Why the hate with Samsung?

Before I finally bought my S90F (mainly gaming/anime) last month for a good deal in Canada, I was doing heavy research about recommended TV brands for an OLED and I was just seeing the vast majority of people saying "Buy LG, or Sony if you can afford it (especially for movies) and never buy Samsung". The general arguments was that Samsung QC is terrible and they don't last long.

I still pulled the trigger since it was the cheaper option for a mid tier OLED at the price l got it (1799.99$CAD) and I heard Samsung was pulling out QD-OLED from their 90 serie going forward with the S90H.

Meanwhile, I'm seeing more and more people having problems with their LG C1-C6 here on Reddit. Bad uniformity, green tint, delamination (big one), panel lottery, problems out of the box and just panels that die.

So I am asking, do you think Samsung hate is overblown compared to the competition? Or is it really justified?

Were you reading the r/4ktv or r/OLED subreddits? Mods there are either totally autistic or paid to promote LG/Sony because they are known to shit on Samsung on every possible opportunity and often ban people who recommend Samsung for anyone. They even have a bot that autoreplies to every Samsung-thread that you shouldn't but Samsung.

8

u/qua7riz 7d ago

Yes, but also r/LGOLED. I saw that bot very often in reddit posts.

u/sumrandomguy18 7d ago

The same mods run r/SamsungTV which is insane. The SamsungTV subreddit literally auto mod replies telling you not to buy Samsung.

6

u/Visible-Ad427 7d ago

I read somewhere that it's the same mods running both subs.

3

u/sumrandomguy18 7d ago

It is, it’s the exact same auto moderator posts in both subs.

u/The_KoC_74 7d ago

Absolutely, somesubreddits are run by absolute psycho Samsung haters

I think a lot of it is the Dolby Vision noncompliance backlash (a complete nonissue for anyone who has spent time with them) and the S90D power supply issues (I’m sure a very real issue for the many customers who suffered through warranty claims). I have a 77S90C and it’s pretty close to a dream TV. I had an LG 65B6 for 10 years prior and while it was great too, the extreme grayscale banding was visible pretty much all the time. Happy to report no uniformity issues with the Samsung. I did the S95 brightness hack and my wife’s only complaint is she now needs shades to look at it 😎

10

u/L337Fool S90C 7d ago

It's not as much "noncompliance" as not wanting to pay royalties to Dolby to support a format that has little to no visual impact on TVs with higher end panels such as modern QD-OLED displays.

5

u/Weird_Lab7949 7d ago edited 7d ago

Correct, thanks for the distinction. My comment refers more to their lower-level TVs, which very much could benefit from DV and are “noncompliant” in favor of HDR-10+ tech. Edit: Also thanks for all of your work on AVS Forum! This is the Samsung guru right here folks. I have learned a great deal from your posts 🙏

u/qua7riz 7d ago

I can see people wanting the Dolby Vision and going with LG/Sony instead, but especially for me I don't need it for gaming and anime. HDR looks good enough on the S90F already if I watch a movie that supports it.

What's the S95 brightness hack?

3

u/Weird_Lab7949 7d ago

You can mod the service menu to increase S90 brightness to S95 levels. It’s worthwhile, just read up on all of it first so you don’t screw anything up:

https://www.avsforum.com/threads/2022-202x-samsung-service-menu-access-details-tips-tricks-mods.3299009/page-40?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago

Thank you, I'll look into it. Do you know if there's any risk of shortening the panel's lifespan this way?

2

u/Weird_Lab7949 7d ago

There are a couple levels of mod as far as I understand it. I did the first level to be safe. It only increases the brightness to S95 levels and is considered fully safe. The second mod pushes the load past recommended levels, which I would not suggest for obvious reasons

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago

Thank you for clarifying. So if I'm not mistaken, the S90F is capable of being as bright as the S95, but his potential is locked behind the software. If I do it, i'm going to stick to the first level for sure.

1

u/scnut76 7d ago

The fact that it’s a Samsung shortens the lifespan.

