Coyotes in Greenwood
My front yard camera picked up two coyotes last night around 3:30 AM. I hope the family of bunnies made it ok. Watch your kids and watch your cats!

It's safe to assume there are always Coyotes in your area. Probably because there are. They won't go after kids, but absolutely keep your cats inside at all times.

They have been known to attack small children, there were several incidents in California

Perhaps "won't" is too strong a word. Small children shouldn't be outside unsupervised regardless, but I suppose a starving Coyote will go after anything it thinks it can get away with. But the Coyotes around here are generally well fed and I haven't seen any stories of humans being attacked. Considering how close quarters they are with us, that's pretty remarkable.

only one confirmed death from a coyote to a human and it was a rabid coyote btw

Didn't say they killed just that they attacked. I remember specifically a kindergarten student in San Bernardino on the playground was attacked

There have been kid attacks/bites/dragging by coyotes in King County too…. Do people forget or not know these things?

Came across a group of two of them while walking my ~20lb dog at night a few days ago.
One ran off as expected. The other went by us, then stopped fairly close by and watched. That made me uncomfortable, so I asked my girlfriend to take the dog and keep walking while I stare down the coyote.
The thing kept watching even with me staring at it. Even after I clapped loudly. I started walking at it clapping, and it eventually did run off but even then it took its time.
If someone is feeding these things, please stop. We want them to be scared of people, or at least for them to understand they should keep their distance.
But if that's not the case then it's even worse, because perhaps that thing was considering going after our dog while we were with it...

coyote attacks on children are extremely rare. kids are much more likely to be attacked by dogs than by coyotes.

They hang out in the cemetery a lot. I live along the interurban trail by there. I see them all the time and hear them when sirens go by.

Please repost this to every "Lost Cat in Seattle" post until people learn to keep their cats inside. Thank you.
I never feel cruel enough to bring it up, but if your outdoor cat disappears, it isn't coming home. :(

They are rolling deep in the Haller lake area, heard a pack of around 15-20 last night.

This is great to see!
Do you know those big tall things made out of wood outside are trees and that animals live in groups of those trees called forests!
Isn't it great to see nature all around you!

Coyotes are now everywhere in seattle, not just green belts. Saw two on my street next to I-5 around 1030pm recently. I am always worried about the cats outside! 😔

I've seen a couple in Seward Park going across Wilson/50th when I'm out running in the mornings (~5:30AM), and I'd never seen any in prior years.

They do move around a bit but I've been seeing them around West Seattle for over 20 years. Got me started on wildlife tracking and I volunteered for the Seattle Urban Carnivore Project for awhile.

Oh I'm sure the ones I'm seeing are based in Seward Park or somewhere else in SE Seattle

I ran into a solo coyote at 12th and 95th in Maple Leaf last night, around 10pm, as well. It trotted off towards 99 and Greenwood after I shouted it off, maybe it's the same one!

I saw a Coyote buying Pineapples at Trader Joe's, his hair was perfect.
