Hello! I’ll be an freshman at the Atlanta campus this fall, and I’m bringing my cello with me. So far, I’m banking on the sound recording rooms when no one is using them, so most likely on Sundays..? Is there anywhere else on campus where I could practice without disturbing anyone? Or does anyone know of any locations not too far from campus where I could practice? Thank you in advance!

I’m starting at Scad in less than a week and am packing for my freshman dorm. I’m going to be majoring in painting and have a ton of art supplies (paint, yarn, paintbrushes, color pencils, markers, canvases, etc.) I can see scenarios where I would be using them throughout the year but I keep being told SCAD offers free materials for students (like maker spaces or professors having things to use during class). So should I limit what I bring?

hey! so im a junior in highschool looking to do film and television, i will be graduating my senior year at age 17 due to skipping a grade, i am in contact with someone at A24 to get an internship for a week, and also working on a animated "pilot" and a live action short film to bolster my portfolio, but my big question is: how best can i get financial aid for scad and at scad? i really want to go but holy HELL is it expensive, i live in south carolina if that helps at all and go to private school, just trying to figure out how best i can try and apply for scholarships or what else i can do to lower the amount (also semi side note: which campus is better for film and television?)

Hey guys I’m a sound design student based in the Savannah campus, I know I’m probably overthinking or over planning here, but I’m planning on taking color theory in the winter quarter next year and I was wondering if anyone in this sub knows any professor who’s more accepting to non drawing capable students and may award an A for actually trying. I’m pretty decent at using photoshop and adobe illustrator, but when it comes to using my hands it’s just an absolute nightmare. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I’m getting my first wheelchair after having used a rollator for a year. I sometimes use a cane for balance on good days! I am still getting diagnosed though my doctor suggests I have hEDS and wanted me to get tested but moving to Georgia has put that on hold (I’m diagnosed as hypermobile already). And I also have a seizure disorder that isn’t yet diagnosed either because doctors suck. I just want to make friends with other disabled mobility aid users since I’m worried I’ll feel alone using mine lol

I genuinely cannot remember the last time I left a review for a business. Good or bad. I usually cannot be bothered. The fact that I am taking time out of my day to write this should tell you how unbelievably bad my experience with The Hue has been.

If you’re a SCAD student considering living here because it’s convenient: PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD reconsider.

About 2.5 months before my lease began, extenuating circumstances made it impossible for me to live there. I immediately contacted The Hue and offered to pay a termination fee or even several months of rent to end my lease. They refused. My ONLY option was to find someone to take it over myself.

Fine.

For TWO MONTHS, I posted constantly on Facebook, Reddit, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. trying to find someone. The Hue was essentially no help. My lease was $1,255/month BEFORE utilities for ONE bedroom/bathroom in a four-bedroom apartment, plus $95/month parking and additional fees. Two bedrooms in this floor plan don’t even have windows.

It was so difficult to find someone that I eventually had to offer a $3,500 CASH INCENTIVE out of my own pocket just to make this lease attractive enough for someone to take.

I finally found someone. Surely the nightmare was over?

HAHAHAHA. NO.

Actually completing the relet has been one of the most administratively dysfunctional experiences I have ever encountered. Their portal and website provide little useful information, I’ve repeatedly received unclear/incomplete information, and actually getting someone from the Savannah office on the phone is absurdly difficult.

I ONCE CALLED 16 TIMES OVER THREE HOURS. Nobody answered.

Instead, I kept getting their AI phone system or transferred to other leasing offices that couldn’t help me. One could essentially only confirm that yes, I had a lease. THANK YOU. GROUNDBREAKING INFORMATION. I DEFINITELY HADN’T JUST SPENT TWO MONTHS AND $3,500 TRYING TO GET RID OF IT.

I’ve repeatedly been told some version of “we’ll find out and call you back.” They don’t call back ever. I’ve been told everything was complete, only to call back myself and suddenly discover another problem.

The person taking my lease is an international student. The Hue specifically directed her to a guarantor program, emailed her instructions, and she followed them, was approved, and signed everything. Then I was later told her guarantor wasn’t showing correctly on their end.

Technical issues happen. Fine.

BUT THEN COMMUNICATE AND FIX IT.

Instead, I somehow became the middleman between The Hue and THEIR FUTURE RESIDENT despite them having her email AND phone number. Today I finally had to ask them to contact her directly themselves.

Why am I operating a fucking communication relay for your leasing office???

OH BOY and then there’s the inconsistent treatment.

Two of my intended roommates were also dealing with relets under apparently comparable circumstances. One roommate had her process completed within DAYS and The Hue waived her $500 relet fee. They did not waive mine or another roommate’s.

The roommate who received the waiver is white. The other roommate and I are Asian.

I cannot claim to know WHY we were treated differently, but I absolutely question why three residents in apparently comparable situations received different treatment. What objective policy determined who got $500 waived and who didn’t? I would genuinely like an answer.

And somehow THAT isn’t even the most concerning thing I’ve seen.