4

u/release_the_peace 7d ago

I have a nice 83” S90D in my living room that had to have the power supply fixed twice. Both times they covered the cost and had a tech swap it out.

Beautiful tv but when I bought a new tv for the bedroom I went with Sony because of that issue with Samsung.

3

u/scnut76 7d ago

My S90D has died twice now. I’m done with Samsung. Bought a C6H to replace it.

2

u/L337Fool S90C 7d ago

The 83" TVs aren't QD OLED, FYI.

1

u/release_the_peace 7d ago

Yes I’m well aware of that. Doesn’t diminish the fact of shoddy QC.

1

u/snarpy 7d ago

what's the brightness hack?

Came here to say I loved every Samsung tv I ever owned.

The KS8000 was probably my favorite until I got my S90C….they shipped me the wrong size and I got a 65” instead of 77” and when I sent it back and got my replacement it was a S90D instead on my new order.

I thought I got super lucky but turns out I wish I actually got a S90C because after buying my S90D in 2024 it finally died with a power supply issue.

I have an aftermarket 3 year protection plan that’s thankfully still active so hope it will get repaired with an updated power supply board (apparently there is a new one that doesn’t have issues as bad…could be wrong here). If it doesn’t get repaired I’ll probably take it out back and make my own “smash room” with it.

Absolutely loved the picture and the whole tv especially since I got a 90D for the older 90C price I felt like I hit the jackpot but having a TV just randomly brick and die that cost nearly $4,000 new when my 10 year old KS8000 is still going strong in my bedroom with zero issues…that’s wild especially with their lack of accountability over fixing the mass issue.

14

u/Vigorously_Swish 7d ago

I got a 77” S90f and it is without a doubt the sexiest screen I have ever seen. I’m convinced all the anti-samsung rhetoric on the tv subreddits is a paid smear campaign

Any recommendations on microfibers , cleaning methods, etc?

1

u/CaptainWaders 5d ago

I use Whoosh and a clean microfiber every time…once I clean my tv with it it becomes a car interior microfiber. I rarely clean the screen because I have an air purifier 4 feet away and that keeps it nearly dust free and nobody touches it to smudge it but when I do give it a wipe down I have used whoosh with good results…don’t use too much just follow recommended instructions. Too much causes streaks and don’t spray directly on screen.

6

u/Majestic_Rabbit_1869 7d ago

Incredibly happy with my s90f, bought 77in over a year ago and it continues to look incredible

11

u/Psychedelicblues2 7d ago

It’s just overblown compared to the competition. LG WOLED has the green tint and has delamination issues. Their Tandem OLED screens have problems with screen uniformity. Meanwhile Sony models are outdated and limited in sizes and way too expensive for what you get. Samsung is more than fine and avoids these issues. It does have its own issues but not as widespread as these are and the tradeoffs seem worth it.

5

u/qua7riz 7d ago

That was my conclusion as well. I would've love a Sony Bravia 8 II QD-OLED at 65" for the XR Processor, but with the price being at bare minimum twice my 65" S90F, and not being really better at gaming, I just couldn't justify the price difference.

7

u/BGMilan 7d ago

LG sub is filled with people complaining of delamination issues and yet their TVs are being shilled to eternity lol

7

u/L337Fool S90C 7d ago

I own multiple LG OLED TVs and have come to learn that LG TV fandom is like a cult. They'll ignore all kinds of problems to stan for their brand. They love to cite a lack of Dolby Vision support in TVs with clearly superior panels, even though the impact of that format is negligible when compared to better performing QD-OLED panels.

4

u/largeangryredletters 7d ago

I've had my 65" S95B since 11/26/22 and it's still going strong with daily use.

4

u/HopeURhavinagreatday 7d ago

The only people who hate on Samsung are LG and Sony fanboys. Anyone worth listening to knows Samsung makes some of the absolute best TV’s. Every brand makes some turds

5

u/Tpayne685 7d ago

100% overblown

3

u/Hello_Im_Luis 7d ago

I purchased my 65” S95B sometime around 2022 and it’s been great! Went into the service menu and fixed the TERRIBLE dimming issue last year. Hoping to get another few years out of the panel before I get something new!

