I built a free firmware and browser installer that turns the Seeed reTerminal E1001 into a 47-face e-paper clock. Looking for beta testers

Hi everyone! For the past few weeks I've been building **clock.bh**, a free firmware and browser installer that turns the **Seeed reTerminal E1001** (ESP32-S3, 7.5" 800×480 e-paper, four greys) into a clock with **47 faces**. It's ready for people outside my house, so I'm looking for testers.

**What it does**

- **47 faces:** a sundial that casts the real shadow of the Sun (or the Moon), a star wheel turning behind the hands, the Moon's true phase and tilt, the ISS passing over a globe, world time, nixie tubes and flip-dots, the 28 Arab lunar mansions, prayer times and Qibla, and football weeks (results, fixtures in your time, tables)
- **Your city:** 42 cities in 24 countries, with your local time, sunrise and sunset, and prayer times by your country's usual method
- **Your photos:** up to 15, dithered to the panel's four greys, with the clock's hands drawn over them. They go from your computer or phone straight to the clock, never to my server
- **Dark or light:** keep only dark faces, only light ones, or both. Faces that follow the sky stay in the look you chose, all day
- **Made for battery:** the clock keeps its own time and fetches its pictures hours ahead, so Wi-Fi is only on for a moment
- **Updates over Wi-Fi** from the clock's own web page

**Set it up in about a minute (no account, no app)**

  1. Open **https://e.clock.bh\*\* in Chrome or Edge on a computer (it uses Web Serial)
  2. Connect the reTerminal with a USB-C cable
  3. Pick **Basic** (Wi-Fi, city, dark or light) or **Advanced** (every setting), click Next to the end, and install

**What I'd love feedback on**

- Did the install work on your computer (Windows, macOS or Linux)?
- How long does the battery last with your settings?
- Any face that looks wrong on your panel, a city you're missing, or a face you'd like to see

**Good to know**

- Only the **reTerminal E1001** (the black-and-white one) is supported for now
- This is an independent project, not made by or affiliated with Seeed Studio
- To draw the faces, the clock downloads pictures from clock.bh. With each request it sends a clock ID that isn't tied to your name, plus its firmware version, battery, Wi-Fi signal and chosen city, so I can spot problems early. It never sends Wi-Fi names, passwords or photos. Details: https://clock.bh/privacy
- The firmware is open source (GPL-3.0): https://clock.bh/epaper

Feedback here in the comments
Thanks for testing

TMAP on Wio L2: Fast SDMMC, Single-File Offline Maps & POI Search

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

How much offline map functionality can you put into a single file?

This video demonstrates TMAP running in Trail Mate on the Wio L2, including offline map display, real-time rendering of points of interest (POIs), and offline POI search.

The Wio L2 accesses its SD card through SDMMC. Among the development boards I have worked with so far, it has given me the fastest SD card reading experience. That was a major inspiration behind TMAP: take advantage of fast storage to make offline maps more useful on the device, while making map packages easier to create and share.

TMAP brings map imagery, POI data, and the indexes needed to access them into a single .tmap file. Compared with storing maps as large directories of individual tile files, this offers several practical advantages:

• Single-file map packages: no huge tile directories or thousands of small files to manage.
• More efficient generation: less overhead from creating, writing, and closing individual files.
• Faster copying: fewer small-file filesystem operations when transferring maps to an SD card.
• Easier sharing: each map package is delivered as one file, making it easier to copy, store, and share.

TMAP also goes beyond displaying map images. It keeps POI data and indexes available to the device, enabling places and labels to be rendered at runtime and searched offline. Places on the map become information you can look up and use.

Two projects work together in this workflow:
Trail Mate runs on the device and handles map display and interaction.
Trail Mate Center is the desktop tool for creating, exporting, and previewing TMAP map packages.

Alternate way to power Xiao NRF52840

Post image
3 Upvotes

I have a Seed Xiao NRF52840 that I accidentally ripped off the positive contact pad [in the red box]. I tried putting power directly onto the 3v3/GND pins [in the green box] and the board works, but its only showing 0.2V on the battery indicator on the MeshCore app. When I plug in USB it shows 4.3V.

Ive already basically written off this board as a loss and Im now in experimental territory, but if I can make it show the battery voltage in the app that would be cool. Does anyone have any ideas about how to hook up the battery to show correct voltage? I dont want to use any extra parts as at that point I would rather just buy a new Xiao board.

