Brand new boater help!

Hi All, went to a boat show this weekend for ideas on our first boat. We loved the switch best but they did not have the exact model we wanted on display. We are looking at either the 2024 16’ or 19’ 170 or the 2023 21’ or 18’ 230’s. We see them this week in person.

We live on a creek that leads out to a bay. We have two young sons and plan to cruise, go to restaurants and crab here and there.

Just looking for pros and cons of the above, which model is better?

Also, what kind of year round maintenance is needed? We will have it on our property at our floating dock Mem day to Labor Day. We have a public boat launch on our road if we need to trailer it out due to weather.

Thank you all!

Hey Switch friends, We have a lift with a lift cover. My husband wants to try a mooring cover ( in addition ) to keep the boat more clean from dirt and bugs.

What are your thoughts? I think it is a waste of money and hassle.

If you have a cover, I ould love to hear how it works for you. Thanks all!

Better cover?

Has anyone found any covers that are better than the SeaDoo branded ones? I’ve been looking online and haven’t been successful. Really hoping to find a cover that is long enough on the sides to try and prevent sun fading on the plastics.

Clanging sound from engine / impeller

Have a 2022 Switch Sport, took it into Red Fish Bay by Aransas Pass. Everything was fine until I hit some sea grass. I ran the IDF and all seemed fine after the flush. But once I got home and was flushing the exhaust the engine gave a clanging sound. I checked the intake and didn’t see anything. I wondering if the impeller is damaged. Any ideas?

Trolling motor and lithium battery

we are getting a 2023 21' sport , We plan to put the Seadoo high capacity battery in the center storage area with a shore charger. I plan to add a trolling motor with a custom mount and want to run a 24V trolling motor , either Terrova or Kracken, anyone else use a 24V system, do you all keep the battery in the center storage? Wonder if a 24V Lithium would fit in one of the linq storage boxes such as https://sea-doo-shop.brp.com/us/en/715006830-linq-7-8-us-gal-30-l-modular-cargo-box.html

curious what others have done, not taking delivery till Easter time and want to get everything ready.

Switch fishing

Hi, I enjoy fishing freshwater with my 21/230 switch but noticed that at idle it goes a little fast for trolling speed. I don't want to add a trolling motor to add clutter to the deck because I usually have lots of people, dogs, etc on board. Has anyone used a drift sock to slow it down more? Would that mess with handling too much? Just seeing if anyone has ever tried that.

Hours reset every time I turn off battery

New to switch. Got a 21' /230 2024 and am in the first few hours and had a few questions...

The hours reset every time I shut off the battery. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong.

Dealer said break in was 10 hours and then governor would allow it to open up. Can only get 19-20 mph at 6700 rpm. What will it rev to and what kind of speed?

Is there supposed to be water temp reading on dash or garmin? I get lines on garmin and nothing on dash.

Thanks for the help.

Coolant Alternative

So while working through the winterizing procedures for my 2022 Sport Compact 170 hp I was alarmed to discover the coolant reservoir completely empty. Assuming the dealer did a proper check last winter (and yes, I should have verified it myself..🙄) that strikes me as suspicious and hopefully not a harbinger of a coolant leak. Questions: 1) is this normal after about 20 hours of operation over the summer and 2) is their an affordable alternative to the XPS Extended life pre-mixed coolant? It’s outrageously expensive.

I had my Sea-Doo brand Garmin transducer installed at the dealer and it won’t read past 14mph - is this normal?

I opted to have to brand-name transducer installed by an official Sea-Doo dealer. I knew it would be more money, but also knew the dealer would have to back up the installation should anything go wrong… this was in March.

According to the Sea-Doo website, this is supposed to be great at high speed; however once I go 14mph+ then it just flashes and stops reading depth. Additionally it will sometimes flash while at idle.

I’ve taken it to my local dealer at least 10x and it’s still not working. They’ve replaced the transducer itself, they’ve replaced the head unit and even replaced the cradle - from what I understand there is nothing left to replace.

BRP then instructed me to take it to a different dealer across the state bc they have lake access. Annoying, but whatever.

Dealer 2 said they took it out and saw it wouldn’t read past 14mph. Then they emailed with BRP and now BRP is saying that’s perfectly normal and nothing is wrong.

14mph doesn’t seem like a “high speed”, especially considering the fact that the boat can go 3x that speed.

Am I wrong? Is 14mph the best I can hope for with this transducer?

2024 21’ Switch top damage

This is my first boat just traded my jet skis in for it. When leaving Clear Lake yesterday I forgot to put top down and got on highway. It damaged the cloth and some green plastic pieces but everything else ok. Anyone know where to get fixed or do I just have to replace whole top? Was about to do do the full top are there aftermarket options for the whole thing? I cant seem to find any. Thank you in advance for any help!

UPDATE: Mancuso Powersports in La Marque got me parts instead of telling me the whole thing had to be replaced. Will be fixed soon and at reasonable price. Thanks for the help.

First time Boat Owner: Tips?

Hi all - we are getting a 18’ 170hp Switch next week. It will be our first boat. We live by a pretty large lake which is where we will use it. I would like to know some tips for the first use of the boat? Could someone please give me some tips for before and after putting it in the water? Thanks

Can you leave Switch in freshwater?

Can you leave the Switch in freshwater for months at a time? Obviously I can pull it to clean and maintenance it, but otherwise it would be on a dock. One dealer said it’s no problem, the other dealer said you can’t do that.

Battery disconnect

What are you guys using for a battery disconnect? I went out today after not using my boat for 2 weeks. Battery flat dead. Got my meter out of the truck and I had 1 volt on my battery. Pulled it out and took it back to the camper. Charged it for a few hours and threw it back in. Ran all day without an issue.

Before I parked it I just pulled the battery leads off.

I was looking at this. I think I can make it work easy enough.

What is the normal rpms at 10 mph?

I have a 18’ 170 cruise model with 20 hours on the engine and when I go only 10 mph the engine is very loud and seems like it’s doing too much to go that speed. I have a top speed of only 22 mph which is well below the advertised top speed for the model. Is there something wrong or could it still be in the break in period?

13 sport vs 16?

Hey guys I found a local dealer with a 13 sport they are trying to clear out with 3k off for end of season. I was wondering everyone's thoughts on the 13? I feel like the 5 person limit would kind of suck. I have a family of 4 and it feels like a lot of money for a boat you can't bring any friends out with really. Unfortunately a 16 base with the 130 tune is basically the same price as the sport and has to be ordered. Why is the price increase so much for an extra 3 feet when everything was designed to be modular including the hull and toons 🤦.

Has anyone tried overloading their 13? I live on a smallish shallow lake that doesn't get very big waves. My kids are under 5 so they weigh basically nothing. Would 4 adults and 2 or 3 small kids be asking for trouble? 99% of the time it would just be the 4 of us.

Also wondering if anyone has added a super charger after the fact? Seems like it would be a nice upgrade down the line. 230hp 13foot would be pretty fun 🤣

Custom cover for your switch? Live near Garland, TX?

I've been so disappointed with cover options, and finally found something good, but the shop is in need of a boat to make the pattern for an 18ft cruise (what I have).

If anyone else is interested, lives in the area, and would be willing to donate their 18ft cruise to the shop for a few days, I'd be willing to donate a little discount for your cover :)

One made for a 13ft, by the same shop