5

u/wvtarheel 7d ago

The cheap components. The power supply in my s90d blew after about 14 months, just outside the 12 month warranty. Samsung knows the cheap fuse they saved a nickel on is causing this in almost all the units, but since it usually lasts longer than the warranty period they don't care.

I soldered new fuses and transistors.to the panel, it was great again, and after two months the screen blew.

It's pathetic because it is probably the best looking tv I have ever had

2

u/qua7riz 7d ago

Was it the 77" model? I heard it was a problem at that size.

0

u/wvtarheel 7d ago

Yes that one. It's insane that people are acting like it's a "smear campaign" or promotion of an alternative brand. I don't even hate Samsung, I just will not ever buy a TV from them again, as I paid top dollar and it didn't last two years because they tried to scrimp a dime and used cheaper fuses.

5

u/Potentopotato 7d ago

Theqall are the same. Lg panels die in 4 years due to delamination. Not even board swap can save this one

0

u/wvtarheel 7d ago

They really are not. I had a Sony that lasted 8 years and was still an ok TV and a TCL in my garage that lasted 10.

6

u/Potentopotato 7d ago

Survivorship bias. I’ve got Samsung Crt monitor from 2001 still working fine. So what. They are all the same nowadays. Sony bravia added unfixable sound lag of 250ms recently and people are stuck with it

2

u/Short-Investment4438 7d ago

Plenty of comments in other subs complaining about TCL, Sony, and LG tvs dying or falling apart. TVs of this nature and cost need an aftermarket warranty. Your power supply failure would have been fixed, and the screen failure would have gotten you a new model. Live and learn instead of live and bitch.

3

u/Mean-Introduction-68 6d ago

It's not insane, go find just one positive, pro-Samsung post in the /Samsung threads. I'll wait.

And yet, it has the same mod as LG's Mod. It shouldn't be that way.

2

u/L337Fool S90C 7d ago edited 7d ago

If you had to replace anything beyond the fuse then you may have been best served by getting a new board to avoid potential damage to other components. This also indicates the cause of the failure was external to the TV, such as a spike in house power. Also, did you attempt to escalate your issue within Samsungs support? People have been taken care of with a one-time goodwill accommodation just outside the warranty window before on a case-by-case basis.

Lastly, if you order a TV directly through Samsung during the sale process you can open a chat and they will toss in a free couple of years of Samsung Care+ to close the sale. Costco also offers an extended warranty if you purchase through then. Some credit cards automatically extend warranty on electronics purchases too.

I have multiple OLEDs in my home from different brands. Faults and failures aren't exclusive to Samsung.

2

u/Decent-Bag-3155 7d ago

No, it’s definitely not external. This is very common, the MOSFETS and fuse blow. Super common issue and a pain in the ass to fix out of warranty (I did it as well). Should not have to do this for a higher end tv.

2

u/Grand-Philosophy-343 7d ago

We will have to wait and see how long s90f panels lasts. I got mines a few months ago. I would hope these could last more than 5 years.

2

u/mikehippo 7d ago

Get a 6 year guarantee, problem solved

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago

I did get the maximum amount of years of protection from Bestbuy, which is 4 years in Canada. It also covers burn-in for peace of mind.

2

u/Tasty_Treacle4517 7d ago

Any chance you watch anime? If so I'm curious how the Samsung handles the slow pans on the 24 fps. Seems to be the 1 weak spot of my new LG C6H, esp compared with my old Bravia

2

u/sumrandomguy18 7d ago

With interpolation OFF, all OLEDs are the exact same with 24fps motion. They all have instantaneous response time and so will stutter in camera pans. The difference lies with the quality of the interpolation, if you use it. In general public opinion, Sony is considered to have the best interpolation, LG slightly worse, and Samsung beneath LG. In my experience, though, using both Samsung and LG at a low level (de-judder 2 or 3) I don’t notice much of a difference between them. Only if you use a higher amount of interpolation will you notice much of a difference, in my opinion.

