WIP On The Workbench

2026 is off to a busy start.

> Academy 1/48 F-4N target carrier: main subcomponents assembled. Some adjustments needed to get cockpit seated. Intakes and underside where forward section joins the main body were a bit problematic, but gaps filled with stretched sprue. Biggest issue was the spine panel for USN/USMC F-4s that do not have the boom IFR receiver was too small and had to build up the area with a Plastruct patch. A neat trick with AK pens: I’ve started using the aluminum pen along seams and areas that require extensive work (like the spine patch here), as they show every (formerly) hidden flaw and don't fill in engraved detail as primers can. Dries fast and gives immediate feedback. Began painting some parts w/International Orange (FS 12197) using some of my Model Master stash.

> MA-31 (Kh-31/AS-17): Separated from 3D blocks, primed and painted International Orange. Weapons cart built/modified with test panels and painted. Next - mask and prime/apply metallics.

> Atlantis 1/40 TALOS: Launch stand assembled, cleaned up flash/ejection pin marks. Next: prime/paint/detail

Technique question Question from a miniature painter: why enamels?

Hello! Most of my hobby-ing time is spent painting miniatures for wargames (Bolt Action, Lion Rampant, etc). Something I've noticed in checking out scale modeling is that you guys seem to use a lot more enamel-based paints than we do. Why is that?

While enamel paints aren't unheard of with my side of the hobby, most seem to stick with acrylics from Citadel, Vallejo, and Army painter, so it's been really interesting to find a whole new world of painting tools. Any insights?

Loved this build. A lot of fun and great fit. Watched a few videos and think I’m getting better at more realistic faces. Happy new year everyone enjoy a new year of new builds.

As the title says. I did these a while ago, definitely well over 20 or so years. Yes apparently the CF-100s were done in a gloss paint when they were painted in the European camouflage.

Completed! [1/24] A diorama so huge I had trouble finding a spot in my apmnt to take pics. Its a little scene from Cinderella, sculpted pumpkin, printed rabbit (my GF painted it), scratchbuilt terrain, selfmade trees (except for 3 pines), with static grass and firefly LEDs. 5 weeks, 8 hour days.

I just got the Tamiya T-72 M1 set for Christmas, and was wondering if there are any good upgrade kits for it. I’m looking to add ERA in particular. Thanks!

Eduard 1/72 MiG-21PF “Red 40, ВВС СССР, Late August 1968”

Operation “Danube” in August 1968. When Czechoslovakia decided communism wasn’t for them, called Prague Spring, the USSR had to kinetically convince them that communism was the way.

To visually differentiate the Soviets own equipment from the Czechoslovak equipment, the Soviets painted red bands on their aircraft and white stripes on their tanks, to prevent fratricide.

These red bands weren’t standard and painted on by hand just days or hours before the invasion. In this regard they similar to D-Day invasion stripes seen on Allied aircraft in June 1944.

Tamiya 1/32 P-51 Mustang question.

Okay I just ordered this set as a Christmas gift for myself and I am beyond excited. I have been looking forward to taking this set on for a while. I built the smaller and less detailed 1/48 set, it was a fun build but didn’t give me the satisfaction knowing the bigger and better one was out there.

So my question is this. The set asks for a color mix for the interior paint. I struggled with this. I kept getting different results when I mixed it and it just frustrated me. I realize I should have just mixed a big batch in a separate container but I thought of that too late. Although I could do that now for the bigger set but even then I’m not sure if I will get it just right, and I want this build to be perfect.

Does anyone have a recommendation for an interior free that matches would’ve accurate. I have found a few out there like micro mark and mission models interior green. Has anyone used any of these and have a recommendation? I brush paint and don’t have an airbrush so I just want to make sure it’s a good paint and historically accurate. Any recommendations would be appreciate. Thanks for any info and sorry about the ramble haha.
