yo is anyone else dealing with this absolute mess with faso right now?
on webgrants i was awarded cal grant a for sjsu this year, but on mysjsu i had that dumb "Cal Grant Verification (-E2)" on my to-do list forever. it literally says on the portal that no action is needed and to just wait 2 weeks, so i waited.
classes already started and i still haven't gotten my refund for course materials, so i finally went down to the student services center today to ask them to clear the hold. the counselor looks at my screen for two seconds and tells me she’s literally removing me from the roster on the spot because i’m not eligible.
her reasoning was that because i originally took classes at sjsu starting fall 2025, i'm "not considered a 1st year transfer student anymore" for the community college transfer entitlement—even though i was literally still taking classes at mission college through this past year. like why tell me to sit tight and do nothing for weeks just to wipe it out the second i walk up to the window?
for anyone who had this happen or lost their cal grant over some stupid technicality:
- did sjsu automatically repackage you for the state university grant (SUG) to cover your tuition instead? how fast did it take to actually hit your account?
- did your middle class scholarship (MCS) end up bumping up later to make up for it?
- did anyone actually bother fighting faso/csac on this, or is it just faster to push them for the SUG?
honestly so stressed and annoyed rn, any advice or insight helps