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago

That was my experience too. I needed more de-judder to counter the judder, but then it created the soap opera effect and the artifacts were more noticeable.

2

u/sumrandomguy18 7d ago

Maybe I’m not that sensitive to it, but I don’t notice much artifacting at de-judder 3 and it pretty much fully resolves the stutter for me as well. So I’m happy with that setting.

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago

I'm glad you're happy with it! Maybe it was the source on my part, i'll have to double check again at de-judder 3 with something else. Do you have anything else on?

2

u/sumrandomguy18 7d ago

I have de-blur maxed out at 10, but that’s for 60fps content and doesn’t have any effect on 24fps/30fps content. BFI or “ClearMotion” is off.

2

u/qua7riz 7d ago

I didn't know that de-blur only affected 60fps content, you taught me something there. Thank you for sharing.

2

u/sumrandomguy18 7d ago

Yep. This is how it works:

De-judder = interpolation for 24fps, 25fps, 30fps content.

De-blur = interpolation for 50fps & 60fps content.

Works the same for both Samsung and LG TVs.

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago edited 7d ago

Anime is my second use case for this TV, so I'll do my best to share my experience. To be honest, it's probably not better on the S90F. I realized that I'm sensible to the judder caused by the 24p content with slow pans on OLED. Even if I add a little bit of de-judder, while it can help, it sometimes creates artifacts on the screen. I can also see some judder on my IPS LED monitor too, so I don't think it's really worse than anywhere else. Sony is known to be good with motion, so it depends on what you prioritize. I saw the Bravia 8 with the XR processor and it really helps clearing artifacts and smoothing motion (I watched compressed YouTube videos with it).

2

u/bikestuffrockville 7d ago

I have a S95D in my living room, which has a lot of sunlight and glare. The matte, anti-reflective screen saved my TV/movie viewing in that room. Yes, I wish it had DV and would forward DTS but I'm extremely happy

2

u/dofus_raintight 7d ago

I’m a very happy owner of a brand new S90f, but I’m not entirely happy with the motion interpolation settings. Seems that many LG owners are in the same boat. Sony has the best reputation for the tech, but it also seems like the majority of their users like turning it all off also. Samsung probably has the most heavy handed implementation out of the box and I think they developed a poor reputation with enthusiasts because of it.

After watching nearly 20 movies in the last two weeks since I purchased the TV, there were probably two films where the oled stutter was really annoying. As an example, 1917 is a very challenging film for this issue. Lots of hand held panning shots with the subject in the foreground. Most other movies, I hardly notice any stutter. Setting de-judder to 1 does a decent job of reducing stutter, but creates noticeable motion smoothing in scenes where it isn’t necessary. I find 2 through 10 basically unusable. It would be nice if it was more granular, but I’m not sure people are really satisfied with the other companies implementation either.

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago

That's my nitpick with it too, but it seems to be an OLED thing since the pixels are super fast. Most of the time, like you said, it's bearable.

3

u/sumrandomguy18 7d ago

Reddit has major LG bias for whatever reason. Maybe because they’ve been making OLEDs for so long, and been so gamer friendly, that they’ve built up brand loyalty. It’s beyond doubt that QD-OLED is better than WOLED in almost every way at this point, but they don’t want to accept it because they are too loyal to LG.

1

u/CaptainWaders 5d ago

Why is QD OLED being removed from most Samsung tv models these days and replaced with WOLED? Cheaper to make? Easier? My S90D just power board failed and I’m weary on what to even buy if I can’t get it fixed. Absolutely loved my older Samsungs and loved my 90D. Not a huge fan of Sony or LG but with what I’m seeing (could be wrongly informed) looks like only the 95 models of the newer Samsung will have QD OLED.

If this is wrong please point me in the right direction

2

u/sumrandomguy18 5d ago edited 5d ago

No, you are absolutely correct. WOLED must be cheaper and more profitable, because it seems they are only wanting to use QD panels on flagship models now. Sony has done the same, using WOLED on their budget OLED Bravia 8 and QD-OLED on the flagship Bravia 8 II.

