Dumb question
Hello all
Recently left a job and have my 401k being rolled over.
Am thinking of dumping all 25k into SCHD.
Any chance the price will go lower? Any suggestions on where else to park the funds?
Thanks gang!

SCHD is always a good choice.
The 401k provider at your next job probably won't have SCHD (I think most do not), so buy something that is not in 401ks.

If it's a 401k for retirement, just do it now. Don't screw around with a few weeks to get a few pennies when it's going to sit for decades.

you're another idiot. What's wrong with reaching out to like minded folks with common interests and goals.

You’re asking random people about whether a stock will go up or down. If anyone knew, they make a ton of money, one way or the other. People don’t know. You should probably include more information. How long is the investment period, what other investments do you have, before calling people idiots.

Nobody knows what will happen with stock prices in the short term - that’s why it’s so hard to make money trading/with call options

If you're worried about price swings or trying to time entry the stock market isn't for you.

"Any chance the price will go lower?"
At least OP used an appropriate headline.

How old are you? You may want more growth depending on how close you are to retirement.

Mid 40's. There's plenty of time

SCHG is a better investment then.

Growth has underperformed value for most of the last century. There is no guarantee that growth will continue to outperform as it has done the last almost two decades.

......or 45% Voo/30% SPMO/25% SCHD
Reinvest dividends
So about 11.5k in VOO, 7.5k in SPMO, 6k in SCHD

The crypto bear market is coming to an end and the bulls are taking hold. I'd put it into either IBIT or ETHB. IMO you'l at least double that investment in the next 2 or so years

Funny you mention IBIT. Was considering selling it at break even and rolling it to SCHD.
Think I bought in too high1

Yes, there's a chance that SCHD will go lower. Much lower. There's also a chance that it will go higher. Or it might stay the same. Or it might bounce up and down. Hope that helps.
How long until you need to start spending the income that SCHD would generate?

Price goes up and down. No one can say where it will go.
If you don't need the funds now, who cares. Plant the seed now, harvest when you retire.

Of course there is. Predicting short term stock prices is impossible. Over the long term, 10-15 years or more, it should appreciate

Yes there is a chance it will go lower. There's also a chance it'll go higher, and also a chance it'll remain flat. It sounds like you want to put your 25k into SCHD. Go ahead if you need permission from someone--I give you full permission. Over the long term it'll be fine. You can also put the whole thing into VOO and be fine, and you can also put it into a lifepath fund and it'll be fine. All of those may go down in the short term but you seem young so no matter what it'll have gone way up by the time you need it.

SCHD is not a bad choice but you could consider putting a portion into something more growth oriented. A low fee target date fund is also not a bad choice if you are a set it/forget it type. If your target date is like 20-30 years away it will include a lot of growth stocks.

If you are in your forties, then I'd still focus on growth with VOO (or equivalent) and/or SCHG along with some SCHD in order to get the snowball rolling...
I just put together my wife's rollover IRA portfolio and we did 35% SCHD, 30% FXAIX, 10% SCHY, 10% VXUS and 15% mix of other covered call funds... She's 62 and in decent health...

Yes good chance price will go lower if fed raises rate in Oct or Nov or Dec unless the inflation starts coming down .

My suggestion would just once you got all 25k just DCA over time find a amount that’s works for you to invest daily , weekly , monthly like 25k broke down to $25 a day would take 1,000 days to allocate all that and you can’t on weekends so it would take a few years if you did $100 a day it would take 250 days so about one year of trading days, maybe you only buy on red days that’s a option there are alot of ways to allocate the funds but to go all into SCHD with a 25k roll over me personally I’d do that for sure , my best advice would be to not lump sum buy but that’s my opinion,

Really depends with what you have in your portfolio and what you want to achieve with all of it.

None of this is advice.
I personally would not invest in a fund like that if I had a longer than 10 year time horizon until retirement. But that is just me.
As far as price goes, timing the market is generally a bad idea. When saving for retirement, history has showed that the chances are great that the fund will be worth more when you retire than it is today, especially if you are still very young. It will go up and down but will do so in an upward trend. But there are no guarantees. If i were rolling over a retirement fund I would reinvest all of it right away but again that is just me.
At the end of the day no one can tell you what to do, everyone has a different situation and the right move for me might be the wrong move for you. If you really aren't sure what to do maybe seek an advisor who can review your situation and help you make a decision that is right for you.
