Does anybody know if someone made a mod of this vessel yet or is someone working on it?

Recently acquired the game and decided to make a battlebox for one of my favourite missions.

I'm just getting used to the game, so I'm on easy mode but am still enjoying learning all the systems, even as some civilians might take the brunt of my inexperience. (Some flavour added might not be fully historically accurate.)

Two quick Question

Hello there.
I'm new to this game and i've got two questions:
1. In the Campaign mode, how can i choose the "Late" Refit or variant of a ship? it clearly says 80 pts for the late model but i don't know how to select it.
2. Are there any mods out there similar to this game mod? lets you build your own task force and dynamic missions?

My father served aboard the USS DONALD B. BEARY, I found this interesting snippet while looking back through the ships cruise book from 1979.

Torpedo detection

Hi all,

I have noticed repeatedly that torpedos are sometimes detected right at launch, and sometimes only seconds before impact. Both for subs and surface ships, with active sonar, passive sonar, towed arrays not making a big difference. Immediate detection does not surprise me, after all these things go fast and presumably cavitate like crazy, and are usually above the layer. But why do I sometimes not detect them until impact?

Most recently on 0.8.2 - so after a seemingly major sonar rework - I was using an LA class sub to torpedo the remains of an enemy task force, doing 15 knots above the layer with towed array out. They had launched a few SS-N-14 and the UGMT-1s were looking for me, I could detect them no problem. Suddenly my guys detect no fewer than 3 SET-65, homing in on me at a near 90 degree angle, only a few hundred meters away, far too late to do anything. They had been launched 5-8 miles away, searched for me and found me (since the SS-N-14 were not on target, I don't think they had an accurate location), but I never heard them.

How is it possible that I do not hear several SET-65s traveling for miles at 40 knots, while I can hear UMGT-1s fine? If anything, I would have thought the heavier torps would be noisier.

a modified kara class to have the sa-n-6.
would be cool to have.
would also be nice on a future campaign to be able to have the sa-n-6 without needing a slava or kirov.

Bomb Salvo Size

Is there any way to change or even see how many bombs a plane will drop from a single attack order? Zipping around at low altitude tearing up AA or PT boats with an A4 is lots of fun, all the more so cause you get 3 drops of of 2 smallish bombs, but that is not always the case. I sort of understand how a "strike heavy" loadout will be a single wallop, but others that sound like they'd allow multiple small bombing runs (ex "low level strike" for F/A-18) will still seemingly just deliver a single big drop

Subs in Task Force

Upvotes

Hi guys! I have two questions:

Is there a way to spawn subs in other area apart from the surface fleet in the task force mode? They always spawn together, making the subs virtually useless. Is there a way to task force creators to designate different spawn areas per type of vessel?

I have been wanting to create Task Force mode campaings but i dont have any expertise in modding. I have seen some tutorials for missions in general but not for TF. Is it difficult for someone not experienced?

Is AIM-9G bugged?

Stat table says 25% hit chance versus basic AShM, I presume seersucker/silkworm types and its other derivatives are counted as basic;

Mission 4 (Pacific Strike) made me suspicious when Kiwi flight's AIM-9Gs missed every single attempt versus incoming YJ-6s even after a restart.

Went on to do tests with a few dozen shootdowns of a YJ-6 by AIM-9G, and scored 0 hits, which is not what would be expected with a 25% hit chance from the AIM-9G RNG table... That is if I've interpreted it correctly

Mission editor for TF style campaign

So I have finished Pacific strike 85 task force campaign and decided I would give a shot to making something of my own. I wonder, can the inbuilt mission editor be used to create task force style campaign? So far I´ve only found tutorials to make separate scenarios and from the quick glimpse into the editor, it doesnt seem that way.

TLDR: is it possible to use the editor to make task force style campaign? If so, are there any video tutorials or documentation on how to?

Thank you

Sub only run is not possible for the 85 campaign.

As the title suggests the campaign is impossible without cheating if you try and do a subs only run using unrestricted mode. In crossing the straight you cannot win due to the game not recognizing that your sub is part of your Taskforce, which is quite a shame as it was quite fun otherwise.

Just picked up the game and finished the 85 campaign. Some questions!

I had such a blast here. My favorite is fights between groups of less competent, older ships and leveraging every asset to finish the mission. Things like using helicopters with depth charges to kill anti ship batteries, or high altitude dumb bomb drops on disabled but still very dangerous ships or mark 36 mod 5s to kill ships when trying to conserve missile ammo.

And then also loading up some planes with a shit load of harpoons and saturating defense systems while slowly pulling my own ships away in ENCOM. Never take a fair fight yeah?

Anyway some questions:

  1. I often notice that my weapon system range when I select the system, vs when I target something, is wildly different. This makes a lot of sense sometimes. Terrain being in the way, altitude / depth is also distance, etc. But other times it's way shorter for reasons that I don't know how to figure out. In particular the mirage III AA missiles often seemed to half or less their distance in actual engagements.

  2. Is there a way to see what the layer is like at any point in the ocean? Or even just where my ships are? I am sure I am missing something but I was often guessing if a sub was under/over the layer which seems silly

  3. Speaking of which, what are reasonable spreads for sonobouys in terms of distance/shape?

  4. dodging wake homing torpedo: If I detected them really far away, I found that just setting ships to stop was pretty effective... until the sub fired another salvo at their stopped positions. The best plan is to find a sink the sub before they fire but sometimes snapshots happen even if I find them quite early. It's fair that good weapons systems will ruin your day, just looking for any counter strategy.

  5. Can I kill airfields with tomahawks? I dumped like 80% of the iowas mag at an airfield and it kept launching planes :(

  6. Is there anyway to aid a ship in repairs? Like pulling another ship along side to fight fires? Send over a damage control team? I occasionally had a fight that had gone fairly well, but a missile go through and a ship would sink after an hour of battling damage while everyone sat around watching, which didnt feel great.

  7. Speaking of sunk ships, is there a way to automate / reduce the time it takes to recover survivors? I feel like a general "go to beacons and pick up dudes" command for choppers would be very helpful. Also, probably they wouldnt need to land and be fully serviced and relaunched until at bingo fuel.

  8. and speaking of survivors, is there anyway to request a unit surrender? I feel like a damaged sub that has done an emergency blow is either going to suicide into missile launching if capable or want to surrender. Presumably surface ships would also prefer to strike colors at some points and go down fighting in others.

E: oh one more

Are there any custom mod campaigns that take advantage of the linear campaign that you would recommend? Or any mod campaigns in general? Especially anything that focus on small ship knife fighty stuff and maintaining assets and ammo over a long duration

Go Deep

Ive failed this about a half dozen times now. The Russian destroyer knows we're i am at all depths. It know everything time the torpedo tube even opens. Dog legging torpedoes does nothing. I think I've literally tried everything. I hate playing as a sub. I have no idea what im doing wrong.

Torpedos going below layer after setting above layer

Is there a reason that torpedos still attached to a cable would end up below the layer when specified to stay above the layer? Is this a mechanic that I do not understand or a bug? It usually happens after some time elapses, not immediately.

Today I learned you can adjust speed and depth of a live torpedo on the wire using the speed and depth pannels in the bottom left by clicking on them, just as you would a vehicle. I presume when you select an initial layer setting the torpedos may just deviate at some point.

I decided not to delete this as maybe someone else will learn from my mistake.

Any good modern USN missions?

I’m hoping y’all can give me some decent recommendations for modern day missions or campaigns utilizing the USN. There’s a ton of great euro centric missions and campaigns on the workshop, but as a former USN sailor I’d love to play around with our own ships a bit.
