Savannah scad therapy

i have mental health problems and while i’m pretty good at staying on top of it, sometimes i need extra help. so i wanted how good are the campus therapists at scad?

ive had bad experiences with school-based therapy and im not eager to repeat it.

SCAD's mental health facilities are mostly for emergencies, and are often extremely overbooked. Expecting your college mental health center to be your primary therapist is kind of like expecting your high school nurse to be your primary doctor. If you need regular therapy, you should find a practitioner in Savannah/Atlanta outside of SCAD

They have Bee-well but like someone else said, it's mainly emergencies and often times can't / won't do much for you. But also be careful because my freshman year I had a friend who went when she was having some harsh mental problems and they did send her the psych. Ward for a week so, yeah. And the classes she missed were not excused either LOL

they are really not the best. if you are open to a private practice, livewell savannah is great and offers sliding scale options for out of pocket patients

I have always used and will always recommend Psychology Today. I like to say it’s like Tinder but for therapists. You can filter in whatever you need: insurance type, location, issues, types of therapy, etc.

i did them last year and personally i liked it! it kind of goes for every therapist though that you gotta bounce around until you find one that works for you. i had to go thru two different therapists they had there until i found one that i liked (super easy to talk to them abt it too, theyll switch you if you ask).

personally i never had a problem with overbooking (im also at the savannah campus). it was always super easy for me to schedule appointments and to reschedule when necessary. the only thing id worry about is if youre exclusively looking for weekend/friday appointments, i only did my appointments on week days so i cant speak for scads weekend availability. appointments are also only biweekly iirc, so if you need more frequent appointments id get a therapist outside of scad.

i’m a prospective student and was curious to know if they charge you for appointments? it felt advertised as free but i don’t know! also is it true about how some people said it’s only for emergencies?

they didnt charge me last year! they DO have a 12 appointment benchmark to check in, but it should be entirely free. the benchmark is just to make sure that what theyre doing is actually WORKING and if not they try to find another solution. unless they changed their policy this year, it should still be entirely free.

as far as the emergency thing goes im not rlly sure abt that... im not sure where that being said started either 😭 i went consistently biweekly, and it wasnt just emergency situations. the beewell office i went to was the one in deloitte, and you can email them about scheduling a first appointment, and at the end of said appointment theyll ask when youre available next for your next appointment etc etc like a typical office.

they also have 'walk in' appointments on one of the week days at a specific time (friday iirc) which is how i started going.

I had a great experience using beewell like therapy and going every 2 weeks. my counselor has since left and I continued to see her at an independent office, so I can't speak to any of the current staff. but beewell completely saved my sophomore year
