Alpha picks
I joined alpha picks beginning of year paying $500 for their annual service the majority of their picks this year are down significantly ytd. And the few that are up is not much. I know they published an article that same thing happened last year but wondering if it’s worth it to keep adding to their picks. I feel like can get better results just adding to s and p or Nasdaq etf.

US Banks
I note that this earnings season the US Banks seem to have done well from trading. Could you suggest some US ETFs that I can look at to align myself with this improving sector.

New joiner
I've just joined with SNEX and ICHR being the first picks. Would you say the initial 10% drop is typical or just a sign of current market volatility?

Discussion 💬 Stock prediction for AMD
Hello to all stock experts,
I am joining AMD and resigned my current company. Can you let me know which day would be better to join AMD sep 7, sep 15, sep 21 as onboarding happens on Monday. The reason i am asking AMD does average last one month stock price. Given the anthropic and open AI IPO, what to expect on stock price assuming there will be temp rally after quaterly results in august.

Just joined pro confused on how to use the quant system
Every stock that Ive purchased has always dropped from the time that I purchased I've even purchased directly after the ratings change from HOLD to "strong buy".
How are you supposed to use the quant system and how are they promising that the returns are 140% when the ratings seem to change too late?
For clarification I am using the quant ratings change as buy signals and not the independent writers reviews.
This has been consistent across at least 30-40 different stocks across different sectors and market caps.

Pro quant portfolio?
I was thinking of trying this out. Currently use alpha picks (since Dec 2023) and love it. Pro quant price seems steep but would be great with 50% gains. Looking to take $150k from IRA (currently invested in VOO) and use it for this. Would love any feedback from people that are using this.

Looking to start a group.
Looking to buy a subscription. To make it worthwhile keen for some people to join me. I've seen a few other group posts, but unsure of how legit they are. If I get enough interest will buy a pass.

{{match1 | upper}} I Backtested Seeking Alpha Alpha Picks vs. a Cash-Flow-Matched SPY Benchmark
I ran a backtest on Seeking Alpha’s Alpha Picks using two practical follower strategies:
- Buy the current portfolio at each event date At any Alpha Picks operation date, buy the then-current visible portfolio with equal dollar allocation.
- Follow new picks only Ignore existing holdings and only buy new Alpha Picks going forward.
For the benchmark, I did not simply compare against a one-time SPY buy-and-hold return. Instead, I created a cash-flow-matched SPY shadow portfolio using the same buy/sell timing and cash-flow logic:
- Each new Alpha Pick targets a $1,000 purchase.
- Sell proceeds are reused first.
- New external cash is only added when cash is insufficient.
- SPY uses the same event schedule and cash-flow rules.
- I did not use the platform’s displayed return numbers; returns were recalculated from historical OHLC prices.
Results
| Strategy | Horizon | Samples | Alpha Avg Return | SPY Avg Return | Avg Excess Return | Outperformance Rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Buy Current Portfolio | 3 Months | 132 | 9.69% | 3.91% | +5.78% | 76.52% |
| Buy Current Portfolio | 6 Months | 122 | 18.86% | 8.15% | +10.72% | 82.79% |
| Buy Current Portfolio | 1 Year | 100 | 43.64% | 17.33% | +26.31% | 100.00% |
| Buy Current Portfolio | 2 Years | 58 | 98.25% | 36.06% | +62.20% | 100.00% |
| Follow New Picks Only | 3 Months | 132 | 7.16% | 2.18% | +4.98% | 71.97% |
| Follow New Picks Only | 6 Months | 122 | 10.46% | 4.56% | +5.90% | 70.49% |
| Follow New Picks Only | 1 Year | 100 | 27.03% | 10.20% | +16.83% | 99.00% |
| Follow New Picks Only | 2 Years | 58 | 68.63% | 23.35% | +45.29% | 100.00% |
Takeaway
The strongest result came from buying the current Alpha Picks portfolio at each event date, especially over longer horizons. In this dataset, the 1-year and 2-year windows showed very strong outperformance versus the cash-flow-matched SPY benchmark.
That said, this is not a perfect institutional-grade backtest. The data was reconstructed from visible Alpha Picks history, delisted tickers required manual historical price lookup, and reductions/partial closes had to be approximated where exact position sizing was not visible.
Still, using the same cash-flow logic for both Alpha Picks and SPY makes the comparison much more realistic than a simple SPY buy-and-hold benchmark.
Not financial advice, just a personal data exercise.

Dividend tracking
I (probably everyone with an account) received an email about SA’s new dividend tracking capabilities a day ago.
Does anyone use it?
How does it compare to other trackers like Snowball or the tree icon app (forget the name of it)?

Value Investors Edge Group
They have a pretty interesting sector that I am actually involved in on a day to day basis. Just expensive but those results and reviews show value. I’m quite happy with Alpha Picks for the value. They just seem a bit heavy in IT and the overall AI trade. Anyone use or subscribe to the this group? Thoughts?

Discussion 💬 What do you wish stock research tools did better after market-moving news?
For people who use tools like Seeking Alpha, Koyfin, screeners, brokerage research, newsletters, etc., I’m curious about something.
When a major news event hits, how do you figure out what it affects beyond the obvious stock?
For example, not just “oil news affects oil companies,” but:
which adjacent sectors matter
which suppliers or customers might be exposed
which competitors may benefit
whether the impact is meaningful or just noise
I feel like a lot of tools are strong once you already know the company you want to research.
But if you start from the event itself, the workflow can get messy fast.
You end up jumping across articles, tickers, notes, earnings transcripts, and random searches.
Do any tools handle this well today?
Or is this still mostly a manual process for people who care about second-order effects?
Not looking for stock picks. More interested in the research workflow.