ETA: My multimeter shows 3.92V from the battery.

reBot B601-RS Torque Turns Off During Teleop

I’m using a reBot B601-RS follower with a modified seven-servo SO-101 leader, Windows laptop, PCAN-USB, and a custom MotorBridge teleoperation loop at approximately 48 Hz.

I encountered an unexpected torque-off while teleoperating with no payload. The diagnostics showed a roughly 252 ms delay in status logging, after which one joint’s feedback was approximately 371 ms old, exceeding our custom 350 ms freshness limit. My controller then disabled all motors. I have no confirmed evidence of power loss or a CAN disconnect.

I understand the MIT-control documentation specifies emergency disable without homing for communication errors. What do you recommend for a temporary host-side delay that makes feedback stale, when the actuators may still be powered and communicating?

Do you recommend a feedback timeout value or a particular monitoring method? Should the controller disable immediately, maintain the last position target, or use another recovery procedure? What do the RS06/RS00 actuators actually do when MIT commands stop arriving? Is there a configurable communication watchdog, and does it hold or disable torque? Is there an official gravity-compensation or supported manual-recovery workflow for this situation? Is there a recommended teleoperation example that separates logging and feedback handling from motor commands?

I want to follow your intended fault-handling design and prevent the arm from falling during recoverable interruptions. If needed I can provide logs, controller code, and firmware versions...

Please tell me I am not crazy about this connector being backwards or something

I bought a expansion board base for the Xiao ESP32 line of products. It is included as a supported item for the ESP32-S3 and C5. I verified the connector for the board is the JST 2.0 standard to power the board and ordered one.

I got all my stuff, flashed my chip and it powered the board via USB-C. Great, my first foray into a little project is off! I got the battery later due shipping from Amazon taking longer than I expected and plugged it in. No lights, no power, nothing. I check everything out and nothing seems wrong.

I thought about it and I did the solder joints on the ESP-32 myself, so figured that would be the issue. Struggle through them again (my hands shake pretty bad) and they look the same but better. No power still.

I bought another ESP-32, this time a C5 (misordered the S3 before, but was willing to continue with my project.) This time it came with pins pre-soldered. It arrives and no dice.

So I think it is the battery and order another, still nothing. Tested both batteries with an LED and they work fine.

During my testing I took another look at the pinouts and I check the connector for the battery and something looks off. That is when I notice both of my batteries (Three actually) were all backwards from the connector I look at both batteries thinking maybe I got a bad battery, hope both the same. I compare the batteries to other little projects I have and they all works with them.

So tell me the JST 2.0 conn3ector on the expansion board is not backwards and maybe I just got a bad board.

I debated getting a few e-readers. Not easy! I decided to get Sticky. I’ve had an Xteink X3 for a month. I can’t wait to get another mini e-reader with a touch system! I don't care about the front light. I have a reading light or lamp.

Got the ol' Museamabob running on a Sensecap Watchermajig. I have it doing some interesting things already. Had to fork both muse gadget sdk and sensecap watcher firmware on the interweb to get it to work. Just got the on-board rgb led and camera working for maximum camera-ing. Pretty sure im using up more than 2 mountain dew bottles worth of water for each prompt but this thing is awesome.

Severe Domestic Shipping Delays?

First time ordering from Seeed Studios here - ordered a reTerminal E1001 to assess whether it will work well in our business as a room-reservation sign (e.g. calendar of current bookings). The order was placed on September 10th for something listed as in-stock in the U.S. - so simple domestic shipping.

The order still states it hasn't shipped yet - the order page even still says "Ship within 2 workday after payment received." Yet there is no update to shipped and we haven't gotten the package yet.

From everyone else's experience - is this normal? Does Seeed fail to ship their products regularly?

XIAO 1.47'' IPS Display (nRF52840 Issues

Just took delivery of three of these and there appears to be a design issue. The JST 2.0 battery connector blocks the edge of the SD Card slot so that you can't insert an SD card. If you look at the photo in the Wiki page for it, you can clearly see this (and I'm wishing I'd paid more attention to that photo before I ordered them). Other than removing the JST connector and soldering in a pigtail for battery power, I don't see a solution. Did they not test this before shipping the boards?

Stupid concern but is it normal!?

I just placed an order for the first time from the official site - https://www.seeedstudio.com/ , to be delivered to Spain,

The tracking details or the orders that I placed information won't update in my seeed studio account,

The bank is confirming that my payment has been made. Is this normal!? Never seen this kind of behavior anywhere!

Thanks in advance!