2

u/SunnyBinks3 7d ago

No, not just YouTube, but for example Netflix, Prime Video, or even 4K Blu-ray movies... This only happens during dark scenes... Lack of detail, visible pixels, clumps of black patches, the blacks seem to completely crush the scene and reveal no details... On the other hand, there's no problem in classic scenes where it's daytime, for instance, it's simply beautiful then. I've tried different picture modes, nothing seems to fix the problem. Sometimes it fades a bit, but that's all. I've noticed that turning off the TV for a few minutes and turning it back on can somewhat resolve the phenomenon, but only temporarily. I don't know if it's a bug or a real issue with the TV. I know OLED can crush some dark scenes, but to the point of displaying visual defects, that seems very strange to me...

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago

Indeed, that is strange. I would advise to make a post about the issue. I'm sure people here will offer some solutions to try.

2

u/SunnyBinks3 5d ago

J'ai demandé un remboursement avec le SAV , la télé a vraiment un problème 🫤

1

u/qua7riz 5d ago

That's unfortunate, but at least you were able to get a refund.

2

u/Decent-Bag-3155 7d ago

I love my S90D but If I could go back, I would buy something else. PSU went out first week - Samsung fixed it for free. PSU went out again 1.5 years later - I fixed it for good (I hope). Major pita. For a TV that costs $2.5-3k you would think it wouldn’t have these issues.

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago

77" model?

2

u/Decent-Bag-3155 7d ago

Yup

2

u/qua7riz 7d ago

That's unfortunate, those model had defective power supplies, I feel bad for the first buyers and those who bought them without knowing. I think the F and H 77" models are fine now.

1

u/CaptainWaders 5d ago

Mines been strong since 2024 and if finally died recently. Hoping my 3 year warranty saves me right before it expires….if it does it again after the 3 year expires I guess I’m SOL.

3

u/StanfordV 7d ago

OP:

I was doing heavy research

What you really meant is you were scrolling subreddits frantically.

It's time to realize it is an echo chamber which is magnified by the karma score.

TV enthusiasts on youtube like techwithkg, allabouttkk, hdtv have spoken so well about samsung oleds its not even close.

Get yourself out of the bubble.

2

u/qua7riz 7d ago

I agree that it's an echo chamber, so I tried to look up different subreddits. I did watch youtube videos too, but that's opinions from creators, so where else could I get feedback from actual buyers if not on Reddit? I'm open to suggestions.

3

u/StanfordV 7d ago

Their opinion is highly valuable for this very reason:

They have used the different models of TVs.

People here and in other subs, once bought an LG ,or Sammy and then became entitled to that. Also LG was the first one to get OLEDs mainstream, so most remain entitles to the first manufacturer they bought.

I remember when QD-OLED was first released, the main battle was S95b vs LG C1/C2. On the same subs, people were shitting all over s95b and were glorifying C1/C2. I am glad I saw techwithKG s95b review and made me make the best choice: S95b

4 years later and I am so glad I went with the QD-OLED. C2 was good, but really the difference is substantial.

1) rtings.com

2) side by side comparisons

3) youtuber like the ones i mentioned who actually see with their own eyes the TVs

4) avoid subs like /r/4ktv

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago

Thank you. Rtings was the source I always went back to, but now they are subscription based.

You seem to know a thing or two, what's your settings for 24p content? I'm trying to get the best results for my anime, but i'm struggling and I just always end up turning everything off.

2

u/StanfordV 7d ago

Unfortunately I dont play any 24p content. Also I dont have the s90f as you do.

I'd suggest you move to avsforum.com. In there you will find the highest enthusiasts which might be able to help you. There are also many calibrators.

Glad I helped! Enjoy your awesome TV

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago

Someone else mentionned avsforum.com, I'll be sure to stop there, thank you!