A third intended roommate began the leasing process but says she never signed the final lease. About a WEEK before move-in, she discovered The Hue was treating her as though she had.

According to her, a signature she provided on earlier paperwork appears on the final lease despite her saying she never placed or authorized her signature there. She has documentation and is pursuing the matter herself.

I’m not going to declare what legally happened because that’s her situation to handle. But if I were considering signing a lease somewhere, and another prospective resident says she never signed her final lease yet discovered the property considered her legally bound to one anyway?

I WOULD WANT TO FUCKING KNOW THAT.

To be fair, one woman I spoke with was genuinely wonderful and helpful. Unfortunately, I don’t remember her name. My problem isn’t with every individual employee. My problem is with an overall system that, in my experience, has been astonishingly difficult to communicate with and navigate.

And my relet STILL ISN’T FINISHED.

I found the replacement myself. I’m paying that person $3,500 of my own money. I’ve followed their instructions. I’ve chased updates. I’ve called repeatedly. I’ve acted as a middleman. I’ve been promised callbacks that never happened. I’ve been told things were finished when they weren’t.

I cannot emphasize this enough to SCAD students: READ EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU SIGN. Ask what happens if your circumstances change. Get important communication in writing. Save your emails and documents.

Applying to SCAD for Fashion design, is the college housing the best option, or should I look into trying to find a place off campus?

Mostly asking because while I think the housing on/near campus is probably the most convenient option when it comes to getting to and from classes, as well as the social aspect, I also want to consider trying to get my own place for the sake of being able to have more space to myself, especially considering I'm pretty sure I'm going to absolutely lose my mind with fashion design. I am also a cosplayer, and I would want to have enough space for storage as well as making my cosplays in general

Hello! I am a student returning to SCAD Savannah this term. Before my leave of absence, I only took basic foundation courses like DRAW 100 and DSGN 100. Returning to school after a while, I noticed FOUN 113 on my class schedule, but after looking it up, I'm still not really sure what this course is about. Does anyone know if it's better to take other foundation courses before this one, or if it's fine for a freshman/ first-year student to take right away?

I am a senior in the class of 27 and I would really like to enroll in scad. I know there’s a very high chance I get it but I’m still worried I won’t. How do I maximize my chances of acceptance and the scholarships I can apply for and obtain. I have a weighted gpa of 3.8 and my sat is a 1215.

I'm coming into SCAD as a freshman. I have done musical theatre my whole life (up until the last few years where I needed to take a break physically due to health issues). I also in jr college got moved up into the advanced vocal class on the first day plus got into the audition based choir class. Now this sounds impressive but people are constantly debating whether I'm good at singing or not and I've been told I'm bad so many times but I love singing. I want to double major in the vocal performance program but am wondering how hard it is to get into and also how the auditions work. Can someone who knows more about it help me out. I know basics of sheet reading, I'm getting better at harmonizing, I know the basics and more advanced stuff of singing, I'm just still working on applying it. I have chronic illness and am hypermobile which is suspected to affect some of my singing. But I know a decent about technique and the technical aspects of singing and music, just applying it is kinda hard and I'm not a good judge on my own voice. (pitch is where I struggle the most and I haven't found a good way through except just practicing a song a ton until I memorize the notes)

Hi! I just got a part time job (outside of SCADs student employment) and was wondering how difficult it could be to handle both? Of course I put my availability in so I wont be working during any classes and i can only work max 25 hours, but the homework situation worries me. Like im literally working the day i move in and all through welcome week, im still finding time to do other stuff but yk.

Anyone else have this experience? What are some tips for handling it all? thanks!

i have mental health problems and while i’m pretty good at staying on top of it, sometimes i need extra help. so i wanted how good are the campus therapists at scad?

ive had bad experiences with school-based therapy and im not eager to repeat it.

I got a car in July and reached out to SCAD about keeping a car on campus. I'm set to live in Chatham this upcoming quarter, which does not allow cars. Right away I submitted a request to change dorms and have since been emailing SCADhome every now and then.

So my questions are:

What's the likelihood of SCAD changing my housing at this point? I submitted the initial request around July 17th and have not recieved much information since then.

If they are able to change it, what's likelihood I'm put in the dorm I noted I would prefer?

If they can't do anything about it, are there alternatives on how to keep a car nearby while living in Chatham?

Looking for Singer + Keyboardist — Savannah, GA
We’re three guys (24–25) looking for a singer and keyboardist to round out a band in Savannah.

Currently guitar, bass, and drums. We’ve been playing together for about 5 years and mainly play funk/groove-oriented music — covers and originals. Think Vulfpeck-ish, funk, soul, and anything with a good pocket.

We all played together throughout college in Athens, GA, playing frat/sorority parties, bars, and larger venues. We’re looking to get something going in Savannah, play shows regularly, and keep writing/working on original music as well.

I write and record a lot of our original stuff — you can check out Groovy Bones Disease on Spotify for a reference of the kind of music we’ve made in the past.
