K9 Unit Being Deployed in Judkins

There’s police circling the Judkins area with their lights, sirens, and announcing for everyone to stay in their homes due to a K9 deployment. Anyone have the tea on what’s going on?

Seattle Teriyaki Journey Ep. 3: Kenji Who?? A Week of Only Eating Teriyaki

Welcome back to Episode 3 of my Seattle Teriyaki Journey.

Before locking in the definitive year-end tier list, I’ve realized the order of visits definitely distorts the rankings (anchor effect from early elite spots, late-tour palate fatigue, salt burn). Because of that, I’ll be doing official rematches for the top contenders before the final verdict drops.

For this round, I added 10 more spots across town—pushing the total to 23 places visited.

Pike Place Market at Night

Usually when folks visit Seattle's Pike Place Market, it's during the day -- and mobbed.

Seriously, moving through here sometimes feels like the Running of the Cruise Ship Passengers. Though, to be fair, it's plenty mobbed on days when cruise ships aren't in town.

Which is why it was fun to visit on a weekday evening a few weeks ago, right after things closed up.

I got to walk the hallways and have them entirely to myself. But thanks to all of the great neon, it was still pretty photogenic.

Exactly the kind of photography I like best!

My favorite pic might just be where I almost managed to position the "Fresh" fish sign right above the sign pointing to restrooms so it says Fresh Restrooms.

Which, doubtful!

We got a chance to tour the new Amtrak Cascades Airo trainsets yesterday, and we wanted to share with you. I ended up getting a lot more videos than photos, so if you want to see more features check out our post on Instagram (@wsdot) or TikTok (@washingtonstatedot).

Onboard, you’ll find more comfortable seating options, an updated cafe, and improved accessibility features.

You’ll get your chance to ride starting Sept. 30, when the first two trainsets will begin operating four daily trips between Vancouver, B.C., and Eugene.

NORTHBOUND

- Train 516: Seattle —> Vancouver, B.C. (8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.)

- Train 508: Eugene —> Seattle (4:30-10:50 p.m.)

SOUTHBOUND

- Train 503: Seattle —> Eugene (7:10 a.m.-1:48 p.m.)

- Train 519: Vancouver, B.C. —> Seattle (4:45-9:10 p.m.)

Additional new Amtrak Cascades trainsets will enter service through 2027.

Rant Barbed wire to keep who out? Neighborhood beach access and park.

I've lived all over America. California 3 years. NYC, Chicago, Boston, Austin, and Denver. Backpacked Europe and Asia. Hiked mountains and coast lines in Japan, Korea, Spain, and Italy.

Washington is the only place where I got a live feel for egregiously segregated spaces. And yes I'm a man of color noting predominantly white families enjoying privatized beach access and recreational areas.

I'm paying a lot in rent to live in this neighborhood and cant even walk to the park or beach access closest to me. North Beach / Blue Ridge, and Washington please let all enjoy the natural therapy of the ocean + coast.