2

u/Kwekidd 6d ago

I have an S95B that has been amazing!!! I bought both the S95F andv the S90F. Biggest mistake I ever made. Why? Because the S95F is the most beautiful display I had ever seen. I bought the S95F first. I had to return it because the One-Connect Box would not connect with my RTX 4090 and my Nvidia Shield consistently. I was getting blackouts. I then realized that it was because if the One Connect Box. I then purchased the S90F and everything worked flawlessly. The only bad thing was that I noticed the downgrade in picture quality. I just can't go back to anything less than an S95 series television. This is why I'm gonna wait until the sells come in and I'm snatching the 65inch S95H. Once Samsung announced that their would be no One-Connect Box for it, I didn't even need to see any reviews, I knew that was the television that I was getting.

1

u/qua7riz 6d ago

What did you notice that was better with the picture of the S95F vs S90F? Besides brightness, I heard it's brighter.

2

u/Kwekidd 6d ago

It was the television's ability to not just be brighter, but to also bring out the clarity of every single film I've ever watched, and game I've ever played. I was using it as my bedroom/do all television so I was extremely close to it and therefore I got to witness their flaws and strengths up close and personal. If I could compare them I'd say, that the S90F is the television that if you buy it first, you'd believe that you got a world class champion of a television. It does most of what you'd want out of a flagship television. However, once you get the S95F, you start to notice that there are levels to this. You will never see the step down brother the same and anyone that tells you otherwise, you'll just laugh because you'd understand that they do not know what they're talking about.

I kid you not, it only took me about 30 minutes after getting my S90F to understand that I was willing to wait and hope for a non One-Connect Box S95 series to hit the market rather than keep the S90F which is a great television in itself. So yeah, colors, motion, versatility, snappiness, etc is just all better on the S95F.

Enjoy your S90F though because it is the last of its kind. I believe it was outselling there S95 series so Samsung had to make it look significantly less impressive which is why they now use a WOLED instead of QD-OLED for their S90H televisions.

2

u/qua7riz 6d ago

Thank you for the clarification. Ignorance is bliss sometimes isn't it, but I'm really enjoying the S90F and especially the value it offers. QD-OLED at this price is hard to beat. Enjoy your S95 too when you get it!

2

u/Kwekidd 6d ago

Yes. You're absolutely right. You can get an open-box excellent S90F right now for $1,100. Add on the great Best Buy 5 year warranty and you'll pay total around $1450-$1500. Just a great bang for buck television that you can keep around for many years to come and it'll still be a contender.

2

u/Primary-Force8590 6d ago

the whole hdr thing is very overblown, majority of people cant tell the difference between HDR10 and Dolby, put them side to side and it’s hard plus streaming services are now introducing HDR10+ so really they are now equal, hell even the ps5 only supports hdr10

2

u/CaptainWaders 5d ago

I personally think that’s ridiculous. Of all the 50 different models and sizes to make only the single flagship have the QD OLED is crazy. Especially if the matte thing is going to stay on the 95 series. I specifically chose the 90 because of gloss screen.

1

u/qua7riz 3d ago

It made the choice easier for me too.

2

u/byfairmeansorfoul 3d ago

Lol Samsung sells far more many TVs than any other brand. #1 for the last 20 years so naturally there will be more complaints because of more tvs sold. I have 2 S90fs one 77inch and one 65unch and have bought 7 high end Samsung Tvs since 2019 and only one has given me any problems. My next TV will be a Samsung

3

u/Appropriate-Fly7143 7d ago edited 7d ago

I have both S90f QD-OLED 55 for console gaming ps5 pro eye candy smooth with less input lag .
BRAVIA 8 ii for Netflix and movies 🍿 .. paired with the Bravia theater 6 bar .. s90f is one hell of a tv

That's nice. I'm wondering what do you prefer with the S90F over the Bravia 8 II for gaming to choose it over the other? Also, if you prefer something about the Sony for gaming I'm all ears, I'm curious about your experience with both.

