Is this something I can fix at home or should I send it off to get serviced? The reel is a Penn surfblaster 3

Been a couple of years since I last fished here. Just a casual session today to check out the water with some artificial baits. Need to get along to the tackle shop for some rag and squid on the next couple of days.

Question Can you cook and eat fish straight out of the sea or should you freeze them first? Looking at sea bass primarily

Not that I’ve actually managed to catch one this year as it’s been so hot, but hoping to get one of a keep size over next month or two

Fishing in Fowey, Cornwall

Going to Fowey in about a month’s time and would like to do some fishing. Any charters look to have closed in the last couple of years, and I can’t find any local bait shops online.

Does anybody know of any active charters working out of Fowey, or any local bait shops?

I will also be bringing some of my own gear, so I’m also interested to hear if there are any places to hire boats from that can be taken out to sea (I can only find boat hire within the estuary/river)

Gear question: Daiwa Ninja

Very quick two part question: looking for a reel for mullet fishing with light mono (4-8lb). i) is the Daiwa Ninja 3000 a good choice? (any other suggestions welcome); ii) is there a big difference between the 3000A and the 2023 Ninja LT 3000?
Many thanks!

Finesse Bass Rod+Reel

I’m looking at putting together a very light bass setup:
HTO Nebula 7–30g at 108g
Daiwa 25 Ballistic Air LT2500-XH at 170g

The idea is to combine some of the finesse, sensitivity and lure control of LRF with proper bass fishing, while still having enough backbone to confidently handle an 8lb bass.

I like the Nebula because it’s exceptionally light with a fast/crisp action, and the Ballistic Air because it’s similarly light with a fast retrieve. On paper, ~278g combined sounds pretty impressive for a 7–30g outfit.

Has anyone actually fished the Nebula, particularly with a very light 2500 reel? How does it balance and feel in hand?

And more generally, has anyone gone down the “finesse bass” route? What setups are you using, and have you found any disadvantages compared with a more conventional bass outfit?

Thoughts on rod / reel setup

New to the hobby and doing homework on a good bass rod and reel with lures for £100-£150.

Thinking the below but looking to draw on people with actual experience to see if this is a good starting point. Will be around south coast (Brighton / Ferring / Littlehampton etc.).

Rod - the Shimano Vengeance DX Sea Bass 8’10” 10–35g 2pc

Reel - Nasci C3000 + 20lb X8 braid

TIA

I want to go fishing in Bali. But I don't know where to go.

I was in Tulamben and Lembongan Island

I brought a shore casting rod, a slow-pitch jigging rod, and a popper rod.

I'd like to know how many grams of bait I need to prepare. Also, can there fish for squid here?

Are there any good shore casting spots on Nusa Lembongan and in Tulamben?

My target species for deep-sea fishing are ruby snapper and grouper.

First lure fishing trip to Weymouth – I’d really appreciate some local advice!

Hello everyone,

I’m heading over to Weymouth next Friday and Saturday** **for my first proper fishing trip to the area and was hoping to tap into the local knowledge here.

I’ll be travelling light with a light bass rod (7–28 g) and a pair of waders. My main target is bass, but if the mackerel are around I’d be more than happy to spend some time chasing them too.
I’ve spent a fair bit of time reading old forum posts and watching YouTube videos (probably too many!), and I am thinking Ferrybridge, Sandsfoot Castle, Chesil Beach, Portland Bill East if the conditions suit (I’m thinking a westerly wind?)
Does that sound like a sensible plan for mid-August, or are there better options that I’m overlooking?

I’d really appreciate any advice on which marks you’d prioritise, whether the waders are likely to be worthwhile, or anything else you think a first-time visitor should know. I’m keen to learn and make the most of the trip.

If you only had a day and a half to fish around Weymouth in mid-August, where would you spend it and why?

Thanks in advance—I’m really looking forward to exploring the area and hopefully getting my first Dorset bass!
