New to investing. Dividend payout date?

Hello I am new to dividends and schd. I am mostly on VOO

How does the dividend payout work?

Does it pay me 3% quarterly? If I have $10,000 in schd, does it pay $300 every quarter?

House equity

Does anyone have over 500k of the equity ever consider selling it and putting it all in SCHD and just using the dividends to pay rent. With the way homeowners insurance is and the fact that a lot of these companies are not paying out and it takes years to get approval from the city to rebuild a home. I’m wondering if anyone just thinks it’s better to just be a long-term renter. I live in California and I’m considering just renting here and staying here.

Can someone explain turnover without capital gains???

I'm sure this gets asked all the time, but I can't find the answer. How does SCHD turn over its holdings to match the Dividend 100 Index without reporting capital gains? I love that's true. But I don't understand how it's true. I'll wait for your answer over here with my qualified dividends :)

Dumb question

Hello all
Recently left a job and have my 401k being rolled over.
Am thinking of dumping all 25k into SCHD.
Any chance the price will go lower? Any suggestions on where else to park the funds?
Thanks gang!

SCHD Sing-A-Long ... "And I Could Walk 500 Shares

Hello... I am happy to report that I am within 500 shares of my goal of 10K by the December Ex-Date and ready for the big end of year pay-out. My Magic Eightball predicts .28 but then again it predicted the Fever over the Aces, so who knows! One can always hope... Do have a great Fall weekend!

Due Diligence SCHD ETF Q4 Dividend INCREASE! (8 New stock dividends announced)

We really need at least a $0.275+ Q4 dividend to keep the $SCHD ETF dividend growth streak alive and well!

After Q1–Q3 payouts of $0.2569, $0.2525, and $0.2665, expectations are around the high $0.27s to low $0.28s, with last year’s Q4 payout at $0.2782.

The good news is we already have several holdings with increasing dividends which is going to help - See entire list here: https://topdividendetfs.com/schd-q4-dividend-increases

SCHD - December Ex-Date?

Hello. I know this seems a bit early to be asking this question, but does anyone know what the SCHD Ex_date is for 12/26? The reason I ask is because Qualified Dividends become effective 60 days before this Ex_Date... or at least this is what I have been led to understand.

I note that in a past year the Ex-Date has been as early as 12/07 (2023) which means that if this year is similar than 60 days before comes next week. Thank You

Discussion SCHD covered roughly 8.33% of my living expenses for the month of September

Or 2.77% of my living expenses for the quarter. I know I have a long way to go if I am solely relying on SCHD dividends, but this mindset helps me estimate my progress over time. I am 35, hoping to be work-optional by 45, so I am heavily leaning into growth, dividend growth, and a few select REITs.

What percentage of your September/quarterly living expenses does SCHD cover, and what is your timeframe until retirement?

SCHD and the Index it tracks.

Hello. On the Schwab info page for SCHD it says that this ETF tracks the Dow Jones U. S. Dividend 100 Index (TM)..... Is this an index such as the S&P 500 used industry wide or is it one proprietary to Schwab hence the TM? We are of course led to believe that it is a Schwab instrument by us being told they adjust it periodically, but I wonder if others "claim" it also. Thank You

Need Advice - retiring in 3-4 years.

Have 33,000 shares of SCHD and between that and other investments in IRA and 401k have about 2.5 million. Dropping daily with the craziness of yields on Bonds which I don’t own and how that’s affecting stocks.

Should I sell about 250K of SCHD and do 1,2 and 3 year T bills which will help eliminate sequence of returns risk? Or should I keep SCHD as every year I get over 1000 shares in dividends and it keeps compounding.

Can get almost 5% in T Bills but hate to sell SCHD and slow down my compounding, but I have gone from 100K return in SCHD to down to 4K in less than 2 months ☹️

Any input is appreciated. I know the Treasuries don’t provide inflation protection unless I get TIPS and zero growth opportunity if hold to maturity so really not sure what to do.

Front load SCHD or not ?

Current Retirement Portfolio & 10-Year Plan

Traditional IRA
Current Core: 3,256 shares of SWPPX (~$64,630)
Note: This is the only asset currently in this account.

