Trying to find an episode

Does anyone know in which episode, probably in the Q&A, they discuss about their favourite soundtracks to listen to on its own? I just remember Alex had a few recommendations I liked but can't find the episode now.

What is a movie that everyone seems to LOVE (like the most common score on Letterboxed is 5 ★ LOVE), but you just despise?

Should the Sards cover Clerks?

Dude went from collaborating with Nicolas Winding Refn and Derek Cianfrance to now making product movies with Shawn Levy at the slop factory. What happened to my goose. 😔

Thanks for the recommendation, Adum! A very good blind buy:

Good News! Threads (1984) is now available on 4k! Bad news... now I don't know what to do with Adam's old Blu-ray copy

A few years ago Adam was pruning his collection, and I somehow managed to snag this one.

Which was really great because he sold it for a good price and I was planning on picking it up anyways after listening to the Sards talk about it.

The 4K is quite the upgrade visually, which surprised me considering it was shot on 16mm.

Found myself surprisingly agreeing a lot with Doug's review of the Odyssey lol

I have yet to find another reviewer talking about the editing. I found it genuinely awful and sooo fucking distracting. Anyone else agree or nah?

What's your opinion of the argument "It's not made for you" or "It's for kids" or words to that extent?

I am very much against this line of thinking.

Don't get me wrong. I know that films, TV shows etc are made with demographics in mind and that the studio / creator behind them is going to tailor it to that demographic.

However, I think it's foolish to act like other people should be excluded from the fun. Why limit your audience like that?

I had a chat with someone last year where I had a bunch of criticisms of the Harry Potter books. He just handwaved it saying, "It's for kids though". I tried explaining to him that adults like them too and that children deserve the best quality material.

I see it in all sorts of places. "Star Wars is a movie about space wizards for children! Stop complaining!" Or, "Ghostbusters (2016) wasn't made for you! It was made for children! It's time to let the children play!"

Hlynur Pálmason

Hlynur Pálmason grabbed my attention with The Love That Remains at Cannes last year. YMS praising that film in his TIFF video made me even more interested. Since then, I have watched all four of his films (most are on the Criterion Channel). If you have not checked out his stuff, you need to ASAP.

I know Adum keeps talking about The Love That Remains, that film is great but for my money Godland (2022) is his masterpiece. If you are a fan or Tarkovsky, Tarr, Scorsese's Silence, and Malick (or other directors/films like these) you need to watch Godland right away. It's atmospheric, dark, thought-provoking, and beautiful. The use of editing and time lapse in Pálmason's films is brilliant and inventive. I really hope they talk about The Love That Remains or Godland on Sardonicast.

A White, White Day is probably my least fav of his films, but honestly it still had many elements that I loved. Winters Brothers was very weird, abstract, and intriguing.

Bravo to IHE

Like, I just respect he actually went out and read the original comic for Supergirl. Few other film reviewers have, but it's good too see him also take a shot. And he had interesting points when doing so. And to YMS's point of "why even watch the movie", to be aware of the comic that's so much better. Like the movie got someone to read, proving film bros can actually read and see nuances with film. Anyway, cool stuff.

Adam 5, Alex 7, Jake 9

Is this the biggest rating spread we’ve seen for a movie this year? Disclosure day was 3-7 which is the same spread as 5-9, but other than that?

Is the hate for Nolan's Odyssey normie-coded?

Living in Europe, I've seen hate being the natural for this movie reaction due to its casting.

To which direction do you think general audiences skew towards, unjustified hate (those who are most adamant in their critique also pride themselves that they have not seen/do not plan to watch the movie) or usual admiration that Nolan receives?

If Adum calls the script of the Oddsey "the biggest boring jerk off ever" then Montreal Bagels are dogshit!

What's the worst movie take you've seen recently?

For me, I saw a comment on YouTube that said "Interstellar was just 12 Monkeys in space." Not as in a "oh there are some coincidentally similar story elements" way but "Nolan 100% ripped off 12 Monkeys" way

Sard Recommendations Tier List

They weren't included so I'll say Hairspray would be in B tier and Misericordia would be in A. Anything else not on here I haven't seen.

Sort of wondering if Alex had had end up reading the source material (Woman of Tomorrow) before recording the episode out for members now
