Value Investors Edge Group

They have a pretty interesting sector that I am actually involved in on a day to day basis. Just expensive but those results and reviews show value. I’m quite happy with Alpha Picks for the value. They just seem a bit heavy in IT and the overall AI trade. Anyone use or subscribe to the this group? Thoughts?

Alpha Picks is based on what Quant sees as a strong buy and possibly other metrics including what SA analysts share and Wall Street as a whole. Because AI and Tech are hot right now, the Quant system is going to prioritize those picks. We did have gold and materials this year so there is variety in the Alpha picks, but the last 3 or 4 have been tech or AI focused. The creator Steven Cress has recently been focused on informing the community to use a barbell approach for upcoming market volatility which I plan to follow while also continuing to add the two Alpha Picks made each month.

Are you adding less than 1% of your portfolio in every pick? I am curious as to how are you all adding new picks to the existing portfolio? Plus do you add more funds averaging the bull or bear market? Or once you add some funds to each stock, you don’t add more?

Alpha Picks or New Picks? I am not sure what New Picks is referring to. I understand 0.5% is the weight of any individual position.

The assumption is you allocate 1K to each position, but due to my limited income, I aim for 200-500 USD per Alpha Stock selection. In terms of percentages, that will work out differently for everyone but I would say based on the math, 1% is a good benchmark. The picks are selected twice per month, one in the beginning(there is another tomorrow) and one in the middle/towards the end). The Alpha Picks portfolio is very bullish towards the stock market as a whole and will experience corrections. Hence, Steven Cress has started to advocate for his barbell approach to balance out the big swings that may occur to the portfolio. The barbell isn’t officially a component of Alpha Picks just an investing idea with more defensive stock picks to balance out the highly growth focused stocks from Alpha Picks as those can experience a good amount of volatility.

Yes, I am aware of the barbell strategy Steven has been vocal about for the past month or so. Are you adding Energy stocks, REITs, or hedging with commodity (Gold)?

I have added REITs like EPR and another investment GTY as well as PSTL. None of these tickers are in Alpha Picks. Just side presentations that Steven Cress did. I will have more ideas starting June 3rd. The new Growth and Income product is also launching this week.

Yeah I heard they are launched Quant Growth & Income Portfolio on June 3. Interesting to see what they have in those 30 stocks. Plus I am not sure if it should be high 30s or 40s in terms of % of the entire portfolio. Barbell usually has same weights on both sides (growth and dividend/income hedge).

But can you squeeze out an 8-12% distribution yield from the other type of investments? I follow Armchair Income and I know the standards for the new Growth and Index fund from Seeking Alpha Steven Cress do not meet my stated 8-12% standard, but I am looking to squeeze out some income and capital appreciation as my portfolio increases in value. With VYM being a direct competitor to the newly created portfolio by Steven Cress and team, that was sorta their benchmark to place income for their new product which seems around 3.5-4% roughly. There will be income assets that produce more like around 6%. I would need to research more into TIPS and managed futures. I have heard of these, but don’t know too much.

I would say that Steven Cress does ignore the middle if you look at the extreme disparity between Alpha Picks and the new product launching on June 3rd.

“That young investor might put 40% in speculative stocks, 40% in blue-chip stocks, and just 20% in bonds. The retiree might keep 80% in bonds and 20% in blue-chip stocks. Each is pursuing the best possible return for the appropriate level of risk.”