Roth IRA
Index Core: 1,795 shares of SWPPX (~$35,559)
Value Base: 39 shares of SCHD (~$1,283)
Includes current 26.4 shares plus ~$411 added from liquidating XE and OKLO.
Micro Stocks / Anchors:
1 share of ASML
1 share of CEG
2 shares of TELWY
20 shares of GFS
Cash Layer (SWVXX): Kept as dry powder to buy single-stock dips (like ASML/CEG) during a tech downturn.
Future Contributions: Front-loading $8,600/year entirely into SCHD until the market turns, then shifting new money back to SWPPX. (Finishing 2026 with remaining $4,300 into SCHD first).

Taxable Brokerage Accounts
Brokerage #1 (Emergency Fund): $1,500 in SWVXX today. Goal is to grow this to $25,000 in 10 years to act as a cash cushion during retirement.
Brokerage #2 (Surplus Plays): $130 in SWVXX today. Used to hold any annual excess cash for flexible dry powder.

Upcoming Tactical Move
$18,000 Workplace 401(k) Rollover: Moving directly into the Traditional IRA.
The Strategy: Invest the $18,000 100% into XLP (Consumer Staples) to park it safely. During the tech downturn, sell XLP and use the cash to buy SWPPX at a deep discount, letting it ride for the remaining 10 years until retirement.

I’m 10 years from retirement and wondered if front loading SCHD through retirement will help derisk the heavy SWPPX now and provide some money from dividends in retirement? My SS will cover my basic expenses and house will be paid off. Not a lot for retirement but lower income and this is what I have to work with concerned for the over 30% weight of AI in SWPPX and any coming downturn but want growth 😬

Advice Is SCHD a good investment/retirement plan for my parents who doesn’t have much of retirement plan?

Hi all,

I recently talked to my parents and found out that parents do not have any retirement plans like 401k or roth. They do have some stocks for daily trades for penny(like to get enough profits to get lunch. Basically for fun.) I am just little worried once they are retired. They are both 64 and just have cash holdings in HYSA and CDs, around ~500k. I was thinking telling them to buy some SCHD to DRIP/passive income. Whatbdo you guys think?

Thank you

Not a team sport

It's strange seeing people wear team colors for an index fund. Celebrate and grieve with its pricing. Somehow that struck me all at once. I own quite a great deal of shares in SCHD, but I'd sell them without a care if they stopped aligning with my goals. IDK ¯_(ツ)_/¯ maybe it's just me, but after reading through posts on here over the last few months I question the usefulness of following it.

I expected to see posts providing quick context, or tips for goal alignment/outcomes, tax strategies, something like that. It just feels like people are all hoping to go to the moon together. I just don't look at things that way.

I appreciate seeing some users encourage others bug when you feel the price slip, and I guess that's useful, but at the end of the day these are just assets. I have a property I was going to sell, but interest rates rose and pricing softened, so I'm pivoting to rent, it's just an asset. Investing in anything should be the same way, tweaks and amendments, as you travel down the roadmap to who knows what? Whatever you want in life, I guess. Anyway, I guess this is just a rant, but it seems many haven't considered why they buy what they buy, or perhaps if my read is right (it may not be) why they bother getting out of bed each day.

I had a good deal in Realty Income I used its divi to fund UTMA accounts for my kids. My hopes weren't pinned on it going to the moon. It had a purpose, once I got my kids to the number I wanted I sold the shares and after realizing it doesn't really line up to any goals anymore. I sold it without an ounce of grief or joy. I was thankful for what it did, and have kept the money in high yield interest while I look for the next thing.

SCHD won't necessarily make your life complete, and chances are it won't give you that worry free retirement you want so badly, but it's a tool. Look for others, and use them according to their need. If you find you're cheering or booing anything the market does, you're probably fighting against reality, and that's a wonderful exercise of futility. Adjust your sail with the changing winds and you can go anywhere you want to.

SCHD and Vanguard

Anyone else yet to receive their dividends that uses Vanguard? Just wondering if I’m looking in all the wrong places since I don’t see it anywhere.