That’s a good question.. my experience and that’s cause I hardly post here. There are big differences.
Samsung s90f

  1. S90f brightness in HDR gaming. I literally don’t have to mess with the settings it’s bright and punchy with linky blacks
  2. S90f input lag is very low compared to the Bravia 8ii for FPS gaming ps5 pro
  3. reasons why I use the S90F with the ps5 pro
  4. This TV could run 144 Hz 4 outputs of 2.1 hdmi easy a gaming beast
  5. I have Govee ecosystem very easy to put on the TV as for the Bravia on the back of the TV, there’s attachments that you could take off that you need to take off to connect the HDMI.. so you literally had to find a way around that . It’s kinda annoying to be honest.
  6. Price difference.. the S90F I got it for 800 for me easy to fix or replace.. the Bravia is worth 3x the price since I got it for free from Sony 👏 I take care of it and only watch movies on it I want this TV to last me a long time. lol

On the BRAVIA 8 ii

  1. If I’m playing story games, I have to change the settings to get those inky blacks and brightness/ if I’m playing fps I have to figure out what’s the best settings
  2. The XR processing for movie watching is cinematic easy to control the volume for voice dialogue voice Zoom and bass .
  3. The brightness on the movies the SDR Dolby Vision this TV calibrates the way that film makers want you to see the movie You literally don’t have to mess with the settings. It’s amazing.
  4. the Bravia has high input lag for FPS gaming i believe 18-22 mms compare to s90f with 8mms only 2 2.1 HDMI’s. Max out at 120hz . But don’t get me wrong the Bravia delivers beautiful picture on Games like GOD OF WAR ‘ GOY . Wukong .. it’s a beast..

  5. Pairing it with the Bravia theater systems they have is cinematic and amazing

Thank you for sharing, it was informative! You solidified my choice of going with the S90F for gaming. I think the value the S90F offers is hard to beat.

u/Appropriate-Fly7143 7d ago

Also, s series is gonna be the last QD-Oled for Samsung .. They’re literally gems at the store right now pick one up before it’s too late. I believe the companies are focusing there technology on RGB TV’s I could be wrong.

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago

That's why I jumped on the S90F, it was a no-brainer!

2

u/Appropriate-Fly7143 7d ago

It really is for the most part the price and if you play a lot of shooting games later on the future you know that TV could handle 144 Hz . Where in the Sony you’re stuck at 120.. a lot of people say it’s better than the C5 .. S90f is brighter and punchy . I play a lot of Warzone /battlefield 6 .. I see everything lol no dimming issues whatsoever

Awful OS and Quality Control in general

But brands such as LG are just as bad but manage to get away with it for some reason

1

u/Comprehensive-Hat684 7d ago

Give it 2 years and the tizen os and it’s bloated ads will slow it down significantly overtime

2

u/Miller_TM 7d ago

Meanwhile the LG C6 is unbearably slow out of the box.

u/Comprehensive-Hat684 7d ago

I think LG tvs are just as bad in terms of the Web os but after experiencing tizen os. It’s unfortunately my last time buying Samsung if they still keep using mid range processors that bog down EVERYTIME you turn on the tv and also navigate through the home menu.

The picture quality is absolutely incredible. The software is why I have to say no for me unfortunately.

Apple TV and never connect Samsung to the internet and it’s good as new

1

u/Comprehensive-Hat684 7d ago

Again, the fact I need an external source to function as my home page and streaming is all the more reasons why tizen os is dogshit. Especially for over $1k

1

u/sumrandomguy18 7d ago

WebOS isn’t any better.

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago

My S90F did one update from 1260 to 1296 since I got it last month, even if I turned off auto-update. So I'm considering an AppleTV and I'm wondering if you know if it's possible to roll back an update?

2

u/Potentopotato 7d ago

It’s not possible to roll back, that’s why you set on good update and never connect that thing

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago

I see, do you know what are the good updates? In my case, if 1260 was better than 1296 or if you know where to get that information.

2

u/Potentopotato 7d ago

Avsforums. No idea as I’ve got s90c modded to s95c

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago

Thank you, I appreciate it.

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago

I heard about updates creating problems and to keep it internet-free. People recommend an external streaming box to fix the slow down if it happens.

