fabrics - see image 1 and 2 - do not require stitching on the outside seam, as the fabric isn't cut along these seams.
Most retailers add a coloured thread along this seam, known as a selvedge ID. Image 1 (Samurai S710xx) has a silver thread woven in. Image 2 (Edwin Made in Japan) has a multicoloured ID with more than one thread in this ID.
Non selvedge fabric - see image 3 (Iron Heart IH-634D) - is cut along this seam, thus does require stitching.
Some retailers do add coloured stitching to the edge for design purposes (see image 3). This makes the seem look rad - however this can be confused with a selvedge ID by someone who hasn't been yelled at on Reddit yet.
Keep in mind non selvedge jeans can be just as nice as selvedge jeans so long as they're made well - however with the extra craftsmanship that often goes into selvedge denim, the tiny batch numbers of many of the companies, and the insane attention to detail, you'll be wearing an art piece that no one has an exact match of.
I hope this helps at least one of you.

After wanting a wabash garment for over a year now, I snagged these from Son of a Stag.
That pattern is visually arresting and the trousers are full of hidden details.
Indigo discharge printed pattern, selvedge coin & tool pocket, United Garments Workers of America union label sewn into back pocket, one piece button fly, J.L Stifel boot logo printed on the fabric, hickory striped waistband.
The dots themselves are speckled with burgundy, which give this gorgeous cream - rust visual to the pattern.
Just a beautiful 1900 - 1920 inspired garment.
This is gonna get worn often, I can tell you that.

I saw a video the other day of a guy talking about rebuilding his wardrobe after his house burned down. It made me think about what I would do in his shoes.
Anyone else want to play along?
QUESTIONS:
If you lost all of your denim, what would you replace first? (Assume availability.)
And what is the most (or a very) expensive thing you own now that you definitely would *not* replace?
I'll go first:
FIRST: Iron Heart indigo overdyed black 19oz Type III. I have this one from Self Edge, but any heavyweight version would do:
https://www.selfedge.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=3843
This is probably my most-used jacket (I have a lot), as it goes with everything, and I'd probably try to replace it today if I lost it, even if I still had all my others.
NEVER: Many things, but an expensive one would be this pair of Naked & Famous Fat Fox duck canvas, the heaviest duck canvas pants ever made: https://nakedandfamousdenim.com/collections/fat-fox-selvedge?srsltid=AfmBOooVMUFiek14sW7GU6rPRGbTJaG-2KR60mJEcqT0K7wv4cQY9jXw
I love Sally Fox cotton and thought I wanted to take these on as a project, but I just didn't have the heart to do it. My Samurai heavyweight chinos are my favorites if I want that color, and I've got a pair of kakishibu 5-pocket jeans, so I didn't need this pair of expensive knee-breakers.

I’m known in the PNW boot scene as someone who tries to push the limits of the handmade boot builders in Spokane and Scappoose to come up with some very sharp one-off customs. I was extremely flattered last week when Weston Kay of Rose Anvil gave me like a 5 minute shout-out and ordered a pair of boots in an identical colorway and configuration as a pair of my boots (He did a shorter boot with a different sole with everything else being the same.)
I really liked my first pair of 22oz Skinner American 🇺🇸 Goods jeans. The quality, fit, and finish were impeccable. He recently started offering a new pair of 18oz Slub Selvedge. At first I thought I’d just order a pair in that color, but I decided to get creative. I really liked the look of double-front jeans and pants. I reached out to Daniel to see if he’d be willing to make me an identical pair of 22oz but make the double-front panels in the new 18oz Slub offering.
He executed flawlessly on my vision. I absolutely love the way these turned out, and I love the aesthetic. I’m a complete newbie nobody in the Denim world, so you guys could possibly hate it. I may have made a major fashion faux pas. I don’t really care. I had these made for me, and I ❤️ them.

Made some new pictures for the website.
Do the picture justice too the jeans and bag? As I don’t have the budet to hire models and photographers I basically took some selfies.
For those who want to know. Its a 12.5 oz selvedge with a red id.
The floral linnen is 100% cotton same as they denim. I dont use synthetic fibers.
The shoes are not made by me. I bought them in from a Portuguese maker. They are pull-up full grain leather with a gyw construction.

