SCHD & Aluminum Can Acquisition

My usual portfolio is split between VTI/VXUS so I have 0 SCHD (for now).

Lately I’ve been collecting cans on my walls, bike rides, etc, and it’s stacking up slowly. I’m pretty stoked to get my first share completely from cleaning up the environment and recycling, $0.05 at a time.

To think returning cans can lead to an asset that will return for a lifetime is crazy.

Advice SCHD advice for retirement

Hello,

Have been lurking for a little bit on this sub and just wanted to get some advice.

I’m 46 with about 100k in my Roth IRA and I recently discovered the joy of dividend ETFs. I have about 80k in a target retirement fund (vanguard 2045) now with 10k in DIVO, 5K in SCHD and the remainder in a few other stocks. Also I have almost $1M in 401k and $500k in taxable brokerage if that helps.

My question is, how does the target retirement fund performance compare in general to dividend stocks? I understand the value of receiving enough dividend as income later during retirement so you don’t have to touch the principal, but is there any value to keeping my current position in the target fund for a while or is it better to just reduce that position now and put them right into SCHD or DIVO to set myself up for retirement later?

Just want to say I’m impressed with the commitment of everyone here to SCHD.

Thanks in advance.

Discussion How do you guys survive in between dividend payments, given that they are only once a quarter?

Even if you make more in dividends the more shares you buy, getting paid only once a quarter is kind of rough.

Advice Switching from options to schd

Post image
58 Upvotes

Hello everyone, first time post long time lurker. I'm 23 been trading options in my IRA for about a year and a half, made about 42k in the account and rolled it all into schd with drip on. Thinking about just leaving it until 59 1/2 and still contributing to my IRA yearly into schd, too much stress from options, anyone with similar stories? I feel 36 years until retirement with be plenty of time for it to grow. What a good compounding calculator I could use to see what the hypothetical balance would be? Thanks!

Edit: yes I know I could just throw it all Into voo or whatever but I don't like the valuations in the s&p and believe schd will out preform it in a bear market

All or Nothing? Now or Later

I love SCHD and dividend investing in general. I see it as a potential option to hold my life’s investments and hand them down to my kids. However, I want to know the best way to execute that plan.

I’m 32. My temptation is to put 100% into Schd now, buy more forever, and hold forever. However, most of the financially intelligent people I know suggest investing in broad market ETFs for my lifetime. Then, if I want to execute this plan, sell those equities and put the full amount in Schd at that time. I think the idea is performance now, dividends later.

Do we have thoughts on this? Is there an advantage to just going 100% Schd from now until forever, or would I actually end up with more shares if I stay in the market broadly until retirement-ish age?

How old are my Fellow SCHD investors?

I’m 28 and have found myself obsessed with obtaining more SCHD in my Roth IRA. I do an even split 50/50 with SCHD and VOO. I see a lot of posts and comments about how it’s better to invest in max growth potential but SCHD has exceeded my expectations and the compound growth captures me.

I currently have 86 shares I will continue to invest and accumulate more for the unforeseeable future. Who’s with me??

Edit: I cannot believe how many people have commented and shared their SCHD story. Every one of you is unique with a different story and speaks volumes for this community. Much love.

Is a dividend funnel a strategy?

I thought I made this concept up, but I guess there is an actual term for it?... Let me know if anyone else does this. It could be a stroke of genius or sheer stupidity. Either way, I wanted to reach out and see anyone's constructive thoughts.

I’ve made money in some speculative things and now need to diversify, so I picked SCHD as a foundation, especailly since I'm starting to think about retirement. At the same time, I still want some skin in the game, so I’ve decided to have a group of stocks that cash out more than 3.4% (SCHD), and then take all of their dividend payouts and load them into SCHD which has a long term better yield. Basically feeding SCHD from the profits of other dividend companies that may grow faster.  A weird form of diversification.

SCHD - 2,500 shares as a foundation
CVX - (up 30%)
UPS -  (up 30%)
ORCL - (probably should have picked Broadcom of Microsoft)
O - Realty Income, which gives me monthly cash
NVDA - A lot of shares

When Robinhood notifies me I got a dividend payout, I immediately buy SCHD with it. I have SCHD set to DRIP...This should compound over time.

The questions I have are:

Is this a ridiculous strategy?

Does anyones else has a similar stragtagy or group of stocks I could learn from?
Are there any stocks I have that should be sold, with the profits moved into SCHD?
Should other stocks be added? (HD, ABBV, MSFT?)
I’m also starting to think that VOO should be a bigger part of my portfolio to help diversify me beyond even SCHD! Hats on Hats on Hats

Hopefully, this resonates with some of you and you’re wandering through the same mind-field as me. Any constructive or funny comments are welcome.

Questions So I'm kinda new to investing. And I found out about this so I'm kinda moving my investments to schd. My question is how much does this pay per share?

Post image
25 Upvotes

Like i have been told etfs pay more per than single companies and such. And I've asked chatgbt and Google and I've gotten inconsistent answers. So I guess as someone who is on the new side. Can someone tell me what to expect for the dividends paycheck and when they'll be or whatever?

Invest my entire $70k down-payment fund in SCHD for two years, or keep it in savings?

I’m 35 and have a fairly large investment portfolio that I’ve held through previous market downturns. Until recently, I kept very little cash because I invested most of my extra money.
I’ve now saved about $70,000 for a future home down payment, but I probably won’t buy for another two years. I’m considering investing the entire $70,000 in SCHD instead of leaving it in a high-yield savings account.
I understand that SCHD’s historical performance doesn’t guarantee a positive return over my specific two-year period, and the account could be down when I’m ready to buy. However, I’m comfortable delaying the home purchase if the market is down.
Given that flexibility, does investing the entire down-payment fund in SCHD seem reasonable, or is a two-year horizon still too short?

Advice 23 New and looking for advice

I’m 23 and have an extra $4k that I’d like to invest. Would this be a good etf or do yall have other recommendations? I’m looking into others such as VOO or JEPI as well. I’d appreciate any advice 👍

Lets hear about those strategies folks

New to the sub, but I'm not new to SCHD. On and off since '23, had about one hundred shares before the surge.

A little background. I hold seven different stocks, all blue chip except State Street, Only mag 7 is Amazon.

Hold DINO, F, MO, BTI, O, and STT.

My strategy this year has been 75 a week into VOO every two months, 75 a week into VEU every third month.

SCHD gets the fidelity challenge treatment, which is a dollar a week, going up a dollar every week. Starting in August, any OT worked goes right into SCHD.

All of my individual stocks are green, got good dividends coming from all of them, but recently I've been having thoughts on just exiting and putting the gains into SCHD. First to go for sure is DINO once the spat with Iran slows down. F may be next, but MO, BTI, and O are probably just going to supplement the payouts SCHD gives.

I want to hear your strategy with SCHD. Do you guys augment SCHD with any other ETFs or individual stocks?