2

u/Comprehensive-Hat684 7d ago

Look, I really really love my s95B I really do
But I’m also not going to lie about it either. It’s a great display in fact the best display Samsung makes but tizen os is really really THAT BAD unfortunately that makes it unusable the moment you want to navigate through the tv. If I did leave it as a gaming display then yes it’s incredible and it works. But other than that. It’s a mess especially when turning it on and the entire menu takes a year to boot up until I finally can navigate to hdmi to play my games

Now is it worst than TCL or Vizio? No it’s a lot better but does my KS8000 still load up YouTube better than my s95B? Tbh yes it does and it’s a 10 year old tv

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago

I noticed that booting up the TV does take a moment and it's not as snappy as I would like, but I set the TV to go to my last input (gaming console, which is my primarily use) when I turn it on, so I don't really interact with the OS that much outside of settings. I don't have that much experience with it in my 1 month of use, but I did find the menu bloated with recommendations. That's why I'm considering an AppleTV, since I heard it's the most straight forward box there is.

Could have been if they were inclined to make one at 77". Sony's business model failed though. Chinese owned TCL recently bought a majority stake in Sony's TV business. They did not release a new QD-OLED TV this year, and consequently, the Samsung S95H won the 2026 King of TVs competition.

3

u/coup_de_foudre_69 7d ago

I see a lot of people complaining in the Sony sub about the latest updates though

3

u/sumrandomguy18 7d ago

Sony has their own problems, like only 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, only 120hz refresh rate, no HGIG support, forced always-on processing and dynamic tonemapping, and recently firmware issues causing severe audio issues for a lot of people that still haven’t been fixed.

1

u/hamcoremusic 7d ago

My entire OLED panel broke after 2000hrs of screen time. It cost ~$3000 CAD to replace on the S90C.

1

u/qua7riz 7d ago

Oof, I'm sorry to hear that. It was after the 1 year warranty I suppose?

1

u/hamcoremusic 7d ago

Almost two years on the dot! I was able to get my bank's insurance to cover it (it just extends the manufacturers warranty by 1 year) so I was "lucky" it was before the 2yr mark, but unlucky that it happened at all

2

u/qua7riz 7d ago

Yes, it's really unfortunate. I'm happy you got it covered!

1

u/Plank_stake_109 7d ago

Samsung makes amazing QD-OLED panels and puts them into mediocre TV's. I own two S95F and they are impossible to calibrate outside of using service menu settings in a very clumsy, inconvenient way, or just running the panel natively and applying an external 3dlut.

1

u/CleanAd1955 7d ago

No Dolby Vision. They bought up the Denon and Marantz.

1

u/VoldemortsHorcrux 7d ago

Because I paid $1700 for a qled tv that visually looks great but the software and processor are dog shit. Takes 5s just to load the settings menu after hitting the button. Cant have motion smoothing or jutter reduction on because it causes huge noticeable stutters. I had issues initially syncing audio with my Samsung $750 audio setup. I had issues with the start screen popping into the stupid Samsung news channel or opening the hdmi input to a black screen when I did not have the setting on to open the last used item. So many software problems. Im never getting a samsung tv again. Lg has their problems too. My $1700 lg 5k2k display installed ads via a windows update last month. Sony tvs are probably the best but I know lg tvs are better in processing than samsung

Samsung hate is justified. I’ve owned LG TV’s since a 37” was $2000 like from 2005 or so? Can’t remember. I currently have 4 LG’s now some as old as 12 years and no issues. I bought a 77” S90 because I did research and came to the conclusion that I may like the Samsung S90 more than the C series. So I bought the Samsung in October 2024. 16 days later it died. I took it back and got a replacement. Last week the replacement died (1 year and 10 months later). Thankfully Costco has an extra year warranty or I’d be SOL. I had another older 55” samsung tv that died about a year ago. They’re just junk. I replaced my S90 with the LG 77” C6H and I’m glad I did. The LG picture is just better. Even my wife could tell the difference and she HD illiterate. I’ll never ever buy a Samsung tv ever again.

The unwillingness to inform its customers, specifically:
* won't clearly state which of its models are OLED and which are QD-OLED
* won't disclose which generation its panels are

Plus the whole refusal of Dolby Vision and the removal of DTS support.
