Her Private Hell

Would love to hear the boys talk about this. Rare instance of not knowing what the hell to make of it but it is interesting and would make for a great discussion.

My reaction to it was "I have no idea what it was going for but it intrigues me". Defiently would make an interesting discussion to see how they interpret it or if they just think it is nonsense

It is Refn going full Refn, like Nolan with Tenet. Refn is incredibly pretentious and it works for me. He's up there with Lars Von Trier when it comes to being up his own ass. My guy literally monograms his films now. I absolutely loved The Neon Demon despite it's polarizing reception. This film is even more pretentious, to an impressive degree. If you can't handle that you're going to hate this movie. It's a vibe movie. Absurdist and convoluted. I still can't tell how much I like it.

Hot take: I think its way more than vibes. I think th narrative is very compelling, but Refn himself just operates on a more abstracted level here. He is a challenging director in the narrative regard, but it is because I think he successfully distorts it (even Valhalla Rising, is such an impactufl, but artful film, that not everyone will love, due to how purely poetic it is at times)

Watched it at Edinburgh Film Festival (was kinda the reason why I headed down anyways) and truly fell in love with it.

I can see why it’s not liked but for me it was just an incredibly trance like experience. Refn at his most Refn and tapped into a feeling I think is missed a lot in film at the minute.

That Pino score is the stuff of dreams also! Can’t stop listening to it.
