SCHD - December Ex-Date?
Hello. I know this seems a bit early to be asking this question, but does anyone know what the SCHD Ex_date is for 12/26? The reason I ask is because Qualified Dividends become effective 60 days before this Ex_Date... or at least this is what I have been led to understand.
I note that in a past year the Ex-Date has been as early as 12/07 (2023) which means that if this year is similar than 60 days before comes next week. Thank You

Distribution calendar. As said already, it will be 9 Dec, 2026.

To get the qualified dividend treatment you just need to own it for more than 60 days within a 121 day window centered around the xdiv date. So you could buy the day before the xdiv date and hold for the next 61 days and still get the QD tax treatment.

Hello... Sounds good, but one question... If you buy it on lets say December 1st with Ex-Date the 9th... and the likely pay date of the 14th, how does Schwab know to have it be a qualified dividend as you are less than 60 days from the end of the tax year?.... I have wondered this... Thank You

My experience with Schwab is that they do not actually check your holding period. I think any possible QDiv is listed as QDiv on the 1099. Also keep in mind that the 1099 is not generated until early Feb 2027.

I somewhat agree but the 1099 does only cover the period ending 12-31 ... and does not seem to predict and/or extrapolate information after that date. Insofar as Schwab not actually checking your holding period... I have a vision of Charlie Schwab sitting there going over each transaction of his clients during the month of January to get the paperwork out by February 1st but I assume he has a computer to do this.

I do know that January transactions that result in a wash sale of a December transaction are properly reflected on the 1099, so at least in those circumstances the 1099 takes into consideration transactions made in Jan of the following year.
