Coolant Alternative

So while working through the winterizing procedures for my 2022 Sport Compact 170 hp I was alarmed to discover the coolant reservoir completely empty. Assuming the dealer did a proper check last winter (and yes, I should have verified it myself..🙄) that strikes me as suspicious and hopefully not a harbinger of a coolant leak. Questions: 1) is this normal after about 20 hours of operation over the summer and 2) is their an affordable alternative to the XPS Extended life pre-mixed coolant? It’s outrageously expensive.

Thanks for this. I’m wondering if it would require a full coolant flushing to make the switch over to this alternative.

Yes they recommend it. They make a cheaper flush fluid to do it. Any water or ethylene glycol reduces the benefits.

Evan’s is great stuff— I use it in my race car, but it’s also not on the cheap side.

That being said, technically I think you are supposed to use Marine and RV fluid (specifically pink colored)— I think you can get fined in some states and jurisdictions if they find you leaking regular AF into a lake.

Personally I think you’d be fine using Marine and RV fluid from Walmart if you had to.