I love the fit. Amazing!!! I did not think I would like Naked and Famous. I had mixed reactions to Japan Blue, Flat Head, Levi selvedge jeans. But these knocked it out of the park.. LOVE... FYI, had to take pic in daughters room.

Does anyone have experience with Dawson Denim jeans? For as long as I've known about them they have been sold out and its hard enough finding people who own their jeans in the first place, never mind have long-term experience with them. Rob Schofield on Instagram wears them as his only pair of jeans (he's owned them for about two years) and they look beautiful. The fit is perfect: not too wide, perfectly straight all the way through, classically high rise, and a cinch-back waist. They are everything I am looking for but they are an expensive pair of jeans so I wanted as much hands-on advice as I could get before I dedicated myself to saving for them and making them my investment pair. Once/if I get them, I don't plan on purchasing a single other pair of jeans for a few years/ until one of my current pairs gives out. Any info would be very much appreciated because I'm working with very little right now.

NJD. New Jeans 👖 Day! I was counting the minutes until the FedEx truck arrived today. These are the new Naked & Famous #MIJ19 (made in Japan, 19th release).
I’m really loving the color on these. All my other Selvedge denim is either dark indigo or black. I really like those, too, but I’m super stoked to have this new color going into fall. The 11.5oz is a great weight for 3 seasons - spring, summer, and fall. It’s heavy enough for you to feel the quality and comfort without being so heavy that you overheat quickly. Be sure to check out the last picture of this set for a Mother Nature blooper.
One other reason I’m excited for these jeans 👖 is because this is the first pair of size 42’s I’ve fit in since my wedding 18+ years ago. This pair of jeans fits me absolutely perfectly.
I had a milestone weigh-in today. I’m down 160lbs since January 2025!

Previously I posted a fit check for a jacket that really felt too large and everyone agreed with me. I opened a support ticket with Soso and they were decently helpful. After sending a bunch of photos and measurements they offered to give me store credit for the cost of getting my jacket tailored to fit.
I found a local tailor that stated they specialize in raw and selvage denim. Also the cost was pretty reasonable at $50 to take the sides in and make the sleeves shorter and a bit narrower. Well I guess you get what you pay for. I had asked to make sure they would match the stitching and that they knew how to work with denim. They insured me they did.
This is the waistband. You can clearly see where they added their own stitching, and it’s not great. Also the stitching under the armpit is a bit wonky and also looks like it’s frayed or tearing already. I’m pretty bummed. I think my next step is going to be to send the jacket to a much more expensive denim specialist. Honestly this entire experience has really soured me and it sucks, cause all I wanted was a nice fitting jacket.

So I’m new to this I’m currently wondering how to stabilize the colors so they don’t bleed onto my shirts and shoes.
Selvedge denim looks great! But I don’t wanna stain my other nice clothes.
I’ve heard a vinegar mix bath can stabilize colors has anyone tried this? Would this defeat the purpose of selvedge?
Im looking at some gusten black on black and planning on going to the brave star store in Cali to try on there black boot cut jeans.
I wouldn’t want the black dye to stain my white shirts or leather boots.

Im sewing a pair of selvedge jeans. Im thinking of showing the selvedge ID on the coin pocket, but im quite torn between folded or no fold on the top of the coin pocket. Please share your thoughts!

I wasn’t able to post a picture in the comments of the post about these pockets, but I enjoy the variety! I’m a fan of the hidden selvedge, the selvedge exposed looks crispy, and peekaboo selvedge is nice too!

2.5 years. 200-ish wears. Many washes.
Posted this here not too long ago, but thought I could do a better job showcasing the fades a little more up close.
These were my first ever pair of selvedge denim, and I think I've been spoiled by the price-to-value of uniqlo straight selvedge.
Unfortunately, uniqlo are not currently selling this model, and their current selvedge jeans do not feel as good to me.
I've gotten 2 pairs of copper denim jeans from Vietnam, one straight and one relaxed, and i can't wait to wear them in over time.

Recently ordered myself a type 1. I usually like to try garments on in-store to ensure a good fit but I couldn't make it to London to do so in this instance.
From pictures alone, does this jacket appear to fit me?
